JUNIOR INFANTS TO SECOND CLASS
The programme is organised into ten themes at each class level; one theme is covered per month.
A spiral approach is used whereby themes are revisited to allow for extensive engagement with each topic. The same ten themes are explored in Junior Infants and First Class and also in Senior Infants and Second Class, while some themes are covered every year and explored in a different way.
Key SESE skills are targeted; the development of geographical, historical and scientific skills is a key feature of the programme.
Opportunities are provided for integration between the SESE subjects and other curricular areas.
Designing, making, investigating and experimenting are key features of science lessons; the programme ensures that hands-on, practical activities are undertaken regularly.
The programme is clearly laid out; each subject is colourcoded in the Pupil Book and the Teacher’s Resource Book.
Colourful design, clear layout and a child-friendly font make the programme accessible to children of all abilities.
Each Little Explorer character is associated with a particular subject to enable children to differentiate between subjects. Sparky is the Little Explorer for Science, Erin represents Geography and Fionn is linked to History
Classroom Posters facilitate the introduction of the themes and enhance lessons across the three subject areas

I feel like this programme would 100% meet my school’s needs. It has the perfect amount of work for each level, there is lovely continuity with the pages and good progression throughout. – Primary Teacher, Dublin 9
I would recommend it to be used in my school when it is published. I cannot wait to see the finished product and use it in my classroom. – Primary Teacher, Dublin
Overall this is an exciting scheme. I love how there is a cross over between subjects with SESE, SPHE and Irish. – Primary Teacher, Tipperary
Something my class hated about their handwriting book was the repetition of the same letters and words. This programme focuses on handwriting as well as other exercises to get the children practising their writing which is very beneficial. – Primary Teacher, North Dublin
The inclusion of a flip page/ visual for correct writing etiquette is fantastic as I am constantly saying the same thing over and over. – Primary Teacher, Co. Dublin
Making use of idioms, Amazing Children, riddles, rhymes, jokes and tongue twisters makes the programme unique and fun. – Primary Teacher, Nenagh
