LETTER from the
A
EDITOR t the close of every year, I tend to become a bit reflective. It’s true the holidays are a perfect time to rejoice in merriment and plan for the future, however I tend to take a more thoughtful approach. Every issue, this year, has marked a milestone in my life.
The issue that means the most to me is the May|Jun Home & Garden edition. The magazine was beautiful as usual, but during the production I lost someone very close to me, and for the first time in a very long time, I had to depend on those around me to help me finish the product. It was very scary for me to let my guard down and to ask for help. I don’t take to change very easily. During this time, I realized that our team was more than capable of doing the job, which made me tremendously proud. Since then I have tried to encourage independence in our staff. Don’t be scared to have an opinion! The worst thing that could happen is someone could tell you no. Opinions open doors to new perspectives and possibilities, which are limited only by the confines of mediocrity. Because of this change in creative direction, I believe that each issue surpasses the last as we continue on this new trajectory. With this said, I simply love (practically everything) in this latest Nov|Dec edition. Not only for the content, but I see our staff in every corner of this issue—from the fonts and brush strokes by Pheng, to the vibrant verbiage and candor of Lauren, and my business partner Donna’s keen sense of marketing. Nothing gives me more joy than to see those around me flourish. I’m profoundly grateful to those I have surrounded myself with, which makes this holiday season all the more magical. So take some time to appreciate those few who make each day a little brighter, and remember that tomorrow is a gift and yesterday is to be treasured. Cheers and Happy Holidays,
David

Staying
HEALTHY & FIT Over the Holidays Health & Fitness Editor Dina Juve
Featuring Real Whole Food Recipes for the Holidays 5 Ingredients, 30 Minutes or Less So much excitement swirls around the holidays—all the gatherings, parties, spending time with friends, loved ones, and family near and far. All the delicious meals together and desserts after. Nights by the fire. Holiday music and beautiful decorations everywhere. Laughter, joy, and happiness fill up a room. It is a magical time of year. But at some point the holidays can get the best of us. All of us. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! Exhaustion and stress can take over. We want everything to be perfect, but sometimes we feel quite the opposite. We start grabbing food when we can and we skip our workouts. We really want to take care of ourselves, but when can we find the time? Then comes “I’ll do it, come New Year’s. I’ll get organized, catch up on sleep, eat healthy, and workout!” I hear this so much over the holidays. Instead of waiting until New Year’s, why not gift yourself the best present ever over the holidays? Take care of yourself first! This will not only help you feel your best inside and out, but the health benefits are tremendous! If you stay up on your workout schedule, eat those holiday goodies in moderation, and get good sleep, I promise those holiday blues won’t get you. You’ll have the energy to cook, clean, and pick out meaningful gifts. You’ll enjoy the parties, your kids’ programs, and love every moment of quality time. You’ll feel confident in every outfit you wear. You won’t want to hide in photos. The magic of the holidays will be memorable because you got enough sleep to remember them. Here are simple tips to make this the best holiday season yet:
Schedule your workouts.
We all feel better after a workout. More energy, less stress, and less anxiety. Invest and book all your classes in advance for the holiday season. Hire a personal trainer that will keep you accountable. If this doesn’t work for your budget, pick a friend to hold you accountable and work out together. Also try to walk any time you can—it all adds up.
Eat in moderation. Yes you can go to that party and eat guilt-free! I love to skim over the food before I decide what I want. Then I pick 2-3 items and I eat them without guilt. If you happen to eat or drink too much, make the commitment to yourself to reset the next day. Drink more water, eat less salt. Eat more lean protein, vegetables, and fruits.
Even better, bring a dish!
If you bring a healthier side dish, dessert, or holiday mocktail or cocktail, you know you will have something healthier for you to enjoy. I bet everyone else will love it, too, without knowing it’s healthier. I have provided three of my favorite holiday recipes for you to try here.
Try to keep a good sleep schedule. Even consider napping if you need to. More sleep equals more energy. More energy makes you less grouchy and more willing to stick to workouts and take care of yourself.
See it first in your mind.
Visualize yourself feeling amazing in every holiday situation. I ask my clients to pick out an outfit and think about that outfit before they skip their workout or overindulge.
