Rationale for spending in financial year 2017/8 The rationale for allocating Pupil Premium Grant this year has been informed by the following:
data from last year’s impact report, the identification of this year’s current cohort needs as informed by class teachers, best practice as suggested by Sutton Trust, current research, ongoing discussion with parents and carers.
Flexible, targeted support will be put in place to address academic need across all year groups, ensuring that all pupil premium pupils have access to improve outcomes within identified areas of learning (with a focus on the school’s priority area - Maths. This can be both in the short and the longer term. Social, emotional, behavioural data shows that a number of vulnerable pupils need support with pastoral needs and this will be targeted this year.
Specific areas to target:
KS2 pupils not on track to make end of Y6 targets as informed by data (and Pupil Progress Meetings),
Identified pupils across the school who are below ARE expectations to be tracked/ supported in order to ensure their progress remains comparable with peers/national expectations,
Pupil Premium pupils with SEN: our Year 6 contains a number of pupils in receipt of PPG who also have SEN. This provides an extra layer of challenge. SEND pupils are focused on in Pupil Progress Meetings.
2017/18 Impact Review We maintain a relentless focus on Pupil Premium children by ensuring that they are focused on in SLT meetings, in lesson observations and work scrutinies and in Pupil Progress Meetings. Every teacher has a strong awareness of their Pupil Premium pupils and what they are doing to ‘narrow the gap’ for these children, whether it be through academic interventions, access to appropriate nurture opportunities or other identified opportunities (such as access to sport or music) in which the pupils would otherwise be unable to participate. This year, such opportunities include our participation in the Back on Track horse-riding programme, as well as access to violin lessons and piano lessons. As a school we have continued to promote our ELLi animal ‘learning to learn’ system in all classes; research shows that improving pupils meta-cognitive skills is one of the most effective routes to academic success and implementing the ELLi system has improved the resilience levels of Pupil Premium children.
2018 KS2 SATs data: 2018 Reading SATs (PPG pupils) PP (including SEND) – 65% PP (excluding SEND) – 77% All pupils in cohort – 72%
2018 Writing (PPG pupils) PP (including SEND) – 77% PP (excluding SEND) – 85% All pupils in cohort – 86%
2018 Maths SATs (PPG pupils) PP (including SEND) – 59% PP (excluding SEND) – 69% All pupils in cohort – 66%
It is pleasing that pupils in receipt of PPG (but without SEN) have outperformed non-PP pupils in in Reading and Maths and are in line with non-PP pupils in Writing. It is clear from this data that pupils in receipt of PPG who also have SEN are a group that needs extra focus.
Looking forward… As we move into the 2018-19 academic year, we aim to keep a close focus on the following areas:
Addressing barriers to learning, Continuing to improve the monitoring of PP children, Continuing to target attendance and punctuality levels of children in receipt of PPG, Placing an extra focus on pupils in receipt of PPG who also have SEN, Offering financial support to diminish the difference, Addressing pupils’ social and emotional needs, Encouraging parental engagement in school.
