Edibles Magazine Issue 32

LETTER FROM THETEXT EDITOR HERE TEXT HERE

Greetings my friends.

Edibles Magazine Issue 32

This month is our “Technology Issue” and we’ve got Root Sciences featured as our cover story to help celebrate the future of cannabis concentrates: Distillate! We got into the extra super scientific details with the minds behind Root Sciences’ tech to learn everything we could about the short path distillation process and what it means to modern medical cannabis and edibles. We went to the Las Vegas Nightclub and Bar Expo, as this is the first year that they’ve also included cannabis. The Canna-Community presence at the expo was small but mighty and we made some great new friends. Edibles CEO and founder, B. Le Grand, moderated the “Infusion without Confusion” panel and was able to bring infused education to the heart of Sin City. It was probably the best time we’ve ever had in Las Vegas and are excited to go back soon.

4/20 is coming soon and our events guide is full of fun things to plan on doing, but be careful. The new laws are confusing and some events have already been shut down or moved so please use the websites and social media to stay up-to-date on exactly what’s happening and where. Speaking of 4/20, it seems most, or at least a lot of people know the origin story behind 420 (we printed it last year.) The “Waldos” at San Rafael High School in the 1970s and their after class smoke breaks.. But what about the other 420s out there? We’ve assembled 7 Other Significant 420 coincidences and ironies to help you have something new to talk about next time you toke up at that time of the day. Last month we published an obituary for iO West, the beloved Hollywood improv comedy theater was closed suddenly and Issue No. 44 I Page 10

it was sad news. Now, Meltdown Comics and Collectibles on Sunset Blvd, Home of the NerdMelt Theater, has also been closed and just as suddenly (also just as sad.) Meltdown was one of the 1st places I went when I moved to Los Angeles back in the Summer of 2006 and in 2013 it was where I finally wound up meeting Adam West. The dearly departed Gian Molina and I used to perform with ComicBook LIVE and Drunkards and Dragons on the stage in the back. DJ Reid 420 and I would go there for FREE Comic Book Day and it’s where I helped Chris Gore film a live/streaming telethon to help save Film Threat magazine. I watched Kevin Eastman and Mark Bode spray paint a graffiti mural of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the roof of the store in the alleyway and we smoked weed and drank beer the whole time. It was my comic book store and I’ll miss it. This issue marks the beginning of a new section of Edibles List Magazine - The Games Section! We’re starting off with a special crossword puzzle. The answers will be available online or you can also find them printed in the next issue, so good luck. As always, smile at your budtender, tip your delivery driver, and know your dose. “Truth is not obliged to stick to the possibilities.”

Admission to Her Royal Highness includes entrance to the Queen Mary to tour and visit its exhibits.

On January 1, 2018 many Californians welcomed Proposition 64 with open arms. Baby boomers, Gen-Xers and Millennials alike scurried to the few licensed dispensaries for their first chance at, “legal weed” in the adult use market. Tickets available online for $40 and $50 at the door https://impactflow.com/event/her-royal-highness-6925 Although, prop 64 clearly states that it is only for the 21 and over adult community, many people who are “green” to the green believe the plant has been completely legalized. The truth is, the legality of the plant is still at question until it is federally rescheduled, the consumer will have to abide by city and state law surrounding the plant. Prop 64 provided a beginning to a recreational/ adult use cannabis state. The new law would regulate the adult and medical sales of the cannabis plant within regulated licensed dispensaries. These new laws regulated every part of the cannabis industry from cultivation and manufacturing to distribution, sales and events.

Recently the Orange County Chapter of the National Organization that reforms Marijuana laws (OC NORML) attempted to organize a hemp-based CBD event on the Queen Mary, Her Royal Highness (HRH). As an educational outsource for this industry they wanted to organize an event directed towards the population of people interested in learning more about the plant called cannabis and its’ close cousin, hemp. Her Royal Highness was to take place on April 20, 2018 otherwise known as, 420 day the nationally recognized holiday surrounding the cannabis and hemp industry. HRH was promoted through social media as an educational CBD event with no THC sales allowed for the 21+ crowd. The direction of this event was to promote their new campaign targeting the Prop 64 adult use community instructing consumers to, “go low and slow” in reference to trying cannabis as medicine or recreation. Along with this message, Her Royal Highness wanted to