Create a to-do list. This is so helpful to keep you organized over the holidays instead of wasting time...time you could be working out. Most of all, remember what the holidays are really about. When we feel good, inside and out, we enjoy everything more. So this year, make it the year you don’t give up on you! Make it the year where you shine bright and sparkle with joy. Make it the year you continue your fitness and health routine. Give yourself that gift. You deserve it!
Cran-Apple Oatmeal Crisp Serves: 6 Estimated calories per serving: 298 Prep time: 10 minutes Total time: 30 minutes Ingredients 3 Granny Smith apples 1¼ cups cranberry sauce ¾ cup old-fashioned oats (uncooked) 4 tbs. butter (cold, unsalted), plus more for greasing dish Optional ½ cup light brown sugar (packed) with ½ tsp. cinnamon (ground)
Directions • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. • Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish with unsalted butter. • Core and slice the apples into ¼-inch thick slices. • In a large bowl, toss together apples with cranberry sauce. • Pour the fruit mixture into prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer. • If adding optional light brown sugar and cinnamon, whisk them together in a small bowl with the oats until combined. • Cube the butter then add it to the bowl, working it into the oat mixture with your fingers until it is well incorporated. • Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the fruit. • Place the dish on a baking sheet and bake the crisp for 20 minutes, until the oats are toasted and the fruit is bubbling. If you like it crispier, leave it in a little longer. • Remove the crisp from the oven. • Serve the crisp warm.
Notes on old-fashioned oats Old-fashioned oats are a type of whole grain, which means they retain the bran, germ, and endosperm parts of the grain. Whole grains are a good source of fiber and help promote a feeling of fullness, thereby reducing overall calorie consumption.

GIVE THANKS Interiors Contributor Olivia Schmitz Senior Designer, Erin Melkonian Interior Design Photographer Ellie Koleen
I
love Thanksgiving! Food, family, and a large table to gather are all you need. Thanksgiving is just a time to hang and reconnect without the pressure of gift giving. This year, I’m particularly excited to host family from all over the country. My brother is even making the trek from Berlin, so my table needs to be extra special.
Luckily, I’m super inspired by the current dried floral trend and conveniently they give a Thanksgiving table the perfect amount of harvest vibe. This year I went with a black, white, terra-cotta/copper theme. Gray is a predominant color in my home décor, so I pulled that throughout the table via the dried florals, as well as in the bud vases. A pop of mustard yellow, wheat, and shades of rust and dusty rose round out the modern yet organic color palette.
The plates are matte white and have an irregular, hand-crafted feel. The matte finish makes the setting feel earthy, but also very on-trend. Copper napkins with a white pinstripe communicate with the coolest concrete wood grain candleholders in terra-cotta pink color. On top of the napkins sit copper forged flatware that has a distinctly modern shape juxtaposed with a textured casual finish. The matte black pottery vases are the perfect foil to anchor the light-colored stems they hold. Overall, this table gives all of the Thanksgiving feels without feeling too precious to really dig in and enjoy. Bon appétit and Happy Thanksgiving.

he holiday season is upon us. We all love the much needed time off and quality time with family and friends, yet the holidays are still a lot of work. I created a comfortable, simple, and stylish home for this time of year. With these five steps, you can beam your home into the holiday spirit with less fuss.
STEP 1: Find what’s ordinary and make it extraordinary. I cut down some branches from my Japanese maple tree and arranged them in a very basic glass vase I had in my closet. I hung ornaments from some of the branches, and used the arrangement as a centerpiece on a coffee table—it brings whimsy and enchantment to the room.
STEP 2: Get the perfect greens. This year my favorites include: juniper pine, white cedar, magnolia, weeping cedar, cypress, and long needle pine. I favored the long needle pine for this feature. Just like the name implies, its long needles provide an out-of-this-world modern flare, while the medium to light green hue of its body packs a big punch. Every year I talk about real versus fake. For this photoshoot, I used faux foliage. If you go faux, make sure to invest in high quality. Remember: what you pay for is what you get! If you are opting for live greenery, it is essential to keep them moist in the dry winter months. To lock in the moisture, you can treat the leaves with an anti-desiccant spray (sold at most nurseries). Keep them out of direct sunlight. And, mix different types to give your home the ultimate aromatic experience.
