DEMONSTRATE: Use pages 226-227 in the textbook to help you answer these questions in detail, in full sentences… 1.What is meant by food miles? 2.Why is the global demand for food increasing? 3.Explain the environmental effects of high food miles. 4.Using figure 4, explain two arguments to defend high food miles. 5.Why are food miles lower in developing than in developed countries? 6.Why is soil the world’s most valuable natural resource? 7.What is a carbon footprint? How is it affected by food miles? Extension: create a poster showing the risks to environment and the consequences of ‘food miles’.
