Before you arrive
Money Matters Now is the time to make sure that all of your loans and grants are in place for your studies. This will ensure that you receive your funding on time and your transition to University life runs smoothly.
Applying for student finance If you have not yet applied for student finance, you should get in touch with the appropriate funding body. Eligible full-time undergraduate and PGCE students can apply for support with tuition fees and the cost of living during their time at university. Go to gov.uk/student-finance to apply. Assessment If you have already completed your application, you should receive an assessment of the funding available for you. This can take up to 8 weeks to be processed. If you have yet to receive your assessment, make sure that you check on the progress of your application as soon as possible.
Return your Declaration If you applied online, you will receive a Declaration form in the post. You need to return your signed Declaration form as soon as possible in order to make sure your funding is released.

Check your details Once you have received your financial notification, you should check that all of your details are correct. This includes:

the University you will be studying at the course you will be studying the tuition fee for your course
Inform your Student Finance body of any changes as soon as possible to avoid delays in releasing your funding.
When will I receive my funding? You need to complete your enrolment to release your student funding. Once you have enrolled, it can take up to five working days for the money to arrive in your account or longer if you applied for funding late.
Make sure that you bring all paperwork and your Student Finance login details with you so that any problems can be resolved as quickly as possible. Scholarships If you are eligible for an Edge Hill Scholarship or a National Scholarship, you will be contacted directly with further information.

Check your Enrolment timetable Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning of the year to become a member of the University, activate your IT/Library account and benefit from all its services.
Your enrolment timetable is available now at edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted. Just select your course from the drop-down menu and click on ‘Enrolment’ to view your timetable.
There’s no need to wait until you arrive to start meeting your fellow Edge Hill students.
Undergraduate students can log into our exclusive Talking Edge applicant forum at community.think.edgehill.ac.uk. You can use the username and password you used for your THINK Edge Hill applicant portal to log in.

Confirm your accommodation If you have received a place in our on-campus halls of residence, there are a few things you need to take care of before you can move in. Getting the paperwork and financial arrangements out of the way before you arrive will make your Welcome Sunday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
You should have received an email from our Accommodation Team to confirm your room and provide you with your Licence Agreement. You must sign your Licence Agreement and return it to the Accommodation Office as soon as possible to confirm your room. You will also need to pay your £150 deposit to secure your room and make arrangements to pay for your accommodation.
You can move into halls on Sunday 22 September 2013, or Welcome Sunday as we call it. You’ll find more information about arrival arrangements for this day on page 16 but you should put the date in your calendar in the meantime.

Preparing to arrive
Get ready for First Week Starting University is an exciting time. First Week is all about settling into your academic and social environment, meeting your tutors, making friends and generally finding your way around. As well as providing an introduction to your course, there will be opportunities to find out how to make best use of the Library and IT systems, and the full range of student support services available to you.
First Week runs from Monday 23 to Friday 27 September 2013.
Your Faculty will organise your First Week programme for your course. First Week is a living and learning experience and comprises a series of activities to welcome you to the University and to introduce you to your academic life. Please note that First Week is compulsory for all students and the most important thing is that you participate fully and have a good time. You are required to attend all your course-based sessions, but which social activities you choose is up to you.
First Week Timetable Your First Week timetable is available from edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted. Select your course from the drop-down menu and click the ‘First Week’ tab to download and print your individual timetable. Copies will also be available from the New Student Desk in the Hub from 8.30am each day during First Week.
While you’re settling into your new academic life during First Week, the Edge Hill Students’ Union will be keeping you busy with their 2013 Freshers’ Week programme. Undoubtedly one of the best weeks of the year, Freshers’ Week runs alongside First Week and is a great opportunity to have fun and make new friends.

Arrival and Enrolment (Residential Students) Welcome Sunday is our designated day for residential students to arrive on campus, enrol and move into accommodation. It’s a very busy day on campus so, to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible, please follow the instructions outlined in this section. Before you arrive There are a few things that you can do in advance of Welcome Sunday to make sure your arrival at Edge Hill runs smoothly. • •

Arriving at Edge Hill Once you arrive at Edge Hill, you will be able to enrol for your programme and collect the keys to your accommodation before settling into your new home and meeting your flatmates.
Welcome Sunday takes place on Sunday 22 September 2013. Unfortunately, you are not able to arrive on campus any earlier than this date. If you will be unable to arrive until after 6pm on Welcome Sunday or not until the following week (First Week), please contact the Accommodation Team on accommodation@edgehill.ac.uk for advice.
In order to reduce congestion, we have staggered student arrival times alphabetically by surname. Please try and keep to your scheduled arrival time as much as possible to avoid congestion on the day.

