10th December 2012 Dear Parents

Everyone in school is busy gearing up for the busiest, most enjoyable weeks of the school year. I hope you all will be able to join us for your child’s performance. I have included the dates below:

Year 4 production

‘The Supersonic Lamb’

Tuesday 11th December

Year 5 production

‘Nativity Rock’

Thursday 13th December

Year 6 production

‘Christmas Stars (The Xmas Factor)’ Monday 17th December

Year 3 production

‘It’s a party’

Wednesday 19th December

All the performance start at 6.30 pm. The children need to be at school at 6 pm, not before, to get dressed in their costumes. Please could all parents try to limit the number of adults attending to two per child. Some of our classes are much larger and the hall with the stage up can’t accommodate large numbers.

There will be a collection at the end of each performance for the community we support in Ethiopia. I don’t believe it is fair to charge parents to watch their own children but I also believe it is right at this time of year to remember those less fortunate than ourselves.

Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support in all the fundraising that happens in our school. I have been amazed by the generosity of both the children and parents in Headteacher: Mr C W Lewis BA our recent Mufti days.

Cutting of the Holy Thorn Christingle Service All parents are welcome to attend this unique Glastonbury event that will take place on Friday 14th December at 10.30am in St John’s Churchyard. Year 6 will represent our school. Coffee and biscuits will be available in the Church.

There will be a Christingle service at St Benedict’s Church on Saturday 15th December at 5 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Christmas Cards The post box is now available in the school foyer for the children to send each other cards. Please could you make sure that all cards are addressed with full names and class initial e.g. John Smith

Christmas Lunch

Wednesday 19th December

Your child has recently brought home a letter about the offer of A CHRISTMAS HOT DINNER FREE OF CHARGE (from a local benefactor) on Wednesday 19th December. All we need to know is if your child wishes to have a hot dinner and their choice of food. If your child would prefer to have their own packed lunch please let us know. All children, whether they are having a hot dinner or packed lunch, will eat in the school hall and will be given a Christmas cracker

If you do not already have the order form please collect one from the school reception. All orders should be returned to school by Wednesday 12th December.

Carol Service

We will be holding our annual Carol Service in St John’s Church on Thursday 20th December at 1.30 p.m. This service involves the whole school. Parents and friends are very welcome at this festive annual event. Christmas Parties

We shall be having our school Christmas parties on the last day of term – Friday 21st December. The children will be socialising both with their class and year group during their party, which will include playing party games and we will be providing the food and drink. Hot dinners will be served as usual on this day.

The children can wear their party clothes for the day. ‘Shining Branches’ - A Festival of Christmas Trees

St John’s Church will glow from the lights of 50 Christmas trees, each decorated to represent the life and work of a local organisation. The children of St Benedict’s school have worked really hard to help decorate our tree. If you get the chance try to pop in to have a look (open daily from now until Christmas Day 10.30 am onwards), it will be well worth the visit. Swimming Arrangements Please may I remind you of the swimming arrangements for next half term.

 Year 4 will swim on Tuesdays Tues 8th January –Tues 5th February  Year 5 will swim on Wednesdays Wed 9th January – Wed 6th February Please could any outstanding permission slips and swimming money be paid as soon as possible. Thank you.
