Edibles Magazine Issue 32
Greetings and Salutations to the wonderful readers of Edibles List Magazine. I’m Patrick Ian Moore and I’d like to introduce myself as your new Editor-In-Chief. B. Le Grand needs to devote more time to going on secret missions these days, so I’ll now be taking over this position. I feel ready for the challenge, am quite excited to be accepting this opportunity, and am really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for our industry - which seems to be growing exponentially and in every direction with each new day. I’ve been here working as senior editor of Edibles since the November issue, and it’s been great getting to be part of this publication and to work with this awesome team. Since my time first coming to Edibles List in October, we’ve already done several events and projects that I’m extremely proud of - like The Infused Expo, The Holiday Ganja Gift Guide, and The 3rd Annual Edibles Awards Show. We also had amazing interviews with a wide variety of subjects, like Oscar Nominated Actor Eric Roberts and NASA Botanist Professor Dale J. Chamberlain. We’ve covered the future of space age intergalactic cannabis, and also looked at the history of ancient marijuana use in Southeast Asia. I really can’t wait to

see where we go, and what we do next. This is a great new issue we have for you, covering The Best of Edibles Awards Show, Pro-Wrestling superstar Rob Van Dam, Measure M and what it means for LA, K-Town Cannabis Chicken and Waffles, and so much more. Getting to work with Rob Van Dam for the couple of days we spent shooting with him at Venice Beach was a real pleasure. It’s always so inspiring to meet celebrities who turn out to be genuinely kind and generous people, and seeing RVD interact with the fans who approached him was just always really super cool. Next month is April, and 4/20 is pretty much the biggest holiday of the year in our world. We’ll be back at Casa Vertigo on April 20th celebrating with a great day of infused fun at a very special Cannabis Casino, and rumor is there’s going to be a bouncey house there too! I’m guessing I may have just told you what your plans that day are going to be. Thanks so much for reading, know your dose, medicate well, and all that good stuff!

Q&A
TALKING TOPICALS with Gar Gar Souders, cannatopics.com
Hi Gar, I am a cancer patient currently taking an oral cannabis oil. A friend who has been through this successfully said I need to be using topicals also. Would this be of any help, and why? Lisa San Jose, CA Dear Lisa, Studies have shown topicals to be an excellent addition to your cannabis oil regimen. When using cannabis oil orally, the cancer cells are attacked via the body's natural CB1 receptors When cancer cells contact THC, the result is immediate death of the cancer cell. This result is what makes a high THC cannabis oil such an effective cancer treatment. Topicals are transported via the CB2 system, with receptors all over the body, especially near the lymph nodes. By adding a high THC external oil to the outer area affected by cancer, in addition to an oral THC oil, the cancer is attacked by both CB1 and CB2 receptor systems with cancer killing THC. Topicals are the easiest way to access the CB2 receptors, making them an ideal addition for anyone currently going through a cancer treatment to seriously consider. Hi Gar, I follow your column every month and had to share this with you. I burned my hand on the oven yesterday while cooking dinner. I rubbed a topical salve stick all over it right away. Not only did it not blister, my hand was fine today. Is this unusual? Robin Chico, CA Hi Robin, I am glad you had such great success. The healing ability of some topical products is incredible. For minor burns, an infused topical or gel is a great choice. For first aid use, I prefer a combination of olive oil, beeswax and cannabis. This combo provides anti-bacterial, antiinflammatory and skin repair in one safe product Please remember, for serious burns always consult your physician. Dear Gar, I live near a lake and insect bites are a constant problem once spring arrives. The mosquito bites are awful and sometimes get infected because we scratch them. Do you know of anything that might help? Stan Blue Lake, CA Hi Stan, I have a great solution for you. A high cannabinoid salve or stick type product containing natural ingredients, such as olive or coconut oil should help a lot. A small amount applied as soon as you notice the bite has been shown to not only relieve itching, it can also help to reduce swelling & inflammation. Gar Souders has over a decade of research into the effects & formulations of cannabis infused topicals. He is the Founder of CannaTopics and is a member of several Pro Cannabis organizations. Rob Van Dam: High on Life & Healthy Edibles Patrick Ian Moore
dubbed "Rob Van Dam" by Florida wrestling promoter Ron Slinker in 1991, Rob wrestled in independent Michigan promotions that included the United States Wrestling Association, and South Atlantic Pro Wrestling, where he won his first wrestling championship, The SAPW Tag Team Championship in July 1992. Van Dam signed with World Championship Wrestling in late 1992 and made his debut with the WCW on the January 23rd episode of Saturday Night in 1993 and quickly became a fan favorite. Three years later in January of 1996, RVD signed with the Philadelphia based Extreme Championship Wrestling, where he won the World Television Championship on
April 4th, 1998. He successfully defended and retained the World Championship title in a series of matches until he suffered a broken ankle in a successful title defense against "Rhino" on January 29th of 2000, and the injury forced him to vacate the title. Several months after the closure of ECW, RVD was signed to the World Wrestling Federation, and he returned to WWF television on an episode of Raw on July 9th in Atlanta, Georgia. Van Dam continued wrestling and winning several championship titles, including: Hardcore Championship, the Pacific Coast Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, and over 10 different World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment Championships. Van Dam has won 21 total championships, including three world championships, and is the only wrestler in history to have held the ECW World Championship, the WWE Championship, and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. He even once held the WWE and ECW titles simultaneously within World Wrestling Entertainment. Van Dam was voted "Most Popular Wrestler" by the readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 2001 and again in 2002,