STEP 3: Set your table. I don’t always keep my table ready for service, but around this time of year it’s fun to feel prepared for an impromptu dinner with dear friends or family. I think a set table warms up your home and gives all the holiday feels. My table setting combines plain black plates (black is oh-so-cool for any season), a mixture of candlesticks, and garland of my favorite long needle pine.
STEP 4: Swap out existing art for wintery graphics. One of my favorite sources for artwork and photography is www.minted.com. The site has thousands of images that you can choose from, and with a wide range of sizes and framing options, this is a perfect source to find affordable seasonal art. I selected black and white framed prints to liven this home with holiday cheer. You can be sure decking the halls with this unexpected twist will make your home truly enchanting.
STEP 5: Wrapping the presents should be no hassle at all. I used white butcher paper and a simple black satin ribbon to wrap my presents this year. I like the high contrast of black and white, plus the satin ribbon gives an elegant touch. No matter the theme of your holiday décor, I encourage you to keep it simple, fresh, and inspiring.

ew celebrities manage to balance real-life and spotlight perfectionism the way Nikki DeLoach does. The Hallmark star has made a major impact on the rom-com world since her first made-for-TV movie with the network in 2015. Yet this Southern girl is decidedly much more than just a pretty face.
Growing up in Georgia, Nikki credits her opportunity and inspiration primarily to one person: “A lot of it had to do with my grandmother … she loved the movies, I mean loved the movies … and I stayed with my grandmother a lot. I was with her probably at minimum three nights a week if not more. We would always go to the movie rental store … and we would rent (especially if I stayed with her all weekend) five different movies—as many as they’d let us rent.” They’d watch movies at night and eat popcorn together, Nikki recalls fondly. Needless to say, she was hooked from girlhood. “My parents will tell you that at three years old I pointed to the TV and said, ‘I want to do that!’ … There’s never been a time in my life where I’ve never not known that becoming a storyteller was the thing that I wanted to do as far as my job.”
At seven, Nikki really started to pursue professional work in the form of commercials and kids print work. And her grandmother went with her for all of it, even moving with Nikki to Orlando when she landed her first big break on The Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s (cast alongside Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Keri Russell, and Ryan Gosling) when she was 12. “When the show was over, she moved with me to Los Angeles for work afterwards.” A slew of acting jobs followed, notably a starring role (opposite Mark Wahlberg and Bill Paxton) in the feature film Traveller. She was part of the main cast in the TV series Misery Loves Company, and played Anthony LaPaglia’s daughter in the television movie Never Give Up: The Jimmy V Story. But in 1997, Nikki decided to take a break from acting, shifting focus to the world of pop music. Signing with RCA and BMG Records, she became a member of the girl group Innosense. When the group disbanded six years later, Nikki reentered Hollywood with sustained success. She has guest starred on some of TV’s biggest hit shows, including NCIS, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: NY, Cold Case, Mad Men, and Without a Trace, to name a few, and was a series regular on the popular show North Shore. Nikki’s films include Love & Other Drugs, Flying Lessons (opposite Maggie Grace and Hal Holbrook), and the French comedy Hollywoo. And then came Awkward, a #1 scripted and critically acclaimed series from MTV, in 2011. For five years, Nikki portrayed Lacey Hamilton (one of television’s “hottest moms”) on the show. Awkward won a People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Cable TV Comedy” and was nominated for “Favorite Dramedy” while on the air. It was while still on Awkward that Nikki got her first Hallmark movie role, which actually premiered on Christmas Eve. “I was home in Georgia over the holidays, and we had a Christmas Eve service, and the pastor was like, ‘We gotta get everybody through and get you guys home because Nikki DeLoach is gonna be on Hallmark tonight!’ You’re talking about a church that has 1,500 to 2,000 people,” Nikki reminiscences of the Christmas

