Welcome to the Department of Law and Criminology We are delighted to welcome you to the Department of Law and Criminology at Edge Hill University. We aim to provide you with a stimulating and challenging academic experience over the course of your degree in an environment focused around providing you with the opportunity to develop your full potential. You will be part of a vibrant and friendly community supported by a dynamic and enthusiastic staff team who are supportive and ready to advise you. You will be encouraged to participate in the academic and social life of the Department in order to become a resourceful and independent learner. You will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy student life by engaging with various extra-curricula activities such as the Student Law Society or by participating in educational visits to institutions that relate to your studies. This week is devoted to inducting you to the culture and expectations of academic life. We shall focus on introducing you to your chosen programme of study, the teaching staff in the Department, your personal tutor and to each other. You will be introduced to University facilities and resources such as the library and Blackboard, which will be important in supporting your learning. We shall be distributing various handbooks and administrative information which will help guide you through your studies. We hope that by the end of this week you will be familiar with most of our procedures and our teaching and learning approaches so that when lectures and seminars begin next week you will be able to get off to an enjoyable start.