Rob Van Dam was born "Robert Alex Szatkowski" on December 18, 1970 in Battle Creek Michigan. Growing up, he studied a variety of martial arts, including: Karate, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Kendo, and Aikido. He made his very first appearance on World Wrestling Federation Television in 1987 when he was selected as a plant from the audience and paid $100 to perform a skit where he entered the ring and kissed "The Million Dollar Man Ted DiaBase's foot. and was ranked the number one wrestler in the world by the magazine in 2002. World Wrestling Entertainment named him the greatest star in the history of Extreme Championship Wrestling.

RVD was usually a “face” in prowrestling, but occasionally would play the “heel”. For our readers who are unfamiliar with some of the terminology of professional wrestling, a face is a good guy, or hero character, and the heel is a bad guy or villain. Traditionally, faces tend to be better looking, better groomed, friendlier to fans, and to emphasize athleticism and aerial maneuvers over the brute strength often associated with heels. The face vs. heel dynamic is usually part of a larger ‘kayfabe”. Kayfabe is: “the portrayal of staged events within the pro-wrestling industry as being "real" or "true," specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being authentic, and not of a pre-determined or staged nature”. Rob’s natural laid back attitude, stoner personality, surfer look, and genuine
Outside the ring, RVD has appeared in numerous films, and on several television shows. He was cast in a seventh season episode of The X-Files titled "Fight Club" alongside comedian and fellow guest star Kathy Griffin, who was playing twins. That same year he was also on V.I.P with Pamela Anderson, and in 2002 he played "The Claw" in Black Mask 2: City of Masks. Just last year he played a soldier named Vasquez in "Sniper: Special Ops" - also starring Steven Seagal, who served as executive producer. RVD also provided the voice of the character “Bobby” in the Saints Row series of video games. In addition to wrestling and acting, Rob Van Dam is the creator of the Van Dam Lift, a weight lifting technique that involves performing a split between two benches and lifting a dumbbell from the floor to the waist. The lift was approved by the International All-Around Weightlifting Association in 1998. His lift was also then entered into the rulebooks of the United States All-Round Weightlifting Association. Rob currently holds the record which is 166.5 lbs.
A popular professional wrestler may not necessarily be the kind of cannabis advocate or activist people are expecting, but Rob Van Dam has spoken out for years about the benefits of marijuana for athletes, and about it’s uses as a workout and recovery tool. He said, “If I want to relax and just chill out, consuming cannabis can