“I love working in the genre of romantic comedies … I want to make someone laugh and I also want to make them cry. I want to make them feel everything.” Land debut. “The whole church went home and everyone watched my movie … I’ve just never had that type of a reaction from my hometown. Granted, they weren’t really the demo for Awkward,” she says with a laugh. “There was an energy, a really connective tissue that existed and I felt it when they would talk to me about the movie,” she realized. This experience and feedback deeply resonated within her. Nikki had always wanted to do a Hallmark Christmas movie—watching them, with a bottle of wine while wrapping presents and decorating, has been a secret guilty pleasure of hers for years. The transition from TV series work to television movies answered multiple desires and needs in one stroke for Nikki. She and husband Ryan Goodell have two children: Hudson, who just started kindergarten, and Bennett, whose birth and risky open-heart surgery was featured in a People magazine exclusive in 2017. Given the nature of her family’s personal needs at the time, Nikki’s schedule wasn’t exactly flexible. “It was actually perfect timing in my life for Hallmark to come in and be like, ‘We want to do more with you!’” Shorter shooting schedules allowed her to work and be a mother simultaneously, and she could take the kids with her if need be. “It just actually was the perfect working situation for me for the last couple of years in my life” Plus, “I love working in the genre of romantic comedies … I want to make someone laugh and I also want to make them cry. I want to make them feel everything.” Hallmark viewers will also recognize Nikki from her starring roles in the network’s original movies, including The Perfect Catch, Christmas Land, A Dream of Christmas, Truly, Madly, Sweetly, and Love Takes Flight, all of which premiered as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation. Nikki’s experience and perfectionist tendencies shined when she developed, executive produced, and starred in Reunited at Christmas, which premiered on the network last November. “I loved it—I thrived!” Having worked in film and television in all genres and in so many performing capacities, “if you take everything, all the information, all the knowledge that I have and I bring to the table, it really honestly is the perfect amount of experience that lends itself to being a producer.” Storytelling is a central theme in Nikki’s life. Referencing how she was raised, Nikki reached a point in her twenties where she was determined to be simply herself. “Growing up in the South, this was a hard thing for me because while I had this beautiful, idyllic childhood, there was also this expectation of perfection that I got from my family … I was told everyday, ‘This is who you are.’” Of course nothing ill was intended by this, as Nikki clarifies, speaking to the way she, her mother, and her grandmother were all raised. Nevertheless, “I went from a family that expected that of me to an industry that expected that of me. I never in my life had this chance to kinda be like, ‘Who am I? Like really and truly, Who
am I outside of this industry? Who am I as a person outside of my family?’” “Jen [Dede] kinda walked into my life at that point in time where I was like, ‘I want to wake up and I want to be the most authentic version of myself. And I don’t care if it’s messy and I don’t care if it’s ugly. And I don’t care if my messiness makes people uncomfortable.’ This is important. This is important to living a good life.” From this revelation, Nikki and Jen co-founded What We Are—what started as a hobby blog has now turned into a platform and a movement for women about women. A spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Association (in honor of her father, who is living with a rare form of dementia called Pick’s disease), Nikki also passionately supports Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), which provided life-saving care for her son, Bennett—in fact, Nikki and her family now “adopt a family” at CHLA each Christmas, which helps support the most vulnerable and financially challenged patients and their families. We’ve seen Nikki’s characters in several TV Christmases now, but what does Christmas actually look like in the DeLoach-Goodell household? “It really and truly looks very similar to a Hallmark movie!” To start, the family picks out a real tree at the lot. “I actually am a fan of having really personalized ornaments on your tree.” She has collected ornaments from all her travels, and puts up those from her kids and her own childhood, too. Matching pajamas on Christmas Eve and morning are a must. Nikki even commits to wearing an ugly sweater almost every day in December! But spending Christmas Eve with extended family in Georgia is her favorite part of the holiday. Nikki can next be seen in Hallmark’s upcoming Christmas movie Two Turtle Doves, opposite Michael Rady. The movie premieres on November 1st on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Though Nikki would love to eventually work her way into the director’s chair, starring in this latest Christmas movie was a nice break in the action. “It was actually kind of a pleasure just to be responsible for my lines and show up on set,” and working with a team that she has nothing but praise for made the experience even more pleasurable— they did “the job that I would have done had I produced it.” “Sometimes you don’t produce and you watch. You should always be watching, you should always be observing, because we are never not learning,” says Nikki, and one can’t help but agree. “It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve done something. If you are in a place where you’re like, ‘I have nothing left to learn,’ then you should probably quit and go do something else.” No matter where one is in life or how perfect something may seem, it’s difficult to argue with that ideal—it is in the pursuit of perfection that perfectly imperfect is conceived. Nikki DeLoach is the essence of just that.
