Dream, Believe, Achieve. Newsletter 11 26th November 2018 Dear Mums, Dads & Carers, Frost Fair Fun Massive thanks to our fantastic PTFA for running the St. Benedict's burgers, hotdogs and hot drinks stall at Saturday's Frost Fair - even the rain could not subdue their great spirits! It was wonderful to see a mixture of parents, TAs, teachers and friends helping to run the stall which made over ÂŁ300. Thanks go out to all the following who generously gave their time to help on Saturday: Angela Smith, Rachel Tidball, Jane Brown and Allan Brown, Piers Ranger, Mimi Kirby, Jackie Ford, Luna Silver, Sara Bennett, Erzsebet Fisher and Rachel Dredd. And a special THANK YOU to Trudi Allen (and Tamsin) and Tina Lawford (and their long-suffering husbands!) who organised the stall and spent the whole day running it. Monday 19th November St. Ben's ease past Walton: St. Ben's 2 Walton 0 On a chilly Monday night at Strode, St. Benedict's boys' football team lit up a dark evening with some electric play, passing their way through a stubborn Walton team. The first goal came after a cagey opening, when one of the Walton defenders leapt up and handled the ball. The resulting penalty was despatched by Louie Keetch, who was as cool as a cucumber. After an equally tight second half, Keetch broke free again and slotted past the ailing Walton keeper to round off an excellent St. Benedict's performance. Between the goals, St. Benedict's defence had proved as solid as a rockcake, with Beren Roberts and Banjo Holt providing an impassable barrier. Midfield duo, Devran Hopkins and Toby Carter, toyed with the opposition, like cats with one of those things on a stick, whilst debutantes Darsh Patel

and Harry Bailey slotted beautifully into the well-oiled machine. Such was the dominance of the outfield players, that keeper Max Edwards had a pleasantly quiet evening. Huge thanks to Mr Shaw for driving the minibus. Next Monday sees the final match of the season, a tough assignment against league leaders Elmhurst. Chess result A young St Ben's team of ten players travelled to Wells Cathedral School on Thursday and lost a very competitive match by 12 points to 8. All the players acquitted themselves well and were a credit to the school. Special congratulations go to team captain and Board 1, Caleb Redman, who won both his matches, as did Filip Niewski and Venus Sander-Jackson.
