INTRODUCTION Hello, I’m Edoardo, a master student in Design for Interaction at TU Delft. I’m currently developing a project for private home, and this is the first step of my designing process. With this booklet, I will try with your help to make a “context mapping” of people houses. A context mapping is like an exploration of the environment where people spend their lives: every project has a different scenario. Since I’m designing for private home, I need to discover all the particular elements that happens in the time people spend at their own home. This booklet is about “home feeling”, what your house means for you and the people you live with. With this booklet you could show me when you really feel home, what you do there, which is the relationship between you and your house, how do you activily take care of it. This information will become a guide and inspiration for my further design.

INSTRUCTIONS This research tool is called “cultural probes” It is composed of different task you are asked to complete: • fill in this booklet with information about you and your house • take pictures with your smart phone or digital camera and send them to the account smartenergyhome.1578@twitpic.com with your name and the number of the photo referring to the specific task presented in the booklet • complete six postcards you can find in the envelope about what you like and dislike in your house • for people with electricity “slimme meters” there are other two postcard about these instruments This research could look quite demanding, but I tried to design it in the most pleasant way I could. Please feel free to write and take pictures of what you really feel is your answer to the different task. This probes will help me as suggestions and inspirations, and won’t be used for any commercial purpose. I hope you will enjoy doing it! Thank you so much for your help! 2
