The first ever BenFest was a huge triumph as revellers flooded in for an evening of fabulous entertainment raising over £2110.01 in the process! See full report on Page 2… for more photos see our website…
– cont’d from front page… Last Friday night, hordes of party-goers relished the change in weather to enjoy an amazing lineup, including Glee Club, Talent Show class winners, Alice Coton, Mark Silver, Josh Faulkner, our very own Becky Grenter and headliners, Lazy Daze. As well as the outstanding musical entertainment, Year 6 pupils were on hand to run stalls, ranging from ‘Beat the Keeper’ to ‘Guess the number of Sweets in the jar’. Add in a gigantic bouncy slide, tasty treats including ‘Benburgers’ and Phillipino cuisine, Candy Floss and ice-creams, and it’s clear to see why a great night was had by all. The bar was a big hit too, with gin going down very well! As if this wasn’t enough, there were a few surprises in store with a sudden Flashmob breaking out and the appearance of Professor Limerick, who created personalised limericks in record time! In addition, the cake auction was a huge hit, with a mind-blowing £23 bid for one cake alone - the award-winning fairy glade cake (thank you to all cake makers – your creations were stunning!). Massive thanks to everyone that performed and to all those who came along and special thanks to all the pupils of Year 6, staff, parents and friends that helped out on the night (a big thank you to Angela Smith and David Reakes for adding creative sparkle to proceedings) and leading up to the event. The PTFA were delighted with the evening having worked incredibly hard to make it happen. Finally, I would like to name-check four people without whom BenFest could not have happened: The core of our PTFA, Trudi Allen, Tina Lawford and Chair Sharon Tomsett have worked tirelessly since before Christmas to ensure this would be an evening to remember – HUGE thanks to them. Also, enormous thanks to Becky Grenter; as well as performing and mentoring Glee Club, she organised the running order and was MC for the evening. It’s a little early to start planning next year, but the overwhelming feeling was that we’d love to see another BenFest and there is even some talk of making it an overnight event, with camping pitches up for grabs and a tasty breakfast in the morning! ENJOY BENFEST? THINK WE COULD ADD SOMETHING? Give us your feedback – come in and tell us how you could help next year – we’d love a few more pairs of hands to share the PTFA load…
Like what you heard at BenFest? Check out Josh Faulkner on Spotify or buy his CD from our office. Love the mellow, folky sound of Lazy Daze? CDs available on request – It’s my CD of choice in the car at the moment!