help with that. If I want to be active, if I'm going to go work out or have a match, then it can help with that, too." He added that pure Sativa strains are his preference for earlier in the day, and that Tangie is a particular favorite due to the creative energy it gives him. Indica strains like Grandaddy Purple and True OG are what he likes most at the end of the day and for aiding with sleep, and strains high in Cannabidiol, or CBD, like AC/DC and Cannatonic help best with pain management. He’s been a guest at many different cannabis cups, competitions, and expos, and on various radio shows and podcasts discussing his thoughts, opinions, and beliefs about the cannabis plant. On February 26th, just last month, Rob was kind enough to join us as a special celebrity guest presenter at The Third Annual Best of Edibles List Awards Show at Casa Vertigo in Downtown Los Angeles (see the article elsewhere in this issue). He presented the multiple awards won by W Vapes, including most potent vape - which he is a big fan of. We went around together and visited every vendor and every booth. It was very cool seeing him interact with vendors and manufacturers, and to hear him asking about cannabinoids, terpenes, and decarboxylation. Everyone was generous with the free gifts and swag, and it gave us a chance to discuss all the different types of edibles out there, and what makes them different. Then one aspect of cannabis infused edibles seemed especially intriguing to him, and he asked:

kind of edible had gathered together in this one space and all had their products on display! We visited a few specific booths after that and were able to focus a bit on the healthier side of things, and think about products that would be especially beneficial for working out, exercising, and recovery. First we went by Healthy High Edibles, who make raw and vegan low calorie cannabis treats that are still very delicious, with flavors like Salted Caramel Crisp with Pecans and Chocolate, Peanut Butter Pretzel Crunch, and Sweet and Salty Nuts. Next we paid a visit to the guys at Smokin’ Mike. They make high quality marijuana infused beef jerky and other dried meats, so it’s all very high in protein with no carbs, no sugar, and no nitrates. The third product we chose was Moonman’s Mistress makers of hand-crafted baked goods that are paleo, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and lowglycemic, who also have nut-free, vegan & CBD options on select products.
I was glad he’d asked then and there, because we couldn’t have been in a better place for that question. All the best manufacturers of every We met a week later at Venice Beach for a casual EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
COVER STORY Van Dam probably has at least more than a few matches left in him, but he mentioned that as the years go by, the body enjoys it less and less. He’s been a wrestler,
martial artist, actor, action figure, video game character, and cannabis advocate, so it’s going to be really interesting to see what he does next. Currently he’s focusing on his stand-up comedy, which is actually going quite well. Throughout January and February of this year, he was on his “Whole F’N Comedy Tour”, and performed in Denver, Austin, Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco - just to name a few cities. It was really a great experience hanging out with such an iconic personality, and we’re definitely hoping to do it again soon. We know of some very cool upcoming cannabis events that we’re expecting to see RVD at, and we know he’s got some very cool projects in the works that we look forward to seeing! photo shoot with him and his lovely girlfriend Katie Forbes, and to enjoy snacking on the healthy array of edibles that had been donated before we embarked on a Rob Van Dam led trek through Venice as he showed us around the beach. Despite having wrestled for the past 26 years, he’s still clearly in great shape and would pull off his t-shirt to get some sun at every opportunity, and seemed to take real joy in jumping and climbing on things like the rings at the acro-yoga section of Muscle Beach. Did I mention we’d been medicating a lot of healthy edibles? What was truly most fun about the day, was seeing Rob’s friendly and easy interactions with his fans. He was recognized by diverse groups of admirers again and again, and he always took the time to sign an autograph and let them take a selfie after saying hello and shaking their hand. It seriously did make a lot of people’s day.

