The Big Picture: Is locally grown food better?


LEARNING OUTCOMES What: research a celebrity chef who has supported eating local produce How: work in groups and present your findings to the class Why: to understand the impact of celebrity chefs on the food industry


CONNECT: In your presentation you should try to answer these questions: 1.Is local produce better than food imported from abroad? Why? 2.What are the social / economic / environmental impacts of locally grown food? 3.What are the social / economic / environmental impacts of food from abroad? (Remember what you have learnt about food miles and carbon footprints already) 4.How have celebrity chef(s) supported locally grown food campaigns?


ACTIVATE: You need to work in groups of 3-4. You have this lesson to gather your research and work on your presentation. Next lesson we will present ideas to the class. You can create a poster, a PowerPoint, or a movie. You should also plan a speech to give during your presentation.

Everyone in your group must contribute to the presentation.
