‘POETREE’ COMPETITION

On Friday 5th April, parents joined our Celebration Praise to watch a very special assembly – it was the awards’ ceremony for our Science Creature Homework competition, a challenge set by Mrs Ford as part of our recent Science Week. Prizes included best overall design, best fact-file and best powerpoint and the standards were incredibly high. Staff and parents of St. Benedict’s pupils were amazed at the level of detail in the designs and, as one of the judges, I have to confess that some of the beasts gave me sleepless nights! Well done to everyone that took part, to all our prizewinners and to our overall winner, Freya, from Year 5, whose attention to detail and phenomenal art-work was outstanding. Thanks again to Mrs Ford, for taking the time to organise and run the competition and for inspiring our pupils with her enthusiasm for Science.

Pupils at St. Benedict’s showed off their fantastic poetry skills as record numbers of them entered this year’s Somerset Literacy Network poetry competition. The theme this year is ‘Trees’ and both Year 3 and Year 6 spent afternoons at the Abbey, gaining inspiration from the array of fantastic trees that grace the grounds. With the closing date in late April, we wait with bated breath to see if we have any winners in our midst.

LEAVING AND JOINING The end of last term saw the departure of three highly-valued members of our team: PPA teacher, Mrs Meigh, left us after two years, with Lunchtime Assistant, Mrs Abbiss also off to pastures new. Finally, after sixteen years at St. Benedict’s, TA, Mrs Mulready, has called time on her school career, and is hoping to find the time to travel, with a trip to New Zealand and Australia on the horizon. Starting in April will be TA, Miss Murray, and PPA teacher, Mrs Holt, who are both popular figures at St. Benedict’s already – I know you’ll join me in thanking our departing staff for their hard work and wishing our new team members a warm WELCOME!
