Welcome to the Department of Sport And Physical Activity You are joining the biggest department in the University with more than 1000 students and 46 staff. We offer a wide range of vocationally relevant programmes which are underpinned by extensive staff research and professional expertise.
Our facilities are amongst the best in Higher Education. Sport and physical activity students have access to dedicated psychology, biomechanics and physiology laboratories, productionstandard dance studio, sport and exercise rehabilitation centre and sports therapy clinic. Unlike many other universities, all our equipment is easily accessible and available for students to use for research, training and development.
Whilst at Edge Hill you will receive a first class education in both the theory and practice of your chosen specialism. Our staff are dedicated to giving you the best experience they can. What you do with that experience is in your hands. We set very high standards both for you and for ourselves and we hope you will take advantage of everything that is on offer. We also hope that our efforts will be matched by your own efforts. Work hard and play hard!!
We believe that the educational journey is as important as the final outcome. We take pride in the fact that all our undergraduate students have the opportunity to enjoy a rich education experience seeing first hand how knowledge in their discipline is produced, training and coaching techniques are developed, and athletes and performance are improved.
We aim to provide our students with an engaging and stimulating experience whilst recognising that sometimes students need more than just excellent teachers and researchers – they also need support and guidance. On arrival, each student is allocated a personal tutor within the department – the first point of call for any questions or concerns. Each degree route has a dedicated programme leader who is able to help out with programme-specific advice. Our staff, both academic and administrative, operate an open door policy so that help is available when you need it. Despite being a large department, we take time to get to know our students personally so that we can provide the individual support they need to help them become effective independent learners.
We hope that you enjoy your time with us here at Edge Hill, and wish you the very best of success in your degree studies. Remember, we are here to help, so never be afraid to ask.