HOME for the HOLIDAYS Lifestyle Contributor Mary Papaleo
With life comes celebration! As soon as the calendar turns to October 1st, the sensation to entertain falls upon us. From birthdays, to anniversaries, to harvest gatherings, and to the consecutive holidays that ensue, the last three months of the year are the epitome of entertaining.
W
hile it is bittersweet to say goodbye to summer and the memories we have made, there is something renewing about the chill in the air and the warm colors of foliage as we start each day. So, how do we maximize this season that tends to be a blur for most? We must surround ourselves with family and friends and all of its glory and in every sense. “Leave” no leaf unturned. Entertaining begins at the entry of your home. Deck your halls outside, too! Your entry should be welcoming. Hang a wreath on your front door and don’t forget to hang one on the inside as well so you, too, can enjoy your embellishment. In the fall, place fresh pumpkins on your porch and steps, add lanterns with solar or outdoor LED candles for glow and illumination. In December, hang fresh evergreen boughs on your mailbox and carriage lights, in addition to your door wreaths. Replace pumpkins with urns or planters full of birch or ilex branches that will collect and display the early winter frost. Contribute your seasonal spirit to your neighbors as well as your arriving guests.
Upon entry into your home, be sure it’s scented throughout. Scents immediately transport you to a place and time and release endorphins that relax the mind and evoke a sense of nostalgic euphoria. The smell of pumpkin spice reminds you of Thanksgiving at your grandmother’s. The smell of fresh pine takes you to Christmas morning of yesteryear. Allure your guests to rekindle these senses in your home and evoke new ones with scented candles, potpourri, diffusers, mulled spices, or fresh cloved fruit. As we approach December, vases of fresh evergreens will last weeks and scent multiple rooms at a time. A word of caution: choose up to two scents maximum at a time. Too many smells will actually counteract each other and may cause the reverse effect of pleasantry. For example, choose cinnamon and clove or pine and eucalyptus. Simplicity is key to success. Layering is not only for scents—it applies to everything. Your tablescape is another stage to showcase overlays of texture. Linens or table runners are the foundation for placemats of fabric, cork, metal, or petrified wood. Next, chargers will adorn this regal theater of dining in mixed metallics, blown glass, or beaded artwork. Be sure to have

candlelight at your table, in varied heights, ensuring glow at all levels for autumn and winter banquet fare. Don’t be afraid to mix colors with your candles. Keep your palette in the same tones: white and ivory, grey and charcoal, or go glam with gold and silver. When you are staging your buffet and refreshments, be sure to include your layers and textures. Use elevations, whether you use tiered serving trays or wood boxes, glass blocks or stacks of books to stagger levels for your platters and bowls—you will not only create additional surface area on your serving space, you will also make your food display more inviting and appealing. Let your imagination run wild with serving vessels. A wine box lined with linen napkins is a homey way to present breads or whole fruits. That random piece of marble or granite you’ve had in your pantry will make a beautiful surface for a fabulous cheese display. Framed mirrors are gorgeous to display baked treasures on at your dessert table. Add sprigs of fresh autumn foliage and evergreens throughout. These bursts of seasonal botanical freshness add great contrast to your foods and lend holiday jazz. Think outside of the box for centerpieces. Garlands of eucalyptus, magnolia, pepper berry, and cedar will grace your Thanksgiving table and still be proud to beautify the holiday feast or mantle. Bowls and platters of fresh cloved fruit atop boughs of pine will last from Christmas though the New Year. Collage multiple pillar, taper, and votive candles down the center of your table from October through January for an uncomplicated base. There are several blooms available to add fresh scent in addition to beauty. Potted narcissus are a traditional holiday plant that will grace any area of your home with
fragrance and neutral white blooms. Consult your floral professional for lasting fresh arrangements that will grace your table and living areas. Pillows, pillows, pillows...plaid, velvet, beaded, sequin, fur...there is no wrong answer here. Jewel tones, black, red, gold, silver, copper— whatever your festive taste, toss them on your sofas, chairs, and beds. Pillows are kisses of the season! They invite you and your guests to sit, relax, and stay awhile. And while you’re tossing pillows, sprinkle some cozy throw blankets around, inside and outside. Fire pits make fabulous gathering spots for bundling up in blankets with cocoa and friends during the season. Speaking of fire, as soon as the weather allows, light a fire. Nothing says a holiday evening like a fire surrounded by friends and family. Let us not forget an important, yet overlooked room: the powder room. Nearly every guest will visit this room during your gathering. Light a scented candle and keep seasonal fingertip towels by the sink at all times during your festivities. Adorn your vanity with a petite vase of fall leaves or evergreens with berries. Amidst all of the holiday hustle and bustle, remind yourself that you, too, need to enjoy the season. Treat yourself by adding one new item to your holiday collection each year, whether it be an ornament, a decorative item, or a tiny bauble. Make it something that makes you smile and reflect the following season. After all, that is what the holidays are about—enjoying the moments and making memories to cherish.

