Welcome to Social Sciences We aim to provide you with a stimulating and challenging educational experience in the course of the next three years where you will have the opportunity of developing your full potential. You will be part of a vibrant and friendly community supported by a dynamic and enthusiastic staff team who are all approachable and ready to advise you. You will be encouraged to participate in the academic and social life of the Department. You will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy student life by engaging with various extra-curricula activities or by participating in educational visits to institutions that relate to your studies. This week is devoted to inducting you to the culture and expectations of academic life. We shall focus on introducing you to your chosen programme of study, the teaching staff in the Department and your personal tutor. You will be introduced to University facilities and resources such as the library and Blackboard, which will be important in supporting your learning. We shall be distributing various handbooks and administrative information which will help guide you through your studies. We hope that by the end of this week you will be familiar with most of our procedures and our teaching and learning approaches so that when lectures and seminars begin next week you will get off to an enjoyable start.
