SUMMARY: An old Ugandan legend told that if someone has the courage to enter in the mouth of a lion and leaves unscathed, he will find happiness. But there isn’t anybody who has left it. Will it be just a legend that people count to make small people disappear? AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR: Istvansch Istvanch was born in 1968. He is a self-taught, illustrator, designer, and writer. He has published more than 80 books in Argentina, Mexico, France, Spain and Switzerland. He has been awarded the "Lista de Honor" of ALIJA [Asociación de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil de Argentina, Argentine Association of Literature for Children and Young People] (1992, 1995, 1996 and 1999), the first prize "Fantasía" of Argentine Children's Literature (1998), the first honourable mention in the same competition (1999) and the first honourable mention for the award "Utopía Latinoamericana" [Latin American Utopia], at the 27th International Congress of the IBBY, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia (2000). He was elected candidate to the "Octogonal" award offered by CIELJ in Paris, France (1994 and 1996). He is the Argentine nominee to the Hans Christian Andersen Award (2002 and 2004).

She received numerous awards and honours for his works, including the White Raven. She has also coordinated literary workshops and she has travelled along the country with a project called "The Rights of the Child", hosted by UNDP, the United Nations Program for Development and the Ministry of Culture's Office. ILLUSTRATOR: Claudia Legnazzi Claudia Legnazzi was born in 1956. She studied painting at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts and has worked as a children’s book illustrator since 1985. In 1993 she moved to México, where she illustrated books for publishers such as Macmillan, Ediciones Sm, Unam, Fondo de Cultura Económica and Santillana. In 2004 she moved back to argentina. She has illustrated stories written by different authors and also writes and illustrates her own books.

CHERRY AND KIWI

Kiwi spends his days at home, being afraid that cherry could forget how to smile. So, one day, forgetting that he is not good at shoots, he climbs a tree and starts shooting arrows to the clouds until drops of rain begin to fall, the river flows again and Kiwi could see Cherry’s smile again. AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR: Didi Grau Didi Grau, that also signs her works as Silvia Grau, is an illustrator and writer. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. Then, she studied drawing with Carlos Fels and comic with Alberto Breccia. She works as an illustrator since 1980 and as a writer since 1997. Her writings and illustrations were published at several publishing houses of Argentina and abroad. The technique she prefers to illustrate is dry pastel and also the mixed media collage with adobe Photoshop. She lives and works in Argentina.

She studied Fine Arts at Prilidiano Pueyrredon College and also took illustration and fine arts workshops with Ana Perrotta, Oscar Rojas and Helena Homs. She worked for Alfaguara, Atlantida, A-z, EDB, El Ateneo, SM and Sudamericana Publisher Houses, among others. Some of the books she has illustrated are: La Hija de Blancanieves by Conrado Nale Roxlo, Picaflores De Cola Roja by Laura Devetach, Los viejitos de la casa by Iris Rivera, El mundo de Federico by Marta Prada, and Las Brujas Sueltas by Cecilia Pisos.

THE DAY THE ELEPHANT GOT LOST

She discovered words as landscapes to enter into new worlds: she came into the world of literature and she wrote tales for children and adults, she also explored the world of poetry, the journalism and the university teaching. ILLUSTRATOR: Mima Castro She was born in Neuqén, Argentina and she enjoys drawing since she was a child. Her education in Plastic Arts comes from studying at the workshop of Felipe Noé, Oscar Smoge, Miguel Dávila and Aníbal Carreño. Ever since, I have tried to communicate by means of images, lines and colors. She was an interior decorator and a fashion designer. Currently, she takes pleasure in illustrating books and manuals for several publishing houses. She has a member of the Forum of Illustrators.

THE MAGIC PENCIL OF BRUNO

ILLUSTRATOR: Héctor Adrián Borlasca He was born in Avellaneda, province of Buenos Aires. His vocation for drawing is born in adolescence. He made a billboard with jokes about school, mates and teachers. The race of Borlasca seemed go toward the graphic-humour until a meet made him change his mind. when he met a great writer, Marta Giménez Pastor. With her he starts working in the field of children's illustration. And so, he was transformed from comic to illustrator, working in the textbooks of various publishing houses in Argentina.

THE LITTLE MOUSE WHO DOUBTED AND DOUBTED

When she doesn’t write, she likes to read, tell stories to their grandchildren Camila and Ignacio or take a walk with their dogs. Among the books she wrote: Amores que matan, Tratado universal de monstruos, S.O.S. Gorilas. ILLUSTRATOR: Irene Singer She was born in Buenos Aires and she got a degree in engraving from the School of Fine Arts at the National University of La Plata in 1984. Since then she has been developing different kinds of activities relating to her educational background. Between 1983 and 1987, she published Latin American artists’ masterpieces while working at the Praxis Art Gallery engraving studio. Between 1987 y 1992, she helped set up several engraving and silkscreen studios in Ecuador, Costa Rica and Mexico. Since 1992 she has been illustrating books for children and young people, both fiction and non-fiction ones, for several publishing houses in Argentina.

MAIA’S SECRET

She loves to alternate between hyper realistic illustrations and more naive sketches, which were stemming from my essence addressed to the little ones.

