CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE 2023 has been a rewarding and successful year for Economic Alliance. Project activity, advocacy, workforce development and event production has kept our team highly engaged in supporting our mission to market and grow a vibrant regional economy. We’ve once again raised the bar on our partnerships and strategic work with our Federal and State representatives along with TxDOT. The depth of our relationships can be read later in this report, but it’s worth noting that our advocacy with TxDOT and the announcement of the 225 Redevelopment Plan is setting the foundation for work that will have generational impacts on our region. This announcement is a milestone moment for Economic Alliance and all those involved in advocating for our region. To be a strong regional partner, it’s critical for Economic Alliance to understand where we provide leadership/ focus, and the following are initiative impacts of staff, members, businesses, and partners in 2023: •
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – 5 wins consisted of $1B in one-time capital investment, 318 direct jobs created and over 400 direct skilled jobs retained. The Houston Port region drew interest from 3 companies new to the State of Texas.
•
PUBLIC POLICY – Organized a 44-person Economic Alliance Leadership Team conducting 40 meetings with Senate, Congressional and Association representatives to present our Federal Policy priorities, along with trips to Austin to highlight our State Policy priorities during the 88th Legislative session.
•
TRANSPORTATION/INFRASTRUCTURE – The task force has long advocated for the redevelopment of SH225 and in 2023 TxDOT announced a formal plan to study, design and redevelop one of the Houston Port region’s most critical transportation corridors.
•
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT – Connected with 5,000+ individuals/students through 45 career path presentations at 73 different school districts, utilizing 29 volunteers from 12 different companies to market high paying careers in the petrochemical, maritime, logistics, and construction industries.
•
QUALITY OF LIFE – Through the San Jacinto Texas Historic District (SJTHD) provided 3 matching grants for projects promoting public safety, beautification, and community activities aligned with impacting the Houston Port region.
•
INSIGHTS/THOUGHT LEADERSHIP – Hosted over 4,000 attendees at 13 events with an average attendance of 310 participants at the Gulf Coast Industry Forum, Economic Outlook, 2 Industrial Procurement Forums, 3 successful Women in Alliance luncheons, and the Annual Membership Banquet.
I want to thank our members, board, and staff for providing the resources, leadership and day-to-day focus that is important to being a key organization in our region’s success. Our accomplishments can be a badge of pride for all involved and will continue to move us forward in supporting the many opportunities we are so fortunate to have in the Houston Port Region. On a final note, as my tenure as Chairman comes to an end, it has been my honor and pleasure to serve the Houston Port region over the last two years. When I pass the gavel, I know Economic Alliance is strategically positioned to support our members, grow a vibrant regional economy, and will continue to make a difference. Sincerely,