Unfortunately, the city of Long Beach stopped this event stating that hemp derived CBD products can only be sold in licensed dispensaries using code 5.90 of the Long Beach municipality as well as MAUCRSA (Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act). While hemp and cannabis products both appear to come from the same plant, they are more like cousins. Hemp is typically distinguished by its use, physical appearance and lower concentration of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp producers often grow the plant for the one or more parts that include the seeds, flowers and stalk. The plant is cultivated to grow taller, denser and with a single stalk. The core of volunteering with NORML is to understand its fundamentals of how to protect the community and advocate for policy change when faced with discrimination or misrepresentation of the laws surrounding cannabis. Kandice Hawes, the Director of OC NORML stated, “Cancelling HRH was a long and hard thought out decision but we could not go forward and put our sponsors and attendees in jeopardy. OC NORML is hoping they can work with the city to reach clarification on Industrial Hemp CBD in the city of Long Beach. On Tuesday, April 3 some members on the board of OC NORML attended a Long Beach City hearing to discuss the abrupt end to the planning of their event. During public comment, the Director, Events Officer and Community Outreach Officer spoke on behalf of all areas that were impacted by the cities choice to shut down hemp derived CBD sales at our event, educating the council as to the difference from Hemp and CBD as well as citing the codes and correlation to MAUCRSA that Long Beach referenced as the reason Her Royal Highness could not allow the hemp derived CBD to be at or be sold at the event. If this does not change, OC NORML worries that there will be further damage to the hemp community and entrepreneurs of this industry.

Root Sciences is helping the cannabis industry evolve to the next level of concentrates by creating specialized distillation equipment you’d think belongs in a science fiction film. Using technological wizardry and good old fashioned hard work, they’re perfecting the science that will make creating edibles and other infused products seem like pure magic! Root Sciences:

Leading the Future of Concentrates Patrick Ian Moore

How do you make edibles that don’t taste like cannabis? The answer is distillate. But just what is distillate and how exactly is it made?

You can eat it, you can dab it, you can vape it, you can rub it on your skin. Cannabis distillation is the process of purifying crude oil that was processed via extraction. Typical solvent extraction methods utilize a hydrocarbon like butane (BHO), propane (PHO), methane (MHO), carbon dioxide (Co2) and Ethanol (sometimes known as RSO which stands for Rick Simpson Oil). Each has their pros and cons. We often get the question from our readers whether or not RSO is better than distillate. To clarify for our readers, RSO would be the crude oil you distill to make a clear clean oil. SUSPENDED BRANDS TOLL PROCESSING FACILITY IN WASHINGTON STATE

Distillation is also referred to as molecular separation, as the processing removes the fats, lipids, waxes, chlorophyll, and other undesirable molecules which dilute the potency of the cannabinoids. Distillation can be performed using a few different technologies, which is absolutely perfect because this is our Technology issue. We’ll be exploring the details and applications of the Root Sciences tech and how it’s being used

Root Sciences, a family business run by two sets of brothers, is the worldwide leader in distillation equipment. We recently had the opportunity to sit down and speak to co-founder Nenad Yashruti, about their next level technology and the importance of high quality distillate when it comes to the future of infusing edibles. One of the first things he said was, “It’s the evolution of concentrates."

way to distill any botanical. Less expensive short path and desktop systems can distill cannabis oil, but you will experience product degradation and clouding as the process isn't perfect like the wiped film system. Root Sciences is the exclusive global distributor for VTA, the global leader in the distillation business. VTA stands for Verfahrenstechnische Anlagen, which is German for “Process Engineering Plants.” The VTA system uses a proprietary wiper system designed to precisely agitate and descend the oil down the evaporation chamber to ensure a consistent separation. Ultimately, once crude oil is winterized and filtered, then distilled, the end result is always the same. Molecular Separation technology is solvent free and in the end only the cannabinoids

