We are incredibly proud of our Year 6s who last week tackled SATs week with great positivity. Many of the children were a little anxious leading up to the week, but they all agreed on Friday, as they sat down to their celebratory Friday fry-up, that the week had not been so bad after all, with Oscar even claiming that it had been his favourite week of the year! Every morning, the tireless Year 6 team of staff turned up with huge smiles and words of encouragement as they dished out a range of breakfast options to the Year 6s. We also called upon governors to help with invigilation of the tests – areal team effort. Thank you to all the adults involved, especially Mrs Allen, Miss Hopkins, Miss Mott and Mrs Newbury for their brilliant breakfasts. Finally, a huge WELL DONE to all the children, you could not have tried harder and we are very proud of you all.

Year 5 girls from St. Benedict’s enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of cricket last Wednesday, when they visited Shapwick Cricket Club to take part in a festival involving two other schools. As well as enjoying the glorious sunshine, the girls excelled on the pitch with many saying they would love to play more cricket in the future.

Last week we reported that St. Benedict’s pupils had been confirmed on Thursday 9th May, but we left one pupil off our list, so huge apologies and massive congratulations to Erin Derbidge, who was also confirmed at Meare Church that evening. Here’s Erin showing how happy she is about her confirmation…

The Little Princess fundraising Hair comes in all textures, colours and styles and we all take ours for granted (even when it's disappearing fast!), but some children going through cancer treatment lose their hair completely and this can really affect their selfesteem. Tianna in Year 4 knows someone going through this and she has decided to help.

In aid of The Little Princess Trust, Tianna is having 8 inches lopped off her beautiful hair on 5th July at Fox's Hair and Beauty. Her hair will go towards making wigs for children going through chemotherapy and could transform these children's lives. We at St. Benedict's love the fact that Tianna is doing her bit to help others and will send round a fund-raising tin nearer the time. Meanwhile, if you would like to help Tianna raise money for this most worthy cause, please go to: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tiannamar Tianna's target is £200, so every pound or two will help her towards her goal.

Every pupil took home a questionnaire for their parents/carers last Monday and we have had some very valuable feedback already, but most parents haven’t completed and returned theirs. This is a really valuable way for you to have your say about what is happening at St. Benedict’s. I would be incredibly grateful if you would take the time to complete and send back yours. If you haven’t got a copy, please ask at the office. The pupils all completed their own questionnaires last week, so don’t miss your chance! Between us, we can make St. Benedict’s an even better place to enjoy learning. Thanks in advance.

TALENT SHOW WEEK – Mon 20th – Thurs 24th May This week sees our very own Talent Shows – class heats will happen throughout the week so make sure you’re practising! Finals will be on Thursday afternoon (24th May). Practice makes perfect!

PUPIL PREMIUM GRANT – HELPING YOUR CHILD, HELPING YOU AND HELPING THE SCHOOL From September, all children in receipt of Pupil Premium will attend all trips for half price. We estimate this is a saving of £200 over four years at school. In addition they may be entitled to Free School Meals (£2.50 a day = approx. £1560 over four years) as well as access to free school uniform and other opportunities and savings. It’s no exaggeration to say that receiving the Pupil Premium grant could save you up to £2000 over your child’s time at St. Benedict’s!! If you think you may be eligible, or wish to find out more, please ask Mr Ranger or the office for more details.

The Mark Silver BenFest Supergroup Do you play an instrument or have a great voice but have no band? Here’s your chance to shine! St. Ben’s parent and local legend Mark Silver is looking to put together a ‘SuperGroup’ for BenFest – please contact him on 07817 727725 if you might be interested. Class, team & leavers’ photographs The photographer will be in school this Thursday (23rd May) to take class, team and leavers’ photographs. Please remember to have your PE kit in school for any sports team photos.

Please let us know if you do not want your child to be photographed.

thank you

A huge to parents who have got the message and changed their habits. We are grateful to all parents who are parking sensibly and not placing children’s lives in danger. Please continue this, as the beginning and end of school is feeling much safer. On this note, would you please ensure your children, whether St. Benedict’s age or younger, are acting appropriately around the traffic in the car park; parents have reported seeing children running around parked cars! Let’s give a clear message to all our children that they need to be vigilant and sensible around cars and other vehicles.

Parents invited to Celebration Praise It was great to see so many Mums, Dads and carers attending Celebration Praise last Friday – thanks to everyone who made it! If your child is going to be awarded a Head Teacher’s or Teacher’s Certificate (or any other significant awards/prizes) we will let you know by 3:15pm on a Thursday. We are aware that some parents can’t attend due to work/other commitments, but please feel free to send someone else in your place.

Menus Lunch orders are due in tomorrow for the next 3 weeks. The menu and payment form is available on the school website: http://stbenedictsjuniorschoolglastonbury.org/ Even if your child is entitled to free school meals you must complete an order form - without an order form your child cannot be catered for during this 3 week period.

RECYCLE AND RAISE MONEY FOR ST. BEN’S – IT’S A WIN-WIN! You have probably seen our newest arrival at the front of school – it’s our very own recycling unit. Please bring in wearable clothes, paired shoes, handbags & belts. Whatever we collect gets weighed and the school gets paid per kg. Why not have a spring clearout and bring any recyclables to school?!

Year 5 cake sale - Friday 24th May Please help make this event a success by baking or bringing cakes, biscuits etc. to sell and let friends and family know about the cake sale.

Then you could be just the person we need! We are looking for parent governors to join our enthusiastic governing body. No previous expertise or experience necessary. If you might be interested, why not call in for more information.

Tomorrow (Tues 21st May), there’s a meeting about BENFEST, our main summer fund-raiser which is fast approaching. The meeting starts at 2:30pm - all offers of help very welcome – please come along.

If you are able to help on the day please give your name to the ladies in the school office or let your child’s class teacher know.

Your support is very much appreciated.