K-Town Infused Chicken & Waffles
Patrick Ian Moore
On Saturday March 4th, the staff of Edibles List had the pleasure of feasting on ”Edibles R' Us” Cannabis Infused Chicken and Waffles from The Koreatown Collective on Melrose. This deliciously indulgent meal is available the first Saturday every month, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re anywhere near Southern California. K-Town has been offering infused chicken and waffles for the last year and a half, and KTC’s owner Janice Hardoon told us they started the tradition for a patient who had lung cancer and was unable to medicate by smoking, and needed savory and high protein meals with a high THC content to help her recover after chemotherapy treatments. Every layer is infused: the chicken is marinated with a blend of OG flowers, as well as the waffle batter, syrup, butter, ketchup, and hot sauce. The dosing goes like this: each chicken wing contains 30mg of THC, and each waffle has 40mg. Condiments are served in 2 oz jars, and the butter has 35mg. Ketchup, syrup, and hot sauce each contain 30mg. The dosing for each patient can be controlled by the amount of sauces that are used, and everything is tested for quality and potency by SC Labs. These marijuana medicated chicken wings and waffles are incredibly tasty, very potent, highly recommended, and as creative a way to medicate as we’ve seen yet! Edibles List Awards Event Recap
Patrick Ian Moore
There was a deluxe “Canna-Bus” with a fully stocked bar and plenty of pre-rolls parked out front for anyone who wanted to smoke flower and still get out
of the cold. A lot of folks dressed up in evening wear and cocktail attire, which really made the photos being taken on the red carpet throughout the night look extra beautiful, and it seemed especially appropriate since the celebration was being held on the same day as The Academy Awards Ceremony. The DJ was onstage playing fresh and funky music all evening long while people mingled, networked, sipped drinks, and munched on deliciously infused cannabis treats that included a variety of everything ranging from cotton candy and gluten free cupcakes to spicy teriyaki beef jerky and candied bacon, and there was even an array of vegan and kosher choices available too. Prowrestling superstar Rob Van Dam was there as a special guest celebrity presenter for the awards show. The venue was packed by the time the trophies started being handed out, and it was wonderful hearing all of the compassionate acceptance speeches being given by the winners. It’s such an amazing time each year, when Edibles List is able to recognize the excellent work being done in this industry by so many companies who truly are in this business for all the right reasons. Please take the time to look over the list of winners, pictures, and awards printed in this issue, and we definitely do hope to see you at this event next year - so save the date!

The Third Annual Best of Edibles List Awards was held last month on Sunday February 26th at the historic Casa Vertigo in Downtown Los Angeles, and this year we had the best event yet! The evening actually got started late in the afternoon at 3PM, and was open to dispensaries, collectives, and delivery services so they could do some uninterrupted wholesale shopping with the large selection vendors and all of their cannabis infused wares in a businessto-business only open house for a couple of hours, and then at 5PM all of the attendees were allowed inside so they could get their gift bags, make the rounds to all the booths and tables and gather any swag and free samples being offered, and also to buy any products they cared to get. Although there wasn’t smoking allowed inside, there was plenty of vaping going on and an incredible variety of edibles available for guests and contestants to consume on site. The dinner was catered by Sweet Jay’s Barbecue and had the option of infused or non-infused sauces to go with the pulled pork, chicken, salad, and mac n’ cheese.

PRODUCT REVIEW Fuzzies Live Pre-Roll Joints by Sublime
Jack Paradise
Fuzzies are the award winning new pre-rolled joint made by Sublime, and they’re also a new favorite over here! Each one is over a full gram of top shelf cannabis flower rolled in Raw hemp papers, coated in CO2 wax, infused with full spectrum terpenes, and dusted in wonderful kief. The kief is what gives Fuzzies their name, and also makes handling them easy as it keeps the wax from sticking to your fingers. Fuzzies are available in Indica: OG Kush, or Sativa: Super Silver Haze. Full size fuzzies come in a pop-top tube, and you can also get a threepack of Mini Fuzzies that come in a small tin with a sliding lid. Either style is easy to transport in your pocket, and both have packaging that keeps the goods well protected. The effects of medicating with these pre-rolls is outstanding. They burn nice and slow, and have a combination feeling that hits in layers and waves as the wax, flower, terps, and kief each take turns hitting the senses and enhancing one another. The Indica joint was very mellow and relaxing, and really made sitting on the couch and watching a few episodes of “American Dad” really enjoyable late at night. The Sativa pre-roll was enjoyed early the next day, and led to a few fun-filled hours that blossomed with creativity. If you don’t feel the need to indulge in a whole Fuzzie all at once, just put it out and stick it back in it’s case until you’re ready to finish it - and it will be waiting for you whenever you are.

Lent is here this month, and so is Saint Patrick's Day, The Ides of March, Purim, Ash Wednesday and more. There were actually too many holidays going on for us to settle on a single cohesive theme, but after considering a myriad of ideas, our menu wound up an amalgam of all the best dishes we discussed - and we discovered they go together really well. You'll think so too, so enjoy the meal!

