Edge Hill University, located in Ormskirk, Lancashire, has been providing higher education for more than 125 years on an award – winning campus, which has seen investment of over £180m in the last decade. Recent developments have included the £13m Student Hub (Opposite), newly developed Arts Centre, and 25 acre sports complex. Further £200m expansion plans will see even better teaching, learning and living resources for future students.

Shortlisted for the Times Higher UK University of the Year 2011, 2010 and 2007, we offer an excellent student experience, with a strong focus on preparing students for the job market, ensuring students graduate with the skills and knowledge to stand out in a competitive job market.

Faculty of Arts and Sciences All our programmes are designed to give students subject specific knowledge and a range of transferable life skills which will give students an edge in the competitive global job market. An increasing number of our programmes are recognised by professional bodies, and some have industry placements or work based learning built into them. Recent investment in facilities have included the £16 million Creative Edge Building, home to the Animation, Computing, and Media Departments.

Faculty of Education The Faculty of Education achieved Grade 1 `Outstanding` results across all 33 areas covered by the Ofsted Initial Teacher Training Inspection, 2011, and is the largest provider of teacher training in the country. Programmes are delivered in a £9 million purpose-built lakeside building, while support offered by staff is personalised and high quality.

Faculty of Health and Social Care The Faculty is one of the main providers of education for healthcare professionals in the North West, while our £14 million purpose-built accommodation houses some of the best facilities for health and social care students in the country.

Edge Hill University


The Education Liaison and Events Team The Education Liaison and Events Team at Edge Hill University work with schools and colleges across the UK to deliver engaging and informative presentations, workshops, and on campus visits. The team works mainly with Year 12 students, but are happy to discuss ideas and requests for working with groups from Year 9 upwards.

The team works with schools and colleges to design and deliver activities to assist students at all stages of the education decision making process:

Making GCSE, A Level and BTEC decisions Introducing the benefits of Higher Education Choosing a Course, Institution and the Student Experience Advising on processes such as UCAS, Personal Statement writing, and Student Finance.

In addition to working with students, the team have extensive experience in working with parents and teachers/careers advisers, and are happy to attend INSET or twilight events accordingly.

The Education Liaison and Events Team have a wealth of experience in school liaison activity, and aim to provide impartial and timely information, advice and guidance at all times. Each member of the team is advanced DBS checked, and all are active members of the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA) the professional body overseeing university work with prospective students and their advisers, more information of which can be found at: www.heloa.ac.uk.

Post 16 Activities The Education Liaison and Events Team are here to help students with their HE decision making. We offer impartial information, advice and guidance on a range of topics such as the UCAS application process, and Student Finance.

Campus Visits Throughout the year we welcome a large number of Sixth Form and College students onto campus, either as part of their Higher Education preparation, or for Subject Conferences and Academic Enrichment opportunities. Visiting a range of universities is an invaluable experience for students, as it enables them to develop a more in–depth understanding of the variety of institutions and courses available to them as potential Higher Education students.

The team have extensive experience in organising campus visits, ranging from small cohorts of students, to entire year groups. Campus visit programmes are tailored around individual school or college requirements but typically include:

An overview of the benefits of Higher Education Guidance for undertaking initial course research Student Experience (Delivered by a current Edge Hill University student) Presentations on topics such as UCAS and Student Finance Workshops on topics such as Personal Statements and Budgeting

Visiting students will also tour the university campus, and by meeting current undergraduate students who work with us during on campus events, students can literally see the potential for experiences and personal development, rather than simply reading about it in a prospectus. School Based Activities The team are happy to visit schools and colleges to deliver a range of presentations and workshops in the classroom. A guide to our presentations and workshop topics are detailed below, however all are tailored to your school/college requirements.


Subject Conferences Throughout the year the Education Liaison and Events Team organise a range of Subject Conferences and Academic Enrichment opportunities for post 16 students across a range of subject areas.

Subject Conferences are aimed primarily towards AS level / first year college students. These days are designed to give students an insight into studying a particular subject or field at a higher level, and typically involve a mixture of informative lectures and practical opportunities. These conferences also include an opportunity to speak to current undergraduate students, and to see the campus and facilities. All conferences are offered free of charge.

Details of upcoming conferences will be sent (via post and electronically) to key contacts within schools / colleges approximately 6 weeks prior to the conference. Conferences are held throughout the year, typically during October, November, March, April and June. Timings vary by event, but usually run 10:00am to 3:00pm. To be added to our key contacts database, please contact the Education Liaison Officer responsible for your region, contact our team Administrator or return the form at the back of this booklet. Upcoming Subject Conferences will also be detailed online at: edgehill.ac.uk/studentrecruitment Please note that our conferences are very popular, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Each conference will have a maximum capacity, with some conferences having a limited number of places available per school or college. Places are confirmed once we are in receipt of a full list of delegates names, and a signed Service Level Agreement.


Academic Enrichment events take place throughout the year, and are aimed primarily towards AS/first year college students, although A2 and second year students are welcome to attend. Academic enrichment events will focus on a particular topic, and content has been mapped across that of the major exam boards AQA, Edexcel and OCR. It is envisaged that these enrichment sessions will support and encourage students’ learning, alongside classroom teaching. Details of upcoming academic enrichment sessions will be sent (via post and electronically) to key contacts within schools/colleges approximately 6 weeks prior to the event. General Studies/Critical Thinking Subject to staff availability, Edge Hill University are able to offer lectures and workshops tailored around specific areas of the General Studies and Critical Thinking syllabus. Please contact the Education Liaison Officer responsible for your region to discuss this further.