Travelling to Welcome Sunday Whether you are travelling to Welcome Sunday by car or public transport, there are arrangements in place to make the move as easy as possible. Arriving by Car
Please note, car parking on campus is limited.
On Welcome Sunday you may bring one car on campus (no vans please) and you will be directed to a parking space. To avoid traffic congestion, there is a maximum 2 hour time limit on parking to allow you to unload your car and unpack.
After this time we request that you move your car to allow other students the opportunity to park and move in. You will be directed to alternative parking in nearby Ormskirk town centre and there is a free bus service from Ormskirk Bus Station to and from the University running every 15 minutes from 7.30am until 6.30pm. You can find a map of Ormskirk with advice on where to park at edgehill.ac.uk/getting started under the ‘Arrivals’ tab. Please note there are parking restrictions in the area immediately surrounding the University. For information about how to find us, visit: edgehill.ac.uk/location.
Please note that Yellow AA™ road signage will be displayed on the approach to the campus. Please follow these directional signs to the designated entrance for your halls, as GPS systems may lead you to the incorrect entrance point.

What happens next? Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, and make your way to the Faculty of Health and Social Care on foot to complete your enrolment process and collect your room key.
When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’ (your Edge Hill student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload your car and move into halls.

On Welcome Sunday, our free Edge Link bus runs from Ormskirk Bus Station to the University every 15 minutes from 7.30am until 6.30pm. The Edge Link bus will drop you off near the main entrance to the University. From here, you should make your way to the Senior Common Room in the Main Building where there is a secure luggage facility for students arriving by public transport. You are able to leave your bags in this safe spot while you enrol and collect your room keys.
After dropping off your bags, you must then make your way to the Faculty of Health and Social Care to complete your enrolment and key collection. Once you have completed your enrolment, you will be directed back to the Senior Common Room to collect your belongings and move into your new home.

Accommodation Fees Once you have enrolled, there are a few things you need to take care of before you can collect your keys.
You must pay your £150 deposit in full and either set up a payment plan for your accommodation fees or pay in full before arrival on Welcome Sunday. Otherwise, the Accommodation Team will be unable to issue you with your room key.

Moving in Once you have completed your enrolment and key collection, you will be directed back to your car or the Senior Common Room to collect your belongings and move into your new accommodation.
Due to car parking limitations, your car must remain in your designated car park. It is not possible to move it closer to your Halls of Residence to drop off your belongings. Important: You are advised to pack your belongings in crates and suitcases with wheels and to avoid packing large heavy boxes that you will find difficult to carry. There is a limited supply of trolleys and buggies available to help you transport your belongings. Please speak to a member of staff for assistance.
Please note that you may be required to walk some distance from the car park to your halls of residence. If you require assistance or have mobility requirements please contact fmhelpdesk@edgehill.ac.uk or 01695 584455 for advice. When you arrive please go to the nearest Welcome Point, where staff will arrange transport for you.

Hall Welcome Talks Once you have settled in and said goodbye to your friends and family, you must attend your compulsory Hall Welcome Talk. This will give you an introduction to your new home, campus facilities and the rules and regulations for students living on campus.
Frequently Asked Questions about Welcome Sunday
What happens when I arrive and where do I collect my keys? Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, or if you are travelling by public transport, in the Staff Common Room. Please follow directions to the Faculty of Health and Social Care to complete your enrolment/key collection process.
When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’ (student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload your car, or collect your belongings and move in.
Is there anywhere that my family can wait while I enrol? Yes, there will be a Family Area in the Faculty of Health and Social Care with complimentary tea or coffee and newspapers. Your family are welcome to use this as a meeting point during the day or somewhere to relax. What should I do if there is a problem with my room? If there is an issue with your room please contact the FM Helpdesk on 01695 584455. The FM Helpdesk will be available throughout the day, and during your time at University.

Admission and Enrolment If you have met all conditions of your offer, your offer status will show as Unconditional (UF) on UCAS or GTTR Track, giving you the green light for enrolment. However, if you still have outstanding conditions to meet you can find further information on your next steps below.
PGCE students: You need to hold an Unconditional offer of a place to enrol. If you are holding a Conditional offer and have outstanding academic conditions (including Professional Skills Tests) to meet, you will not be able to enrol until you supply evidence that these requirements have been met. You can check the status of your offer on GTTR Track at any time. If your offer is still Conditional when the time comes to enrol, you are advised not to travel to enrolment and to seek guidance from the Admissions Team on 0800 028 6677. You should still attend all of the course-based activities and you will be able to enrol at a later date once you have met the academic criteria.
All students: If there are other outstanding conditions associated with your offer of a place, such as medical or DBS clearance, you will be able to provisionally enrol and you should attend your enrolment session and other First Week activities as indicated. However, you will be expected to meet any outstanding requirements promptly and you could be withdrawn from your course if these conditions are not satisfied as soon as possible. You will also be unable to undertake any placement activity without medical or DBS clearance. Clearing Students: If you have been made an offer through Clearing you should carefully read the instructions you have received from Admissions and ensure that you comply with any conditions or deadlines set. Failure to do so could mean that you will be unable to enrol.

