Freya in Year 5 got a wonderful surprise on Friday when she discovered that she had won the Glastonbury in Bloom competition prize for the best design in her age group. Representatives from the Glastonbury in Bloom team came in to Celebration Praise to award Freya with her amazing prize – a gift hamper from Dicketts. Freya also received a framed copy of her fantastic design. Keep an eye out for posters of Freya’s design which will soon be displayed around Glastonbury. Freya receives her prize from representatives of the Glastonbury in Bloom team.

The evening of Thursday 9th May was a memorable evening for two St. Benedict’s pupils as they were confirmed by Bishop Peter, the Bishop of Bath and Wells. The ceremony took place at Meare Church and was a significant spiritual milestone for Hannah Jones and Taylor Gutteridge (and also former pupil Michael Jones). We send them all our congratulations and wish them well as they continue their faith journey.

Our Year 6s have been working hard and now it’s finally arrived… SATs WEEK is here. As a school, we want to send you all a massive ‘GOOD LUCK’ message. Thank you for all the hard work you’ve put in – do your best and we’ll be really proud of you! As ever, we approach SATs as a whole school team, and remind children in other year groups to be mindful of the fact that Year 6 have tests and need quiet conditions and tolerance in what can be a stressful time. Year 6, please make sure you report to the Bee Hive each day at 8:10am for your SATs breakfast! Follow the St. Ben’s Basics guide to SATs Success: 1. Get plenty of SLEEP over the weekend, 2. Make sure you eat well – a balanced diet including brain food like fruit and slow-release energy foods like oats, EAT BREAKFAST! 3. DRINK plenty of water to stay hydrated, 4. BE CONFIDENT! You have worked hard, so you’ve got nothing to fear. 5. SMILE! Why not enjoy it? It’s going to happen anyway!

Please bring in any clothes, pairs of shoes and … Whatever we collect gets weighed and the school gets paid per kg. Why not have a spring clearout and bring any recyclables to school?!

Then you could be just the person we need! We are looking for parent governors to join our enthusiastic governing body. No previous expertise or experience necessary. If you might be interested, why not call in for more information.

Parents invited to Celebration Praise We would like you to feel as welcome as possible at St. Benedict’s and we thought it would be good to invite you in to Celebration Praise on Friday at 10:30am if your child is going to be awarded a Head Teacher’s or Teacher’s Certificate (or any other significant awards/prizes). We will let you know by 3:15pm on a Thursday. We are aware that some parents can’t attend due to work/other commitments, but please feel free to send someone else in your place.

Stonehenge Visit Years 3 and 4 visited Stonehenge last week, dodging showers and realising how cold people must have been in the Neolithic and Bronze Age. They had a tour of the stones and learned about how Stonehenge was built and how it is aligned to the rising sun. They also walked out to one of the burial mounds and learned about the amazing things that were found by archaeologists in Bronze Age graves. In the museum, they saw lots of artefacts and a reconstruction of the face of a Neolithic man. Next they visited the Neolithic round houses that were full of the tools and belongings that people would have had. There was even a fire! They were surprised how similar their possessions were to ours. Best of all, they got to try and move a Sarsen stone – most of us would have needed 99 more people to help!

thank you

A huge to parents who have got the message and changed their habits. We are grateful to all parents who are parking sensibly and not placing children’s lives in danger. Please continue this, as the beginning and end of school is feeling much safer.