are targeted. Extraction began over a decade ago using a very crude “open blast” method using solvents flowing through a tube which was exposed to the open air. The solvent would travel in the tube and soak the cannabis plant matter extracting cannabinoids as well as other undesirable molecules. This was explosive and extremely dangerous. This is what created the negative stigma of extraction at the onset. Since then, closed looped systems, and the method of using various solvents has replaced that process and has dramatically increased safety. Today, closed loop systems are much safer and we haven't heard of a single explosion since regulation has come into play. Co2 is the safest but the slowest requiring the most expensive equipment. Ethanol is flammable but not as volatile as the least stable solvents

which are butane and propane. Nenad Yashruti says, “Distillate can be viewed as an ingredient. It has replaced everything crude oil was used for before distillate was made available. The potency is so high (in the upper 90% range of total cannabinoids), you don't have to use as much in your recipes. Additionally, drinkables won't have fats and waxes floating in the bottle. We also have the ability to put the terpenes back in the distillate for natural flavored vape cartridges or dab products for a very pristine cannabis taste and product. What if you want some flavor? There are a number of ways to handle terpenes. Usually, the terpenes are separated the same way we separate cannabinoids from the crude oil (chlorophyll, fats and waxes). We use different parameters using the wiped film evaporation system. By adjusting the temperatures throughout the process, we allow the cannabinoids to remain with the

The equipment Root Sciences uses was invented twenty four years ago in Germany. It is still manufactured in a state of the art brand new factory in Germany. VTA has developed proprietary pumps which allow for superior automation, workflow, and efficiency and the design doesn't require the operator to touch the glass parts of the system. These are expensive parts and if broken, you have down time that can be costly. They mitigate this by removing the need to touch glass. It is the most advanced system on the market with this technology. Half a million 10mg doses in one 8 hour day are possible using this technology, and it’s capable of running twenty four hours a day. There are three different out-of-the box sizes of machine available: one

heavier molecules on the first pass and effectively try to evaporate off the terpenes at a low temperature. Due to the fact that the evaporation chamber is sealed and under vacuum, the terpenes condense on the condenser coil and move down the system and are dispelled using the discharge arm. Currently, CBD and THC are the in-demand cannabinoids and consumers want them in high doses. Reintroducing terpenes allows you to maintain a strain specific or a strain mix of your choice to create a flavor and taste of your choice as well as the health benefits of the terps themselves. You have the ability to make any distillate taste like OG Kush for example if you use OG Kush terps, even if your distillate was derived from a mix of any genetics. The difference is you can have a distillate that tastes like OG Kush, but could have a way higher CBD content if you used high CBD flower to make the distillate.

“It is only a matter of time before full adult use legalization happens. It is unfortunate for the United States, and fortunate for Canada that the US Government has chosen to keep things this way for now. Canada has become the global leader in how cannabis should be handled. It isn't without hurdles and mistakes, but the moves Canada is making will ensure its position as the industry leader”, for now.

18

Yashruti went on to tell us, “We started in this business by building Suspended Brands in Washington State. We had our sights set on ancillary parts of the business and knew we needed to be a practitioner first. We ended up building a state of the art, first of its kind facility that was featured in many industry publications and really established our management team as thought leaders in the industry. We started with extraction [all three main types] and very quickly recognized how powerful cannabis distillation was. As the industry leader in distillation and lab equipment, we take immense pride in quality and service. Many times manufacturers will over promise and under deliver. As a distributor which has an affiliate licensed entity, we give demos of anything we offer and allow prospective buyers and clients to come to our facility to see things first hand. We have also built the most valuable network of the “who is who” in cannabis processing.

thousand, three thousand, or 10,000 grams per hour. Distillate seems to be the perfect starting point for anything cannabis related and really allows you to work with cannabinoids which carry the entourage effect of the genetics you grew. The entourage effect is what you experience when cannabinoids like THC and CBD are used together and synergistically provide stronger benefits than either is capable of alone and are closer to a “whole plant” feeling.