ELEAZAR AND THE RIVER

She had an elder brother, her mother who used to make jam and knit, her father who was a hairdresser. One uncle, who worked at a cinema and took her to his job from time to time. She used to like watering the plants, attending the flowers growth, keeping leaves and petals in books. She used to play "rayuela"(game of drawing with lines a path on the floor and jumping through it), hide and seek, and visits. At nap time she would read and write. Now she lives in Neuquén. She has published poetry books, stories and novels. ILLUSTRATOR: Carlos Alberto Juárez He is a visual artist and illustrator and he realizes images in collages for children's books. He received various awards for his artistic works, like "Vincent Forte" of the National Exhibition of Art 1994, Argentina, and the first prize of Drawing and painting in the Biennale of Patagonia, FUNDESUR 2001.

ESMERALDA AND THE STRAWBERRIES

Because of she likes to travel, almost all her stories are settled in far places or outdoors. Like in this one, in El hada del zapato, or in Candelaria. Her poems speak about fishes, kangaroos and skies, and her latest novel is settled in another planet. ILLUSTRATOR: María Wernike She was born in Olivos, near the river. She spent her childhood with her parents who were both writers. Before working as an illustrator, besides writing and drawing, she dedicated herself to graphic design. The first book she illustrated was Había una vez un delfín written by Graciela Pérez Aguilar. In between, she has taken part in individual and collective exhibitions, Bratislava 2001 and many others next to her colleagues from the Forum of Illustrators of Children’s Books and ADA (Association of Illustrators of Argentina).

SUNFLOWER INF THE SUN

Therefore he had to smiled again. AUTHOR: Estela Nanni de Smania She was born in Paraná (Entre Rios), but she lives in Córdoba. In Córdoba to study law, she got married, had three daughters, and now five grandchildren! She said that when she was young she began to write stories and she knew sunflowers like this in her trips to the countryside every summer. She has a lot of tales published in magazines, books, newspaper and also others resting in big and little boxes. We will mention Name just a few: La noche de los ruidos, Día de visitas, Pido gancho, Cambalache, ¡Ay, renata!, Jacinto, Fuga de vocales, Un viaje al campo. ILLUSTRATOR: Luciana Fernández She was born in Buenos Aires and she has studied art-sculpture at the School of Fine Arts. She makes animated videos of her creations with her friends, and she also illustrates books. Now she is creating all kind of bugs. She loves the Muppets and the fantastic world of Max Ernst. She is known as Luciana Plasticine because she loves to work with this material.

THE SMILE OF THE WHALE

SUMMARY:

Makarena was the whale with the worst character in Peninsula Valdes: she was always annoyed and human beings were what make her angrier. One day two girls, who were playing on the beach, Cecilia and Socorro, climbed on her top and slept over there without Makarena realized it. Makarena decided to give a walk to the Antarctic and only when they where there they realized what had happened. The whale Makarena swam with fury to bring the girls home, but meanwhile the girls contaminated her with their smiles and from this moment Makarena started to smile. THE AUTHOR: Ricardo Mariño

He was born in Chivilcoty, province of Buenos Aires, and he lives in Buenos Aires for many years. He is writer and journalist. He published over thirty books for boys, among them Cuentos Ridículos, Recuerdo de Loscosmos, El Insoportable, Cinthia Scotch y La Guerra al Malón. He also received some important awards like Casa de las Amércas and the Konx Award. THE ILLUSTRADOR: Javier Gonzáles Burgos

He was born in Rosario in 1974, his love for movies and literature left traces in his works. The reading of books like Mi planta de naranja lima and the seeing of movie like The 400 blows emerged in the sensitivity of each one of his drawings, made on digital platform, without any previous draft or scanned draw.

HANDS IN THE PASTRY

SUMMARY: During the winter, while the grandmother makes fried cakes, the little girl looks and talks with her. The grandmother tells her mysteriously stories and with the pastry makes the animals the little girl asks her. AUTHOR: María Rosa Mó She was born in Buenos Aires. She published some children’s stories like Los pájaros de Joaquín, La regadera del sol y La escalera de Pascual. Others tales appeared in textbooks and journals. She also wrote Julieta en sueños that was published in Spain as a book-album accompanied with CD recorded by the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia. She likes to say that, first of all, she is a poet. Her published poetry books are: Tristes historias resucitadas, Ardores en puntillas y El guerrero. And something more: she had a very special grandmother who visited every year in the fields of Santa Fe. ILLUSTRATOR: María Jesús Alvarez She was born in 1971 in Rosario - Argentina - but actually she is living in Buenos Aires. She is a Graphic Designer and she studied Fine Arts at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts in the University of Rosario. At this moment she is working on my final thesis. She also have studies in History and took drawing and painting classes with Rodolfo Perassi and Julian Usandizaga, and courses on illustration, bookbinding, and animation with Rodolfo Pastor in Barcelona. She has experience in web-pages design and teaching. Now she is focused on the illustration in general but mainly for children since she has worked with the following Publishing houses: Edebé, La valijita, Santillana, Alfaguara, Aparicio Distributors Inc, Anab, Homosapiens, Puerto de Palos, Veredit, Revista First, Beglam, Revista Enseñar, and CDs of music for children. She also holds a membership of the Foro de Ilustradores of Buenos Aires - Argentina.

She mainly works with textures, colours and papers and she enjoys herself inventing characters of her stories.

A TALE WITH WINGS

Among her poems: Los vers.os de Bakelita y Versos que no muerden. She likes cats, and there is one in her house that goes visit her every morning and leaves in the afternoon. ILLUSTRATOR: Elena Torres She is an Argentine drawer and painter. She illustrated a lot books, she likes to work with the objects of reality in the way she see them, sometimes she gets courage and modifies them, but just a little. Elena illustrated stories like Betina, The time machine, El ratón Feroz volvió al ataque, Basta de Brujas, Las locas ganas de Imaginar.