Campus Life Sustainable Travel Edge Hill University encourages staff, students and visitors to travel here by sustainable means wherever possible and has developed a Travel Plan to include various sustainable travel initiatives.
The University provides a free shuttle bus to link the campus to Ormskirk town centre, where other public transport options are available. For further information please visit edgehill.ac.uk/sustainability/travel. Parking Permits Parking is limited at Edge Hill University and only available to parking permit holders. Eligibility criteria applies for all parking permit applications and full details are available in our Car Parking Policy at edgehill.ac.uk/sustainability/travel.
If you are a student coming to study at Edge Hill for the first time, you will need to formally enrol on your course and receive your student number before you can apply for your official permit. Prior to your enrolment day, you will be supplied with a temporary parking permit to allow you access to the campus to complete your enrolment. Following enrolment you will be directed to apply for your parking permit online. If you are eligible, a blue student parking permit will be provided which will allow you to park in the Blue Zone i.e. the main car park. Other car parks are reserved for staff and visitors.
Residential students are not permitted to keep their cars on campus unless studying on a course which requires them to undertake a placement.

Post The University has a dedicated post room on-site which handles all internal and external mail, around 800,000 items of post per year.
We provide a student mail delivery service to the mail boxes located in all Halls of Residence. We also provide a parcel collection service where students are notified of a delivery via email.
The Post Room is located in The Durning Centre and is open for parcel collections at the following times: Monday to Thursday: 8.00am – 10.00am, 12.00pm – 1.00pm and 5.00pm – 8.00pm. Friday: 8.00am – 10.00am and 12.00pm – 1.00pm.

Catering Whether it’s a quick coffee and a catch up, lunch between lectures or a late night treat, you are sure to find just what your taste buds are looking for from our wide selection of on-site coffee bars, cafes, diner and restaurant.
All dining outlets at Edge Hill University have social spaces in which to eat and study as well as free wireless internet access.
If you are living on campus you can also take advantage of the meal plan scheme, or if you are self-catering, the University shops stock all essential items you could need. Retail There is an on-site McColls convenience store and the University Shop, both of which sell food, drink, stationery and household items to cater for our residential students.
In addition, the University is located close to Ormskirk town centre where you will find other shops and amenities. Edge Hill University provides a regular free Edge Link shuttle bus which connects the campus to Ormskirk town centre. Launderette Our on-site launderette houses nineteen automatic washing machines and twenty dryers. The opening times are 7.30am to 9.00pm every day.

Learning Services Learning Services provide learning resource centres and information provision, learning support, ICT user support for learning and teaching, eLearning development and support, media services, study skills and support for students with Specific Learning Difficulties (eg. Dyslexia, Dyspraxia).
Learning Services provide help and support with library and media resources, study spaces and 24/7 IT access as well as a range of guidance and support for academic and research skills, help with accessing books and journals and also the development of Learning Edge, your virtual learning space. Helpful, specialist staff can provide virtual and personal support for a wide variety of issues. You will find lots of information and help and support via our webpages, including our Ask Us question service at askus.edgehill.ac.uk.
In September, Learning Services will offer a selection of sessions and drop-ins so that students can get to know the University better and find out where they can access resources and help and support.

Council Tax Exemption Certificate Council Tax Exemption Certificates will not be available until the first teaching week of term and this will differ depending on the term dates for your programme. A button to request a Certificate will appear on Student Central, when you login to your Edge Hill IT account during your first week of term. If the button does not appear, and you believe that you are eligible for council tax exemption, please contact the Enrollment Team on enrolment@edgehill.ac.uk. As you can see, there’s a lot going on within the Edge Hill campus. However, there’s even more to enjoy once you step outside.
Antonio’s is a great little Italian restaurant on Burscough Street- amazing food and really reasonable prices and there's a great takeaway called Scoozi in the town centre that serves big portions at cheap prices- they also do delivery Jo, BSc (Hons) Computing Cottage Crafts is a really nice shop in Ormskirk town centre. Nearby: Liverpool ONE is the perfect place to treat yourself, catch a flick or enjoy something to eat. They even have an ice skating rink as part of their Christmas celebrations.
Southport Beach is a great spot for a picnic and a kick around on a sunny day.
Disraeli's do great offers on food and drink. It's a great place to book a table for birthdays or just a nice chilled meal with friends. The Ropers Arms on Wigan Road do a weekly pub quiz in support of Teenage Cancer Trust. It's a great night and makes a nice change from clubbing Sophie, BA (Hons) Design for Performance

Road Via the M6 North and South junction 26, then onto the M58, junction 3, taking the A570 towards Southport and Ormskirk. The Campus can also be reached from Preston or Liverpool via the A59.
If using a satellite navigation system, you can enter L39 4QP as your destination postcode for a direct route. Please ensure that your journey will bring you to the University's Main Entrance on St Helens Road.
Edge Link Bus The University operates the free Edge Link bus service between the Campus and Ormskirk bus station every twenty minutes from 8.05am until 8.56pm, Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays, and 8.05am until 5.56pm on Saturdays. The service is free on production on a valid Unicard.
Parking on campus The University recognised the need to reduce pollution and congestion by minimising the reliance on cars and promoting the benefits of sustainable travel. Residential students are not permitted to bring cars on campus unless this is necessary during placement activities and commuting students are advised to use public transport whenever possible.
If you do need to use your car, a valid permit must be displayed to park. You will be able to seek advice and apply for a permit during First Week.
