Subject Sessions This day will give you the opportunity to find out more about your chosen programme and meet tutors and current students from the Department you will be studying in. The subject taster sessions have been designed to give you a hands-on experience of your chosen course. These sessions are for applicants only
Department of Sport and Physical Activity Coach Education
In a session relevant to both the Community coaching and High Performance coaching pathways you will use specialist IT facilities to conduct a performance analysis. Physical Education and School Sport
In this session you will work in groups and take part in three practical activities which comprise team building, orienteering and games making. You will have an opportunity to use the gym facilities and have some fun. Sport and Exercise Science
This session allows you to work in the sports laboratories. Working in groups you will take part in three separate practical activities.
Sports Studies Sports Development
In this session you will have the opportunity to participate in a topical debate on key issues in sport for example ‘Drugs in Sport’. Sports Therapy
In this interactive taster you will participate in five activities which will demonstrate a rehabilitation class, core stability session, electrotherapy, massage and clinic work.

Department of Psychology Educational Psychology
This session will examine what Educational Psychology involves, exploring the concept of attentional bias and how it may be related to exam performance. Psychology
This session will explore the concept of moral reasoning from a theoretical (developmental) perspective. How does our understanding of moral reasoning help to inform decisions within society (e.g. age of criminal responsibility). Sport and Exercise Psychology
During this session you will consider the role that psychological science plays in optimising sporting performance, as well as understanding exercise behaviours.

Department of Law and Criminology Criminology and Criminal Justice
Should the punishment fit the crime? This session will explore the meaning of the phrase ‘the punishment should fit the crime’. What would a system in which the ‘punishment fitted the crime’ actually look like? And what might the alternatives be? You will consider whether it is a workable idea during this session. Law
This taster session will be delivered by lecturers and current students within the Law department and will discuss law issues, for example ‘Celebrities and the law’. This session finishes with seminar group activity.
Department of Social Sciences Childhood and Youth Studies Early Childhood Studies
In this session you will be encouraged to think about how children and young people interact with the wider cultural world and attribute your own meaning and value to an item of popular culture. Consider how children and young people value a mobile phone as being important to them? How and why has it has attained its importance and what link does that have to the wider economic, social, political and cultural world? This session will also explore when children are allowed, by law, to participate in society. Sociology
Sociology and Personal Life Sociologists have been interested in the family since the beginnings of the discipline. This session will explore some of the cultural practices of families in western societies including: emotions, love and commitment, personal connections, possessions, things and rationality and the significance of memory.

The Faculty of Health and Social Care Child Health and Wellbeing
What are the factors that affect children being able to meet their full developmental potential? This session will allow you to work with current Child Health and Wellbeing students who will deliver a short introduction on the meaning of development in its widest sense. The whole group will explore the main factors that can affect the development of children both positively and negatively. Health and Social Wellbeing
The social determinants of health and social care provision In this session you will discuss political influences and policy making practice in health and social care, gain an understanding of social inequalities and their impact on health outcomes and access to services. This session will conclude with a debate on the association between policy and health determinants. Nutrition and Health
Functional Foods – what is their use in nutrition? In this session you will work in small groups, along with current Nutrition and Health students, looking at the evidence behind functional foods in the UK. In this session you will examine a range of examples of different types of functional foods – looking at the food labels, cost, accessibility and use. You will have the chance to taste samples of functional foods and ‘rank’ them on their taste and acceptability.

By rail from Liverpool Central to Ormskirk station on Merseyrail's Northern Line or Preston to Ormskirk station on Northern Rail.
The Edge Link bus service is a fast, cheap and reliable way to get to the campus from Ormskirk Bus Station. During term-time this service runs every 15 minutes, 8.05am – 5.50pm, Monday-Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) and 8.05am – 5.50pm on Saturdays.
