A note from the two of us! It is with much excitement and anticipation that we welcome you to the launch edition of Eco Brides Magazine, a bridal magazine dedicated to all things eco and sustainable! We are Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s only online guide to eco-chic weddings and are dedicated to providing information and inspiration relevant to like minded brides and grooms. We also felt it necessary to give eco wedding vendors a platform to share their wares! Both Fiona (Fo) and I (lea) are extremely proud of this issue and we are also very grateful to share this journey with you. Finding a second hand dress and having it transformed into a garment that fits both your body shape and your style is so popular these days. Stylist, Sophie Hart and tailors Look Smart Alterations gives us their ten tips on up cycling and turning someone’s unwanted pretties into your own gorgeous garb. 1. Don’t be afraid – If you haven’t worn a piece or it has sat at the back of the wardrobe for years, chances are you aren’t going to wear it out anytime soon. So take the plunge, have a play with Up cycling and end up with something you love. 2.

Start Small – If it’s your first go at Up cycling keep it simple. Why not try shortening a maxi or updating buttons?

Know your limitations. Major alterations to garments should always be left to the professionals find your local tailor and let them do what they do best.

Ask advice, your tailor may have a brilliant idea you may never have considered.

Do Up cycle signature pieces – it’s hard to throw out your formal dress or first corporate suit, so don’t. Instead, look at what’s different about what’s in now, and make those alterations to your sentimental pieces. It’s cheaper than buying expensive, new versions and means you can spend more on cute accessories.

Once you’ve taken the first step into Up cycling, look in your wardrobe to see what else can be tailored and altered – it’s amazing what a few stitches can do to the look of an entire outfit.

A great eco friendly way to style your wedding is to hire your items, There are plenty of wedding stylists that hire out vintage and pre loved items. This means you are reusing and not having to find a place for everything afterward! There are no rules when it comes to styling your wedding. just make sure it is a reflection of the both of you.

Looking for something easy and eco to DIY for your wedding or event? Judi from Little Gray Station shows you how to make these gorgeous fabric chandeliers from vintage fabric for under $30!

Materials Required: • Vintage fabric in your chosen colours. Look around your house or at your second hand stores • Scissors • Embroidery hoops • Ruler • Pencil Cost for this project is approximately $30.00 to make three hanging fabric chandeliers. BARGAIN!

Start by laying out all of your required materials on a flat and clean surface: fabric, ruler, pencil, embroidery hoop and scissors. Lay your first piece of fabric out flat, measure 3cm strips apart by pencilling them on to the fabric.

Cut each strip neatly and put aside in a pile. Continue this process until all your strips are cut up. If your fabric is easy to tear, simply cut a small incision in the fabric and tear the fabric upwards (this will save a lot of time); however the result is slightly more rustic.

Once all of your fabric strips are cut, take your embroidery ring and separate the two rings (you will only require one ring). Start by tying one piece of fabric in a neat knot around the ring; continue this with each of your chosen fabric colours/patterns until there is no more room left on the ring. It is ok if your fabric is different length, it adds to the character of your DIY project.

To hang your fabric chandelier, select four pieces of fabric already tied to the ring and bring them together at the top and tie them in all together. Use these four pieces you have tied together to tie your fabric chandelier to your designated spot.

As you can see these three hanging fabric chandeliers were a perfect backdrop at a wedding ceremony!

This is a very simple but effective way to create your own string lantern which can be used as a very impressive hanging display or placed on your tables as a centerpiece.

They are a little fiddly and do require time for drying,but get your bridesmaids together for a little crafty working bee and you will have a very inexpensive but completely enchanting decoration for your special day.

Once the balloons are blown up to the size that you require (for a hanging display, blow them up to different sizes), hang them somewhere so you are able to use both hands to attach the twine. Now simply saturate the twine in the glue and wrap around the balloon making sure that there is an opening at the top wide enough to place your hand in to light the candle. Also ensure that the base has enough layers to be able to hold the candle. Now just leave to dry.

Once the balloon is dry, pop it and you are left with your string lantern. You will need to attach string if you want to hang or just leave as is to use as a table decoration. We think these would look amazing on mass hanging under a tree if you are having an evening, outdoor wedding or suspended above every table as a very intimate way of illuminating a marquee. As a table centre they will cast intricate shadows across your tables. However you choose to display your lanterns they will no doubt leave a beautiful lasting impression on your guests and they will be astonished that they are handmade.

I recycled 100â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s of grey plastic shopping bags from work with would only have been thrown out. These fluffy pom poms made quite an impact when hung outside on the outdoor umbrellas. Every guest commented on how ingenious they were.
