Message from the President ECS Welcomes You to Vancouver!
O
n behalf of the board of directors, volunteer leadership, and staff of ECS, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 241st ECS Meeting. This is our first in-person meeting in over two years!
Eric Wachsman ECS President
To kick off this exciting week, we invite ECS Members to join us at the Vancouver Convention Center (VCC) on Sunday for the ECS Members Only Reception on the 3rd floor of the VCC at 1800h. Members get to enjoy an open bar and special door prizes! The Opening Reception follows at 1900h in West Ballroom D of the convention center.
You won’t want to miss the Plenary Session on Monday, located in West Ballroom A, when we welcome attendees and wrap up the first full meeting day with the ECS Lecture, “Modern Lithium Ion Batteries: More than One Million Miles and Possibly a Century of Life,” by Jeff Dahn of Dalhousie University. We recognize Society award winners Martin Winter—recipient of the Henry B. Linford Award for Distinguished Teaching—and Robert Savinell—recipient of the Vittorio de Nora Award—along with numerous division award winners. Be sure to attend the Society, division, and section award talks in various symposia throughout the week. Check the online technical program for more details on these presentations and the full technical program of over 2,300 abstracts. Of course, visit the Exhibit Hall located in West Ballroom B/C/D to mingle with colleagues and discover our exciting lineup of industry-leading exhibitors. Poster sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday offer a universe of presentations to browse at your leisure. ECS is proud to have Vancouver as our host location. The city offers a chance to learn something new and the opportunity to unwind and enjoy local attractions. Take a self-guided taste tour of Granville Island; explore First Nations of the Pacific Northwest at the Museum of Anthropology; enjoy the day at Stanley Park Seawall; get a birds-eye view of the city and majestic North Shore Mountains on the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain Skyride; enjoy the sunset on Kitsilano Beach; and so much more! If you have any questions or concerns, please stop by Registration for further assistance. We hope you have a great meeting experience and thank you for your continued support of ECS!

Short Courses ECS Short Courses are all-day classes designed to provide students or seasoned professionals with an in-depth education on a wide range of topics. Taught by academic and industry experts, the small class size makes for personalized instruction, helping both novices and experts advance their technical expertise and knowledge. Short Courses are open to the public with special discounts for meeting attendees and members.
Basic Impedance Spectroscopy VIRTUAL* Sunday, 0800- 1630h; see Online Program for further information. Instructor: Mark Orazem
* For course participants attending the 241st ECS Meeting in person, a room is provided on site with breakfast snacks. The digital course attendees may also attend the onsite luncheon. Participants must bring their own equipment (laptop, headphones, etc.) as instruction is not screened.
This course is intended for chemists, physicists, materials scientists, and engineers with an interest in applying electrochemical impedance techniques to study a broad variety of electrochemical processes. Attendees develop a basic understanding of the technique, the sources of errors in impedance measurements, the manner in which experiments can be optimized to reduce these errors, and the use of graphical methods to interpret measurements in terms of meaningful physical properties. Consult the Online Program for more information. 24
Fundamentals of Electrochemistry: Basic Theory and Kinetic Methods IN PERSON Sunday, 0800- 1630h; see Online Program for further information. Instructor: James Noël
* Registration for this in-person short course includes Breakfast and Lunch.
This course covers the basic theory and application of electrochemical science. It is targeted to people with a physical sciences or engineering background who are not trained as electrochemists, but want to add electrochemical methods to their repertoire of research approaches. Many researchers originally approach their work from another discipline but then discover that it’s advantageous to understand and use some electrochemical methods to complement their work in many fields. Consult the Online Program for more information.
