Enrolment Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning of the year to become a member of the University, activate your IT/Library account and benefit from all its services. The enrolment process consists of two stages:

Stage one The first stage is online enrolment which will open on Tuesday 8 September. You will receive an email on this day which will include all the information and instructions you will need to complete the process. To prepare for stage one, visit edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/online-enrolment-guide and read the online guide. If you are on a programme within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences which has optional modules, you will be required to choose these during this stage of enrolment. For more information about the modules offered on your programme please refer to: edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/undergraduate/course-preparation

Before you arrive

The following table shows what documents you MUST bring with you to stage two of enrolment:

Preparing your finances If you intend to get help with paying your tuition fees and living expenses for your studies, now is the time to make sure that loans and grants are in place. This will ensure that you receive your funding on time and your transition to university life runs smoothly. Applying for student finance If you have not yet applied for help with financing your studies, you should apply immediately at www.gov.uk/student-finance. The process can take some time, so it is important that you do not delay with making your application. Evidence of your application/assessment will be required when you complete stage two of enrolment.

Assessment of Funding You must ensure you return your declaration form to Student Finance (this is to confirm you agree to the terms and conditions of the loan). Without this form Student Finance are unable to complete final checks and approve your application, which will lead to a delay in any funding being paid to you when you start your course. Once Student Finance have completed your assessment they will send you paperwork showing your entitlement to funding. You can also check on the progress of your application online and see a copy of your assessment once it is available. Please ensure that all of your details are correct, including:

• • •

The university you will be studying at The course you will be studying The tuition fee for your course.

If any of the above details are incorrect on your student finance paperwork please contact TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk.

When will I receive my funding? After you have completed stage two of enrolment, your first payment will be released. It can take up to five working days for payment to arrive in your account, or longer, if you applied for funding late. But remember, this will only be paid if your loan declaration has been signed and returned to Student Finance and they have approved your application by completing all verification checks.

9

i If you are self-funding your studies, please contact the Fees, Scholarships and Bursaries Team by emailing TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk prior to enrolment.

NHS Funded Students If you are enrolling onto an NHS funded programme, you must apply for an NHS bursary to ensure your tuition fees will be paid and for them to calculate your bursary entitlement which will be for your living expenses during your studies. Please visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students to begin the application process if you haven’t done so already. Once your application has been approved, you must bring a copy of your ‘NHS Notification of Award’ to stage two of enrolment.

If you have any questions about fees and finance, contact the Fees, Scholarships and Bursaries Team on TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk.

i Your checklist • •

The University provides a free shuttle bus to link the campus to Ormskirk town centre, where other public transport options are available. For further information please visit edgehill.ac.uk/travel.

Be recognised by Edge Hill students and the University as the provider of excellent, effective advice and representation on academic and welfare matters Provide quality, well-used membership and commercial services for our diverse student body Be acknowledged by Edge Hill students as having made a positive difference to their lives

To achieve this we listen to your feedback and ideas, whilst ensuring we offer guidance, support and help if things go wrong.

The Union is run by four elected officers, a President, Vice President Welfare, Vice President Academic Representation and Vice President Activities. The Officers’ roles are to represent the student body on a variety of issues that affect you, our members. We do this by representing your views at a number of University committees and boards and also run a range of campaigns.

The officer team are supported by a team of full-time and part time staff, as well as Part-Time Officers, elected to represent; LGBT students, Disabled students, Black students, Part-time/Mature students, Post Graduate students and Women respectively. These Officers help to inform projects that the Full-Time Officers work on, as well as running their own campaigns on behalf of the students they represent.

An essential function of the Union is our representation and as a result of student feedback we opened an Advice and Representation Centre and over the last two years the service has grown considerably, offering support and guidance in key areas such as academic issues, welfare benefits, housing, money and debt. The Advice and Representation Centre runs drop-in sessions, pre-bookable appointments and phone consultations to help make the service as accessible as possible for all students. The most important aspect of our service is that we are totally independent from the University and so our advice is impartial, confidential and free to students.

Course Reps are also an integral part of our democracy and representation, ensuring all students’ voices are being heard, whether on a course level, or right up to Faculty level. Being a Course Rep is great for employability and transferable skills, empowering yourself and your peers to make sure you’re getting the best from your course.
