Parents & Friends of St Benedict’s School Autumn 2012 Newsletter Parents & Friends of St Benedict’s School - Meet the new committee members… The first AGM was held in September and all the committee positions were successfully filled. With a strong team of experienced and new members, lets, together make this a really successful year for St Benedict’s PFA fundraising. Here’s the committee…. Chair – Krissy Elliott “I guess as new chair of the PFA I ought to say a few words quickly... I'm a community project worker, looking after carers across the Mendip area, and shortly will be employed as the official carer support worker. So I meet a lot of different people every day. In a past life I was closely connected to the music industry in London as a journalist and general dogsbody, so I've done quite a bit of promotional work - but I'm always interested in other people's ideas and how we can get them out there, so anyone with any ideas for PFA events should throw them at me and we'll see how we make things happen! I find I'm often short of practical time but will attend most events.... I’m the slightly mad one with red in my hair and tattoos down my arm... Let's see if we can make this the best year ever for fun and fundraising!” Vice Chair - Debby Myatt “Hello, my name is Debby Myatt and I have the great pleasure of being Vice Chairman of St Benedict’s PFA. My daughter is Rhiannon in class 5JB. We are new to Glastonbury so I am looking forward to meeting new people and working with the committee, the school, the parents and of course the children to raise lots of money for our school!”

Treasurer - Elaine Dearling “For those of you who don’t know me I’m Hayden’s Mum – Hayden is in 5JB. I’ve been Treasurer of St Ben’s PFA for almost 7 years now and can always be found before

and after school either in the school office or running around the school. Most of you will know me as a Teaching Assistant at St John’s School – I’ve probably supported your child at some point or other over the years. I was asked to join the PFA because of my banking background – and I’ve helped out, or organised every PFA event since. I am immensely proud of what the PFA has achieved for the children and the school in my time as Treasurer – and I look forward to working with our new Committee over the next 2 years – very exciting times!” Secretary - Jo Manley “My name is Jo Manley and my daughter, Lucy started St Benedict’s in September. My son, James, will hopefully be starting next September. I attended the new parents evening and was so impressed by what the PFA had done in the past, that I felt now was the time to do my bit. Our children will spend many, hopefully happy years at St Bens and the money raised by the PFA can only improve that experience, generating lots of fun in the process! ” Vice Secretary - Rebecca Millard “Hi my name is Rebecca Millard and I have recently joined the PFA as Vice Secretary. I have 3 children. The eldest, Jacob is in year 4, his brother, Jesse has recently started St Johns and Toby the baby is just a year old. I work part time at an opticians in Street. The family have thoroughly enjoyed the events that the PFA have organised as fundraisers to enhance the children’s education. It would have been a shame to have lost these opportunities for the children, and this is what prompted me to put myself forward to help.”

In addition to the committee, we still need an army of volunteers throughout the year to help at events, run stalls and have some fun with your child/ren. We need you. Your help will play a vital role to the success of the PFA.

Are you any good at web design? The PFA would like to set up a website/web page and we need some help… Whilst the school has a website, the PFA does

not. We are looking for someone who could set up a site for us and maintain our web pages – could that be you? Please email joellawaller@hotmail.com

School Disco Success The first PFA event of the new school year was held last Friday and it was an amazing success. The children had a fantastic time. Not only did we have a lot of fun, we also raised lots of money for the school. Thank you to all who attended, the support was fantastic, and here’s to the next one in February!

ADVANCE NOTICE: St Benedict’s School, Christmas Fair

Speaking of Christmas, we will be holding our annual Christmas Fair in school on Friday 14th December from 3.15pm onwards in the school hall. There will be lots of gift ideas, including tea towels that have been designed by the children

More details will follow in the book bags nearer the date…… ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Fundraising Ideas The PFA are looking for lots of new and exciting ideas for events and ways to raise money for our school. For example getting a team together to do shifts for Glastonbury Festival? If you or your child/ren can think of any ideas we’d love to hear them. Whilst the aim of the PFA is to raise money for the school and ultimately the children, it also aims to build on the strong school community spirit and the link between home and school life. We will shortly be having our own PFA display board outside the office, your ideas can be left here and we will take them on board in our meetings – all welcome!
