A BELIEVING DREAMER AND CREATOR By Yudith Quant
How were your first in North America? My first visit to New York was in 1981. I had received first prize award for my art piece in the Salon of Young Artists “Filiberto Cuevas”,. This trip to New York marked my very first vacation since working for the company SAVE as an outdoor advertising art director. In addition, I got the opportunity to reunite with close artistic friends such as Henry Bermudez and Irma Parra, who back then were living in Queens. To say the least, I am completely and utterly in love with New York and it’s lifestyle, Manhattan in particular is my adoration. Fast forward 10 years and my desire to contact galleries and museums to exhibit continues, and the search for new horizons as well. Being in New York, I had the chance to meet with art dealer Jose Antonio Hands, through a connection with my dear friend Henry who I Previously mentioned and also some other honorable people such as Erick Markus and his wife Libia Markus who at the moment we’re opening an art gallery in Florida. All of this led to my coming to Miami. At first, it was a solo trip, just myself, for a year that is. After the year, my wife Maria and our three children at the moment Endmariz, Maximiliano & Victoria came along. My intention of staying in Miami, Florida was to work as means to promote the Venezuelan Talent in Art, work for the magazine Texturas Arte Contemporáneo and the full projection and execution of my work. With that being said, I started to organize several exhibitions. Such as, the Gallery of the Consulate of Venezuela and my first solo exhibition with Arquideco Gallery. 20 years later I continued to paint and although I’d love to share more it will be for another interview due to the lengthiness. Thank You.
YOUR RECENT WORK: SIGNALXTURES By Lic Cynthia Revilla
The beginning of a huge change From a great friend, the collector Ricardo Rosales Sr., he learned that "the only constant in life is change", and it is the constant change that is evident in his current work. One day when returning to his workshop, and studying all his creative process from his beginnings until then, the artist observed that abstract expressionism was present in all his work as a constant, but enclosed. This is how he identified the enormous influence of this important movement in his creative process. Since 2010 and after 8 years, having suffered a new deep transformation, Edgar GutiĂŠrrez did not present a new facet of his work and his talent, this time more abstract and expressive than figurative. In this opportunity, Edgar GutiĂŠrrez, presents a new series of works, which he has titled "Signalxtures" Signal + Textures), where he makes use of free, gestural and spontaneous painting, giving relevance to the quality of the surface, texture, the stroke and the brushstroke. In his current work he returns to using large canvases, adopting a new approach to the space in which all parts of the canvas are part of the work. He takes advantage of the "accidents" that occurred during the printing process, and he exalts the act of painting, expressing his emotions directly on the canvas.