DISTILLATE ON THE LEFT, CRUDE OIL ON THE RIGHT

Our equipment is the most expensive, but it is by far better than anything on the market as it is being designed and updated continuously where other older technology systems have stagnated.” What is the distillate difference? One of the biggest differences is the potency and purity. These factors lead to fast acting, long lasting, blissful feeling experiences. Because THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis and primary cannabinoid that makes up distillate, getting it in the high concentrations offered by distillate allows consumers and patients to feel much higher, of course, but not only that. Stronger and more concentrated doses of THC can be much more effective in the treatment of serious medical patients who need to alleviate suffering from nausea and vomiting caused by cancer and cancer medications. For recreational users it offers a highly economical and enjoyable experience when used for dabbing, vaping, or glazing (frosting with concentrate) blunts and joints. It’s very easy to dispense from pyrex syringes and the viscosity allows for a diverse array of perfect applications. You’ll notice that your dab rig stays much nicer and is easier to clean with no black or burnt gunk left behind. You’ll also

There really can’t be enough emphasis put on the importance of purity when it comes to medical patients and how vital high doses in strong concentrations are when it comes to healing extreme pain. Patients who suffer from illnesses and ailments often have compromised immune systems and need to be extra vigilant about the purity and cleanliness of what goes into their bodies. There’s also no other way to regularly be able to medicate with tetrahydrocannabinol in such high doses, so distillate offers the perfect product for patients who suffer from serious pain brought on by arthritis, diabetes, or nerve damage and helps stop muscle spasms, in addition to so many other physical problems that cause patients to suffer like inflammation and hypertension. Some of the awesome companies you are very familiar with use distillate to produce their cannabis infused products, including Dr. Norm’s, Cookies, Nectar Stick, Mystery Baking Company and Dank Tank. The market in each state will vary upon demand and regulations. Currently, California customers are poised to continue paying premium prices for premium products. Regulations and taxes in other states have created an environment where price sensitivity has forced businesses to really review their business model. Distillate is a premium product when processed properly and with the right equipment. Premium flower will always have its place in the market, but this requires a skill set much different than the skills you need in a lab. Much like premium flower, other concentrates will always have a place in the market such as waxes, shatters, and sauces. Consistency is difficult to achieve in these premium products so our projections are that these high end, flavor rich concentrates

will be boutique in nature and only the best of the best extraction techs and chemists will survive. Mediocre concentrates will be a thing of the past very soon.

The Men Behind Company The Root Sciences four founding partners, are two sets of brothers who grew up together. Collectively they have over 50 years of business experience in different industries, which they say were all integral to their success.

“Getting into the industry was a no brainer. We wanted to work together and as medical cannabis progressed, we kept a close eye on it. When we felt we could add value to the industry and build something special, we jumped in. We feel that we have given the little guy, the ability to get a jump start as larger national companies pivot into cannabis. They [the larger companies] currently use the same equipment we are offering to smaller business owners and entrepreneurs. Our hope is that our clients have a chance to create the highest quality, best tasting, most precisely dosed products that would actually create a barrier for the ultra large companies eying the space, or at least level the playing field a bit. As things scale up, we have the ability to build very large custom systems to handle the hemp industry as well as larger, international marijuana processors.” Root Sciences will continue to increase

Additionally, Root Sciences is working closely with an affiliate company, Roots Consulting and Marketing, on research and development initiatives which will advance the industry further. They are also exploring other extraction and separation technology and will have new offerings in the coming years. Innovation is what they’re good at and they enjoy seeing their clients excited when they bring new ideas and opportunities to them. They are currently growing very fast and have an incredible runway of good things in front of them, and feel very fortunate and excited for the future. What’s even better is they are bringing their experience in the Washington adult use market to California’s newly legalized industry and beyond.

Michigan State Regulators Close 200+ Cannabis Shops Patrick Ian Moore

Michigan state regulators ordered the closure of 210 medical cannabis businesses over a twoweek period, mostly due to the fact that the owners failed to apply for the proper state licensing by a middle of February deadline, or they didn’t receive authorization from their own municipalities. Businesses that didn’t immediately have to close could still be denied being able to get licensing in the future when they apply. They could be referred to local, state or federal law enforcement, or face other relatively harsh penalties or serious sanctions that may include steep fines and fees many might not be able to afford.

with them.” The list of business identities was easily gathered by the state from public, online resources. Harns continued to say that the state has yet to follow up on the operation but they’ve still been in touch with some of the shops in various cities.