hat happens when interior designer Roseanne Guaglianone and real estate broker Sandra Mikaelian get together? Magic happens!
Sandra and Michael Mikaelian contacted Roseanne Guaglianone of Hemisphere Home to help them furnish and put the final touches on the beautiful Image Custom Home they built in Visalia, California with entertaining in mind. Sandra’s concept was resort-style living—together, she and Roseanne created an environment that rivals any five-star resort. Their home boasts close to 7,000 square feet of pure luxury. Although not every room can be shown in this photo feature, you can go to Roseanne’s page on www.houzz.com to see the balance of photos for this project. The living room has a combination of Bernhardt furnishings and custom pieces that were created exclusively for the Mikaelians. Roseanne commissioned a 72-inch square iron and tempered glass cocktail table that took eight men to install! If you look closely, you can see Sandra’s favorite magazine is lying on this magnificent cocktail table. One of the things Roseanne is known for is her use of fabrics and textures in her work, which enriches all of her projects. For this project, she selected an elegant and oh-so-rich Palazzo Velvet fabric from Scalamandre for the draperies in the living room. Draperies always help to soften the hard edges of windows as well as act acoustically to help quiet any sounds to match the serenity of this home. Sandra’s desire for a light and bright kitchen was accomplished by using Brazilian Taj Mahal quartzite for all the counters and a mix of Marble Onyx Beige installed in a Versailles pattern for the floors. The swivel counter stools were custom made by Leathercraft using a soft deep gray leather on the seat and inside seat back with an accent fabric on the outside back. The print on the back of the counter stools intentionally coordinates with the bold scaled Scalamandre fabric on the draperies. The dining chairs are from Bernhardt’s Marquesa Collection and are upholstered in a subtly patterned plush charcoal velvet. The 82-inch tall arched mirrors reflect warm light from the stunning chandelier, the glowing landscape lights, and roaring fire pit outside. Sandra, Michael, and their dog Charley love entertaining family and friends in their gorgeous home, especially during the holidays. If you are lucky enough to be invited, you will discover that it is always an elegant Christmas at the Mikaelians.

Beauty Chat:
Monique Samuels Beauty Editor Jessica McCafferty
In this new series for CVLUX, we will be chatting with today’s brightest TV and movie stars. First up, it’s our opening Beauty Chat with Bravolebrity Monique Samuels from The Real Housewives of Potomac.
JM: What is one beauty ritual you make sure to do daily? MS: I wash my face before I go to bed. There was a time when I didn’t think that was a big deal and I’d wake up and wash my face and think that was good enough, but washing my skin before bed has totally changed the way my skin looks and feels. It’s a rare thing if I have an acne breakout because it’s keeping my skin clear. You don’t realize how much the environment and just being outside tears down your skin. If you don’t have makeup on and you’re running around doing errands, you’re like “okay well I didn’t wear makeup today so I don’t need to wash my face before I go to bed,” but in actuality those pollutants and everything that’s in the air can cause just as much if not more damage to your skin. JM: What are some of your favorite products to use right now? MS: I love this brand called Ancient Cosmetics. They have a lot of natural skincare creams for the whole body, including your face. I love their natural soaps and face washes. They have this turmeric face wash that I am obsessed with. The fact that it has an expiration date lets me know that the ingredients are natural and pure. It’s not something you can leave on your shelf for a whole year and expect it to still work.
