Welcome to the

The 17th International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC-XVII)

T

he Electrochemical Society (ECS) High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes (H-TEMP) Division and the SOFC Society of Japan are honored to have you join us for this digital event!

Though disappointed that we couldn’t meet in person, we are very excited about the experience that the digital format provides participants. Take full advantage of all the opportunities this joint meeting affords! Check the online program to: • Attend live meeting-wide special events including plenary talks and topical question and answer (Q&A) sessions. • View digital presentation files (video, and/or slide deck or poster) for the majority of the 300 meeting abstracts. • Engage with presenters via a Q&A/comment field on every presentation webpage. • Communicate with attendees and meeting authors via a built-in peer-to-peer messaging tool. One of the best parts of in-person meetings is the exhibit hall and visiting the companies that assist and encourage the advancement of electrochemical and solid state science and technology. While we’re not meeting face to face, we’ve brought these companies to you here! Take time to browse through this Digital Exhibit and Vendor Guide (DEVguide). See what our partner companies have to offer. Don’t miss what might be the key to advancing your research!

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SOLID OXIDE FUEL CELLS (SOFC)

Co-sponsored by the High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes division of the Electrochemical Society, SOFC was initiated in 1989 in Hollywood, Florida, U.S. Subsequent symposia were held in Athens, Greece (1991); Honolulu, Hawaii (1993); Yokohama, Japan (1995); Aachen, Germany (1997); Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. (1999); Tsukuba, Japan (2001); Paris, France (2003); Quebec City, Canada (2005); Nara, Japan (2007); Vienna, Austria (2009); Montreal, Canada (2011); Okinawa, Japan (2013); Glasgow, Scotland, UK (2015); Hollywood, Florida, U.S. (2017); and Kyoto, Japan (2019). The symposia series’ objective is to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of research results and developments related to high temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs). SOFC is recognized worldwide as the most important event devoted solely to solid oxide cells. The next symposium, SOFC-XVIII, takes place from May 28-June 1, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.

ECS HIGH-TEMPERATURE ENERGY, MATERIALS, & PROCESSES DIVISION The ECS H-TEMP Division’s mission is to stimulate education, research, publication, and exchange of information related to the science and technology of high temperature materials, including ceramics, metals, alloys, and composites. Members represent all major science and engineering disciplines with common interests in the synthesis, properties, behavior, and characterization of high temperature materials. The division’s mission is pursued most actively by sponsoring international symposia on topics such as materials chemistry at high temperatures, chemical vapor deposition, diamond materials, lamp chemistry, interface behavior and properties at high temperatures, fundamental aspects of high temperature corrosion, solid oxide fuel cells, solid electrolyte sensors, and ionic and mixed conducting ceramics.

SOFC SOCIETY OF JAPAN The SOFC Society of Japan is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988. The original foundation was part of The Electrochemical Society of Japan (ECSJ). In 2011, The SOFC Society of Japan left ECSJ to become a self-supporting nonprofit scientific organization. As of 2020, the Society has over 100 scientists as individual members, and 50 corporations as contributing members. The Society’s goal is the encouragement of research, developments, and commercialization of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) by providing the forum with valuable discussions in a wide range of knowledge in this field, from fundamental electrochemistry or high-temperature chemistry, to stacks and systems. The Society also contributes to the worldwide exchange of information on SOFC R&D by co-organizing the international SOFC symposium with The Electrochemical Society.
