Monday 3rd June 2019 Please see our PTFA Facebook Page Contact school: sch.164@educ.somerset.gov.uk Website: https://stbenedictsjuniorschoolglastonbury.org/ Quote of the week: “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, the man who never reads lives only one.” George RR Martin

As part of our commitment to educating our pupils about the ecological issues facing the planet, St. Benedict’s was delighted to welcome the Commotion in the Ocean theatre production to Glastonbury. Although the delivery was humorous, the hard-hitting message was clear to all – STOP POLLUTING OUR WORLD! Year 4 and 6 enjoyed workshops on Monday 20th May and the whole school enjoyed two theatre performances on Friday 24th May. The show included the unique perspective of many of the sea creatures who have to deal with the waste that humans don’t recycle – especially plastics. Children and staff alike enjoyed the performance and left the Hall to ponder how we can all do more to improve our environment.

Pupils of St. Benedict’s showed off their skills in the week before half term as each class held a talent show, with the winners going through to the Grand Final on Thursday 23rd May. The final saw a jawdropping afternoon of variety as magicians and musicians took on impressionists and gymnasts. BC News was on hand to bring you the results… The finals of St. Benedict’s Got Talent was on Thursday 23rd May and ten acts went head-to-head to win a slot at BenFest. Here are the results… In 1st place with their fantastic singing skills were ‘The Spotlight Sisters’ (Roxanne and Savannah), 2nd place went to ‘The Flexibles’, a gymnastic crew from Year 3, featuring Felicity, Erin and India, And in 3rd place with his impressive guitar skills, was Toby from Year 5. The standard was so good that Mr Ranger has decided to offer a BenFest slot to all the finalists. Well done to everyone that took part – you really entertained us! BC News reporting.

She has also given the school a limited number of FREE adult tickets for the mindfulness session from 2:30 – 5:30pm (regular cost £25 per person). thank you

A huge to parents who have got the message and changed their habits. We are grateful to all parents who are parking sensibly and not placing children’s lives in danger. Please continue this, as the beginning and end of school is feeling much safer. On this note, would you please ensure your children, whether St. Benedict’s age or younger, are acting appropriately around the traffic in the car park; parents have reported seeing children running around parked cars! Let’s give a clear message to all our children that they need to be vigilant and sensible around cars and other vehicles.

PUPIL PREMIUM GRANT – HELPING YOUR CHILD, HELPING YOU AND HELPING THE SCHOOL From September, all children in receipt of Pupil Premium will attend all trips for half price. We estimate this is a saving of £200 over four years at school. In addition they may be entitled to Free School Meals (£2.50 a day = approx. £1560 over four years) as well as access to free school uniform and other opportunities and savings. It’s no exaggeration to say that receiving the Pupil Premium grant could save you up to £2000 over your child’s time at St. Benedict’s!! If you think you may be eligible, or wish to find out more, please ask Mr Ranger or the office for more details.
