Cat class to work with Bishop Ruth On Thursday morning, Cat Class will be joining Bishop Ruth of Taunton at the Scrapstore, where they will have fun creating art from recycled scrap. St. Ben's take on Millfield Tomorrow St. Benedict's take two football teams to mighty Millfield with hopes being high that they can entertain the fans and work hard as a group to get the right result. The squad are looking forward to the games and the tasty post-match dinner. We'll update you on their progress next week. E-safety Parent workshop As part of our ICT curriculum, we have an e-safety advisor, Julia Briggs, coming to school this Wednesday (6th February) to work with the children. Julia is a county advisor on e-safety who works with schools around Somerset. She will also be running a Parent Workshop from 2.30 – 3.15pm to talk to parents about e-safety at home, in particular the use of gaming. The workshop will cover issues around:
When, where and for how long children should game. Choosing appropriate games. Who they are gaming with. Sharing personal information while gaming. Appropriate behaviour while gaming.
The session is free and can be very useful for parents in helping to identify and set appropriate boundaries, as well as being aware of potential dangers around computer gaming. Your child may attend the workshop with you if you would like to include them in the discussion around gaming in the home. If you would like to attend, please let the school office or your child’s class teacher know. Cross Country Race at Stratton on the Fosse Last Tuesday, a group of Year 3 and 4 children braved the freezing elements to take part in our third Cross country race of the season. We travelled by mini-bus to Downside School in Stratton on the Fosse, where the weather was a rather cold -10 c. The children were superb, running in some of the worst mud I have seen, and all with smiles on their faces. The race was made

even more impressive by the addition of snow – some of the biggest flakes ever! So the staff at St Ben’s would like to congratulate the team on a job well done. Forest School As I am sure many of you have noticed we have had an addition to the tranquillity garden in the form of an Outside classroom. This has become the base for the St Benedict’s Forest School area. Throughout the year, each year group will have the opportunity to do some Forest School Activities. Forest school and outside learning is a fantastic way for children to develop a love for nature, improve personal and social skills and to work upon self-esteem. Moving forward, we would like to develop the area further and are considering some exciting possibilities to include a mud kitchen, the planting of more trees and eventually install a pizza oven and fire pit. We would like to ask for your help in donating any of the following unwanted/unused items: Untreated wood particularly if you have felled any trees Old net curtains Bamboo poles We would like to create a Mud kitchen similar to the picture below: To create this we would very much welcome donations of: Old pots and pans – metal (please no glass) An old kitchen sink Wooden pallets Old children’s wooden play kitchens Old wooden/stainless steel kitchen utensils Old plastic/ stainless steel plates /bowls/cups/ baking trays (Please no glass or porcelain) Similarly, if you or anyone you know is handy with a saw and a hammer who would like to help us construct the Mud Kitchen we would be very grateful! Thank you in advance for all of your support and help with this project. I am sure you will agree that this will be a fabulous addition to our Forest School area.