The Arts Centre Throughout the year The Arts Centre offer a series of cinema and theatre showings which may relate to A level/BTEC sylabi. The Arts Centre events are offered at a discounted price (or free) for school group bookings. Campus tours and supporting talks and/or workshops can be arranged alongside such events as requested. Higher Education/Careers Fairs The Education Liaison and Events Team, along with a small pool of fully trained Student Ambassadors are able to attend a range of daytime and twilight `marketplace` events organised by individual schools/colleges such as HE and Careers Fairs. Typically attended by post 16 students, we are able to offer information on our course provision, entry requirements and student experience.

The team are also able to attend targeted Sixth Form Open Evenings, aimed at students in years 10 and 11, offering advice and guidance on post 16 study options and university admissions.

UCAS Conventions You can meet us at all conventions across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UCAS conventions will be attended by members of the Education Liaison and Events Team and/or members of the Student Ambassador team. Alongside the general UCAS Conventions, the university also attend the subject specific Compose Your Future and Design Your Future events, which take place at Manchester Central Convention Centre each year.


The university will hold an undergraduate Open Day on Friday 20th June 2014, which is specifically for school/college groups. This day will provide opportunities to tour the university campus and accommodation, as well as to speak to academic tutors, and support services including the Students’ Union, Inclusion Team and Student Financial Advice.

School/College Open Day


Year 12 Residential Visits The Education Liaison and Events Team are able to offer opportunities for specific cohorts of students to experience life on campus during the course of summer residential visits.

The Year 12 Residential programme will run across four days (three nights) in July 2014. A wide range of subject areas will be taking part, with students able to select one subject area to focus on. All residential attendees will have access to the University Library and IT network for the duration of the residential. Evening activities (some compulsory and some optional) will run each night, and students will stay in halls of residence, to experience life as an undergraduate student. Current Edge Hill University undergraduate students will be on hand throughout the residential, offering support and guidance where necessary.

Places are fully funded by the university, and those interested in attending are required to submit an application form, consisting of a short ‘personal statement’ and education history, which will be used in the selection process.

As this residential event takes place during the summer holidays, students must enquire and apply individually. Details of the residential will be sent (via post and electronically) to key contacts within schools/colleges in due course, and displayed on our website edgehill.ac.uk/studentrecruitment.

Twilight Presentations and Events Throughout the year the Education Liaison and Events Team attend numerous twilight events, for example delivering informal presentations on a range of topics to parents/guardians, as well as attending evening HE/Careers Fairs.

Twilight Presentations Each year the team are invited into schools and colleges to deliver informative twilight presentations to parents and guardians on a range of topics. Topics frequently requested include Student Finance, an overview of Higher Education and UCAS, and GCSE/Post 16 Options. If you are interested in arranging a twilight presentation, please contact the Education Liaison Officer responsible for your region, or email educationliaison@edgehill.ac.uk. “Thank you for your input last night. The Education Liaison and Events Team value establishing and maintaining relationships with Teachers, Sixth Form/College Staff and Careers Advisers. Each year Edge Hill University offer a number of engaging and topical opportunities for staff regarding the changes to the sector, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, as detailed below:

Annual Teachers and Advisers Conference The Annual Teachers and Advisers Conference takes place in May each year, is free to attend, and regularly attracts a significant number of delegates from across the UK. The conference offers an opportunity to learn about sector changes, attend workshops delivered by sector experts, and network with colleagues in similar roles. A full programme will be sent (via post and electronically) to key contacts within schools/colleges approximately 6 weeks prior to the conference, and will be displayed online at edgehill.ac.uk/studentrecruitment. Policy Unwrapped Policy Unwrapped is a series of termly sessions aimed at those who work in an education setting and is designed to provide an impartial commentary on the purpose and impact of higher education policy. With expert opinion, insightful comment and valuable networking opportunities, Policy Unwrapped is a must for those who want to stay abreast of sector developments and support their students in HE decision making. Registration and arrival refreshments takes places from 4.30pm, with the Policy Unwrapped session from 5.30pm, followed by an informal evening meal. Recent Policy Unwrapped evenings have focussed on Changes to Initial Teacher Training and The Future of Information, Advice and Guidance. Open Evenings/Professional Development Edge Hill University’s Faculty of Education offers a broad range of opportunities for qualified and unqualified members of the school workforce through staff CPD, including Early Years Teacher Status, and Professional Development modules. The Faculty of Education hold a series of Open Evenings throughout the year at the main Ormskirk campus and outreach centres, details of which are available at edgehill.ac.uk/undergraduate/events/education.

By road via the M6, off at junction 26, then onto the M58, off at junction 3, taking the A570 towards Southport and Ormskirk. The campus can also be reached from Preston or Liverpool via the A59. By rail from Liverpool Central to Ormskirk station on Merseyrail's Northern Line or Preston to Ormskirk station on Northern Rail.

The Edgelink bus service runs at 15 minute intervals from Ormskirk bus station to Edge Hill and back throughout the day, 8:15 to 17:50 Monday to Saturday, excluding Bank Holidays.
