Dream, Believe, Achieve.
Newsletter 6 15th October 2018 Dear Mums, Dads & Carers, More Drama for the Children of St. Ben’s Fifteen lucky pupils and two lucky staff members got to visit the Brewhouse Theatre last Friday to watch a wonderful production of ‘The Fire Catcher’. Starring our very own celebrity parents David Reakes and Angela Smith, it was an engaging and interactive tale of how Coyote and her friends stole fire from the hideous fire demon. Children and staff alike, as well as the rest of the packed theatre, were mesmerised from beginning to end as they all relished the humorous antics of the various animal character. The fifteen pupils were the winners of our ‘Awful Relative’ homework competition. Huge congratulations not only to the winners, but to everyone who took part – the standard was very high and we can only hope that these awful relatives aren’t based too closely on their nearest and dearest! Watch out for more competitions soon… Reminder - Harvest Festival tomorrow at 2 p.m. You are most welcome to join us tomorrow afternoon (16th October) for our Harvest Festival in St Benedict’s Church. Please make a donation if you can. Our causes this year are:
Monetary donations please for the Community Learning Partnership fund for improved mental health that local schools are contributing to.
Glastonbury Foodbank - The food bank prepares parcels and delivers them to individuals in Glastonbury and the surrounding areas who are in crisis. The charity often relies upon donations at this time of year to last through leaner times therefore they ask that donated items are in date and preferably with long dates to
give them the best flexibility. Items such as those listed below are very much appreciated: Tinned Fruit Tinned Vegetables Tinned Meat Tinned Sponge Pudding Tinned Rice pudding or similar Tinned and packet soup (e.g.cup a soup) Sugar large and small Biscuits Fruit juice carton Squash Coffee Tea Jam Marmalade Peanut butter Pasta Sauce Breakfast Cereal Renowned author to visit St Benedict’s this Thursday! This Thursday we will be visited by renowned author, Joffre White, who will be inspiring our pupils as he celebrates the world of reading and fiction. Joffre, author of the Frog series of books will be conducting a whole school assembly after he carries out workshops with Spider Class and Tortoise Class. His books will be for sale in the afternoon – please preorder these using the separate form sent home today. Fundraising – many hands make light work… At our PTFA AGM last Wednesday we confirmed that our target is to raise enough money for a new minibus. This will be over £20,000, so we all need to rally round to raise as much as we can together. Without a minibus our pupils will miss out on lots of important events such as sports, local visits and swimming, and the minibus is also used to collect many pupils each morning. We have ear-marked three main events this term which we would love your help with: 1. School Disco – this Friday, 19th October, 6 – 8pm 2. The Frost Fair – Saturday 24th November between 10am and 7pm (we will divide this time into 2-hour slots – why not sign up with a friend!), 3. The Christmas Fair – Friday 14th December (help setting up in the few days before and help on the night – 2:30 – 5:30). In addition to this we will be having a hot chocolate and snack sale after school on the last day of this half term (Friday 26th October). Any help would be most welcome. Mufti Day – Friday 19th October At the end of the week we will be holding a mufti day when the children may wear non uniform and bring in a suggested voluntary donation of £1. All money collected will go directly to the Community Learning Partnership fund for improved mental health. ‘Spooky’ disco This Friday also sees the first of our termly fundraising discos, to be held in the school hall from 6 – 8 p.m. The theme is ‘Spooky/Magical’ so we hope to see lots of seasonal costumes. Tickets are on sale in the playground at the start and end of the school day - £2.50 per child (to include 1 fizzy drink and unlimited squash). As usual, all children need to come to the front doors to enter the disco. At 8pm, lower school pupils (Year 3 & 4) are to be
picked up from the back doors and upper school (Year 5 & 6) from the front. If you have children in both categories, please pick up from front. If any parents would like to help, please let us know... Year 6 parents – a reminder to sign up your child for secondary school! I know many of you have been visiting schools recently in an attempt to clarify where your child would like to go after St. Benedict’s.
