excellent: Extremely good, outstanding. “That trip to Bristol was excellent!”
YEAR 6 PLAYED BLIND FOOTBALL WITH THE LIONS by Tamara and Valentino Blind football was very exiting but very challenging at the same time. At first, we got to use are hearing to go to different places around the playground. Then we had a friend guide us threw out the play equipment. After that we played with footballs with a bell inside for people who are blind and need to use their hearing to help them. Mrs Brown quotes that it was a very good experience for the children.
Last week saw some of the worst October weather I can remember, yet Year 6 braved the elements to complete Day 1 of their Bikeability Cycling awareness course. The team running the programme decided it was not safe to go on the roads to complete Day 2, so this has been rearranged for Tuesday 22nd October. Well done to everyone involved and a huge thank you to Miss Mott and Mr Derbidge for helping.
Pupils in Year 5 are taking part in a new programme designed to give our children a taste of what the role of Police Officer entails. Run by Officer Katie Moyse and other members of the local team and funded by the Town Council, their first event was yesterday’s Y Don’t U day at Tor Leisure at which our eager volunteers ran a road safety stall.

St. Benedict’s pupils have been given the wonderful opportunity of joining musician Johnny Mars in an incredible singing project. Run by the Glastonbury Youth Council, the project sees Johnny (who has played with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Bananarama) work with children of all ages in our local community for six sessions before creating a ‘final presentation piece’. The workshops will take place on Monday evenings (excluding half term) from 4 – 5:30pm at the Town Hall. Mrs Coton is keen to part of the project, so Choir Club will not happen for the duration of the project. Please contact the school if you wish to sign your child up for this fantastic local community project.
St. Benedict’s got the new football season off to a start with a trip to Strode for the Area Schools’ Tournament. Facing some impressive sides, the team played well, finishing 6th. This was a great opportunity for players to warm up as the league season starts this week with our fixture against Elmhurst tomorrow. We are also very excited to have entered a team into the Girls’ Football league this year. Their first game is on Thursday.
STARS OF THE WEEK Amy in Year 4 for reaching Level 7 at swimming, Erin in Year 5 for being star of the week at her Cinderella Production Club and Sam in Year 6 for his Green Blue Peter badge for great eco work. Well done all!