JM: How does your glam change and evolve? What inspires you to try a new look? MS: I remember when I first started the show, my makeup was heavier. It’s crazy because it actually aged me. My glam has changed because now I actually use less makeup. I’ll go for a dramatic eye or a nice lip, but when it comes to using foundation, I’ve used less and less over the years. I get a lot of compliments from people saying I look like I’m aging backwards and they ask what I’m doing or what’s my trick. I’m using less makeup and going for more of a natural look. I don’t want my makeup to look heavy and I don’t want the makeup to wear me. JM: What beauty advice do you have for other women on-the-go? MS: I’d love for people to check out my Not For Lazy Moms website, www.notforlazymoms. com. We have some beauty tips under “Maintaining Mommy” and some lifestyle tips on beauty and just trying to start from the inside and work your way out, when it comes to making changes in your body and skin. A lot of people want to be very topical all the time but they have terrible eating habits, they’re eating greasy food, they’re not drinking enough water. You can do topical all day but your skin is still going to suffer, so we talk a lot about other natural alternatives you can use.

LANDMARK PROPERTIES
Real estate is my passion and I’d love to share that with you.
MORGAN LESTER, BROKER FRESNO, CALIFORNIA
M
y name is Morgan Lester and I am the broker and co-founder of Landmark Properties. We are a full-service real estate brokerage that specializes in the sale of residential homes. The brokerage has over 45 sales agents with two offices, located in Northwest Fresno and the Tower District. We are proudly devoted to serving clients all across the Central Valley.
ABOUT ME I was born and raised in Fresno, attended Bullard High, and graduated from Fresno State with a B.A. in communications. After completing my education, I obtained my broker’s license and formed Landmark Properties with my childhood friend Ryan Perkins. My love for real estate grew as I began buying, selling, flipping, and managing rental homes. WHAT’S NEW AT LANDMARK PROPERTIES I’m excited to announce that we have moved our main office to a new location. We are now located on the northwest corner of Herndon and West. We completed an extensive renovation, and I’m extremely excited for our clients and sales agents to experience this transformation with us. WHAT MAKES THIS OFFICE DIFFERENT I wanted a fun and collaborative environment for our agents at the new office. Collectively, we loved the idea of moving to an open floor plan and we’re improving efficiencies by utilizing technology. The office includes a large communal area with desk space, comfortable seating, and a conference room. WHY WE CHANGED TO THE OPEN CONCEPT In real estate, it’s very important for everyone in the office to help each other and have strong communication. This space provides the opportunity to synergize and build off one another. I stress the importance of a strong support system, and it’s one of the core values here at Landmark Properties.

THE MATHER METHOD
I want you to love where you live.
LAURA MATHER, BROKER ASSOCIATE FRESNO, CALIFORNIA
T
he Mather Method takes the song and dance out of your home sale—whether you are selling or buying—and replaces it with something much more reliable: the art of marketing, versus just selling, and the science to back it up. My story could be much like your own. No entitlements, I have worked my way from entry-level property manager to a national Vice President of Sales and Marketing, to where I am now as one of Fresno’s top producers.
MY SPECIALTY My focus is always on my clients’ needs. I have a diverse client base with needs in every spectrum of the market. CAREER-DEFINING MOMENT There have been several career-defining moments at different stages in my career. The most memorable, by far, was during our company’s IPO (UCP Inc.), where we rang the opening bell at the NYSE on July 18th, 2013. Adding to the moment...being the only female at the podium. Now that I have transitioned from corporate America to being independent and self-employed, one of the greatest moments was being voted CVLUX Best Realtor in January 2018. WHAT SETS ME APART My vast real estate experience. I have a well-rounded understanding of the market and the industry as a whole. The Mather Method is the art and science to a successful home sale! I work very hard at delivering high-quality deliverables on a consistent basis. Each client’s goals are unique, and it’s my job to determine that and to find a solution to their needs. BEST ADVICE WHEN SELLING YOUR HOME Preparing your home for market is critical. Be proactive! Start with getting a pest inspection done (very affordable at approximately $80). The inspector is looking for wood rot, water intrusions, and pest issues, especially termites. If you have work to do from the findings, it’s best to know before hitting the market—the fewer hurdles you have during escrow, the better.