Last, whisk in the lime juice. It will look curdled at first, but just whisk it vigorously and it will become smooth. Mixture should be very thick, like pudding. Scoop the mixture into the crust and bake for ~16 minutes, or until set (when you move the pan, the center should jiggle slightly but stay in place, like jello) Let cool for ~2 hours, then cover and refrigerate overnight. EVENT RECAP KEIKO
L.C. Squared
Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood serves as the beginning of an unorthodox yet beautiful friendship between local cannabis cultivation company Soulshine Cannabis and Emerald City Pet Rescue. “We wanted to make sure that our company was giving back somehow,” said Co-founder Mike Mercer who has 18 years of experience in Mortgage Banking. Soulshine was aiming to donate a percentage of profits to animal charity due to an interesting connection between pot and pet, which Mercer claims, “one out of every two people that go into a cannabis retail store owns a pet.” Unfortunately, many were reluctant to associate themselves with the cannabis industry, with one potential taker having a board member object to the partnership by threatening to never donate any more money. Luckily, Emerald City Pet Rescue had no scruples about taking money that came from marijuana sales. Soulshine has been donating 1% of their gross retail sales to Emerald City and has done much more. Vanessa Cason of Emerald City claims, “They've been amazing. Not only do they make significant donations, but they help out with events, fundraisers, and we get to help them out with vendor days around the city at various shops.” The claim of cannabis lovers also being pet lovers proved to be correct as one of Belltown’s retail stores Have A Heart held a vendor day in which shoppers fawned over the adoptable rescue dogs brought on display by Emerald City as they browsed through wide selections of cannabis products. Mercer and Soulshine hope that other marijuana companies may follow their lead and grow cannabis for a cause. Issue No. 32 I Page 43

Israel Decriminalizes The Use of Cannabis L.C. Squared
On Sunday, cannabis legalization took a big leap forward as the Israeli Cabinet approved a proposal to decriminalize cannabis use which was formulated by the Public Security and Justice ministries. While smoking cannabis in public is still illegal, first-time offenders will only face a fine of at least $250 rather than criminal charges. A second strike will double the fine to $500 while a third will have the offender undergo rehabilitation and education as well as a suspension of their driver’s license. The fourth will be the final straw as the offender will face charges and possible incarceration. Money collected from the fines will fund anti-drug education and rehabilitation. If minors are caught using cannabis, they would only face a criminal investigation if they refuse to partake in the treatment program. The reform was headed by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan who said that the arrest policy was reexamined due to global legalization efforts. He deemed the cabinet approval as, “an important step on the way to implementing the new policy that will put emphasis on explaining and treating rather than on criminal enforcement," which reinforces his declarations in January that criminal prosecution should only be a last resort. The chairwoman of the Committee of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Tamar Zandberg, applauded this measure by saying, “this is an important step, but not the end of the road. It sends a message that the millions of Israelis who consume marijuana aren’t criminals. We will carry on following the details in the committee and ensure that the change is implemented.” Israel’s cannabis industry has been backed by the Ministry of Health whose ultra-Orthodox leader has encouraged its research and innovation. While there may have been only a few dozen users of medical marijuana a decade ago, today there are approximately 25,000 users. Saul Kaye, the CEO of iCan, an Israeli cannabis entrepreneurship enabler predicts bright times ahead due to this measure. “Decriminalizing cannabis in Israel is another step towards creating a Canna-Tech global industry, with Israel at the forefront, he said, “This step, although not legitimizing use, is due to reduce the negative perception of the plant as 'immoral or 'criminal', increasing openness to its outstanding medicinal and wellness properties.” Issue No. 33 I Page 42

