Pre-registration PARAMEDIC PRogrammes

Welcome to the Pre-Registration Paramedic Programmes in the Faculty of Health and Social Care Congratulations on successfully securing a place on the pre-registration Paramedic programme. This is the beginning of a life long career which is very challenging but extremely rewarding. We are pleased to be able to welcome you into the Faculty of Health and Social Care and be part of shaping your future. The Faculty is made up of 178 staff who are here to help teach, guide and support you and ensure you have a positive student experience. In terms of practice, Edge Hill has excellent relationships with NHS hospital and community Trusts and the practice placement experience of our students has been voted best in the country for two years running in the National Student Survey. Your Fresher’s week and induction week have been designed to give you time to settle into University life, introduce you to the programme, teaching staff and personal tutor. It is also about getting to know your peers. The first few weeks will be daunting and you will receive a lot of information; do not worry if not all of it sticks at first, you can always get further advice from your personal tutor, module leader or year lead. Don’t hesitate to contact someone at any time by email, phone or in person. Staff on reception are always willing to help if you are unsure or cannot find the person you need to speak to. We wish you well with your study and hope that you will make the most of all the opportunities that will be made available to you.

Your Induction The first week of your programme is designed to prepare and inform you about the University and the North West Ambulance Service. This information is an invaluable asset to your development throughout the programme. Dependant on which group you are in (Direct Entry or NWAS Conversion student), your induction timetable will vary in overall content in relation to practice specific aspects. However, the University induction elements will be consistent across all new cohorts. As a new student you will be given the opportunity to attend The Freshers Fair at the Ormskirk Campus during the first week of induction on:

Wednesday 21st September 2011

All other elements of your induction will take place at Armstrong House in Manchester and a timetable will be issued to you on the first day of the programme. As a student on a professional programme, you are a co-producer of your achievements and future academic and professional success. It is therefore vitally important that any issues that may affect your study/learning are highlighted to your personal tutor at an early stage, so that an appropriate resolution can be sought. I am sure that you will enjoy your induction programme and your time spent as a student at Edge Hill University.