US NEWS
Gavin Newsom's Letter to President Trump & Jeff Sessions on Cannabis President Donald J Trump The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear President Trump, Marijuana has been grown, cultivated, sold, and consumed for centuries – it is not new. But through our draconian and prohibitionist policies, we have outsourced much of this industry to an illicit market of criminals and drug cartels who have no regard for public safety and public health, especially as it relates to our children. The War on Marijuana has failed. It did not, and will not, keep marijuana out of kids’ hands. A 2014 National Institute on Drug Abuse study showed that, despite cannabis' classification by the federal government as a Schedule 1 illegal substance, 34-percent of 10th graders had used cannabis – making the substance more prevalent among this age group than the highly regulated and legal tobacco industry (23 percent). Protecting youth and promoting public health and safety is
paramount. We can’t continue to keep doing what we’ve done and expect a different result. A tightly regulated marketplace for adult recreational marijuana use is a new and better approach. California’s legal marketplace will include strict regulations on the business of cultivation, distribution, and retail, a “seed-to-sale” tracking system, rigorous laboratory testing of the product, and strict packaging requirements. Creating a legal and tightly regulated recreational marijuana marketplace has massive public support. Voters recognize that policies of the past have failed us, and have approved this new approach up and down the entire western U.S. coast. Last November, nearly eight million Californians voted to legalize recreational marijuana in our state. A Quinnipiac poll released yesterday says that 71-percent of US voters says that the government should not interfere with states that passed legalized marijuana and during your campaign, you committed to honoring states' rights when it comes to marijuana legalization. The government must not strip EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
the legal and publicly-supported industry of its business, and hand it back to drug cartels and criminals. Dealers don’t card kids. I urge you and your administration to work in partnership with California and the other eight states that have legalized recreational marijuana for adult use in a way that will let us enforce our state laws that protects the public and our children, while targeting the bad actors. We have a shared goal of reducing crime, and the best way we can achieve that is through a tightly regulated market. Finally, with regard to your Press Secretary’s grossly misinformed comments, marijuana is nothing like an opioid and there is no scientific evidence that marijuana use increases the use of opioids. Unlike marijuana, opioids represent an addictive and harmful substance, and I would welcome your administration’s focused efforts on tackling this particular public health crisis. Sincerely, GAVIN NEWSOM Lieutenant Governor of California cc: U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions

Measure M Passes in Los Angeles
Jack Paradise
On Tuesday March 7th, Measure M, the City Council backed ballot measure aiming to regulate cannabis businesses in Los Angeles passed by an overwhelming majority when over 80% of voters approved the measure. The LA City Council will be granted the authority to create and amend regulations concerning marijuana commercialization when it comes to the taxation of cannabis sales. In November, Californians voted for the approval of Prop 64, which was the legalization of marijuana in the state, but didn't offer any kind of understandable explanation when it came to who could cultivate, extract, infuse, or distribute cannabis, and cannabis related products. Now, a gross receipts tax of 5% will start being imposed on medical marijuana, and recreational cannabis will have a 10% gross receipts tax. Cultivation, manufacturing, transportation, and research will have a 1% gross receipts tax. The LA City Council can now issue permits and be responsible for cannabis transportation regulation as well. Measure M will also provide the industry a set of local laws and rules that will cover a number of different factors such as: what hours can cannabis businesses operate, and where can they be located? The passage of Measure M effectively repeals the 2013 ballot initiative Proposition D, which outlawed medical cannabis dispensaries while at the same time giving “limited legal immunity to approximately 135 existing dispensaries, considered to be Pre-ICO, because they were operating before the Interim Control Ordinance of 2007. The competing ballot measure, Measure N, would have mostly given control over to the 135 Pre-ICO dispensaries. It was voted against by 64% of voters. Most of those who had initially backed Measure N eventually began supporting M instead. Issue No. 33 I Page 46

Measure U Passes in La Mesa, San Diego allowing Cannabis Regulation and Manufacturing
B. Le Grand
Medical marijuana dispensaries have received the okay in La Mesa, with the narrow approval of voters Tuesday to regulate the business.
Edibles Magazine Issue 33
Measure U received 51.41 percent of the vote on Tuesday March 7th's election, with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. It needed a simple majority — more than 50 percent — to pass. The citizen-sponsored initiative prohibits growing cannabis in residential zones, authorizes and regulates medical marijuana dispensaries, and limits commercial cultivation sites to industrial and manufacturing zones with a permit issued by the city. Opponents said the measure doesn’t do enough to protect the community, while the supporters said Measure U will provide oversight and transparency. La Mesa rejected a similar ballot measure in 2012, and banned the cultivation and manufacturing of medical marijuana, and the operation of dispensaries.