The city of Detroit was home to the majority of shops forced to close, 159 businesses total. Authorities also hand-delivered orders to 8 businesses in Lansing, 7 in Flint, 5 in Gaylord, 3 each in Ann Arbor and Battle Creek (the birthplace of Rob Van Dam), and even more scattered throughout the state. The spokesman for the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, “After the news of the first round of letters hit, David Harns, which now includes the Bureau of we found a lot more had voluntarily closed Medical Marihuana Regulation, had this to say: before we got there… We haven’t checked back to see if they’re all still operating, but we’ve had a number of businesses contact us to dispute that they’re operating illegally." “More often than not, medical use card providers are running a scam that places patients in legal jeaprody… We had our team scour publicly available information to create a list and then we cross-referenced it with those who did turn in applications… Our team is receiving phone calls from people who have questions about this… If they feel like they received a letter in error, we obviously have an open form of communication

It seems worth noting that the “Bureau of Medical Marihuana Regulation” is using an “H” in the spelling of marijuana. According to NPR, this was first done in a Los Angeles Times story from 1905, 'Delirium or Death: Terrible Effects Produced by Certain Plants and Weeds Grown in Mexico', where they said "People who smoke marihuana finally lose their mind and never recover it, but their brains dry up and they die, most of times suddenly."

Canadian Cannabis Stocks Might Not Be Such a Buzzkill

Tommy Knowledge

On March 30th, a story about investing in Canadian cannabis stocks titled "Marijuana Stocks Could Be a Buzzkill" by Bill Alpert was published in Barron's. Many investors, people from the cannabis industry, and citizens of Canada found many of the ideas in the story to be pessimistic and wondered if people might be scared without actual good reasons. Some of the opinions expressed by Alpert in the article state, “A Canada weed glut is a real risk. At current valuations, marijuana stocks are already too high for an investor tempted to join the party… There’s reason to believe revenue forecasts are overly optimistic. Most predictions fail to consider the dizzying price drops registered in states like Colorado and Washington after they legalized marijuana. In both states, supply gluts have pushed cannabis prices down more than 10% in each of the past two years.”

Edibles Magazine Issue 44

Palwasha Saaim, a Research Analyst at Lombardi Financial writing for the website ‘Profit Confidential’, blamed the article for a new round of sell-offs being faced by some top marijuana stocks. In her PC story titled ‘Barron’s Story “Marijuana Stocks Could be a Buzzkill” Actually Portrays Optimism’, she stated that the over-negativity is unnecessary and that there are plenty of things to feel positive about.

24

She said, “A flaw in the article’s line of reasoning is that it doesn’t take into account the fact that, in most cases, Canada’s provincial governments, not individual producers, will be setting the per-gram sales price for recreational pot… Also, the article doesn’t take into account the fact that many of the large producers are now generating a significantly growing amount of revenue from international sales. So the potential market for these Canadian marijuana companies is not limited to Canada.” She goes on to say - “While the Barron’s story about the marijuana industry identifies some major concerns, it fails to take a holistic view. Canadian marijuana growers are on top of their game and show potential

for global growth. Plus, not every marijuana stock can be weighed on the same scale. At least some of the top Canadian cannabis stocks have the ability to withstand possible upheavals in the industry. So don’t fall prey to this pessimism.” In fact, less than a week after the Barron’s report was printed and on the same day as the Profit Confidential story, Jen Skerritt's Bloomberg article, 'Marijuana Millionaires Ride Canada’s Legalization Wave', reported that “Canopy Growth rose as much as 6.8 percent and was up 1.7 percent to $28.11 at 9:53 a.m. in Toronto. Aurora Cannabis surged as much as 7.5 percent and Aphria gained 7.4 percent.” At this time, Cannabis in Canada is only legal for medicinal purposes and only under conditions outlined by the ACMPR: Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations. The Cannabis Act, Bill C-45, which is Canada’s legislation to legalize recreational cannabis use, was passed by the federal House of Commons in November of last year and it passed a second reading in the Senate on March 22, 2018. The final vote won’t actually be until June 2018 and the bill would then be effective in the summer, as longasit’sapprovedintime.,but individualterritories have yet to figure out a licensing process. Canadian health insurance companies are covering cannabis now so clearly there is much to be hopeful about.. The lesson seems to as least partially be that you shouldn’t panic based on only one article you read on one day. Always check other sources and see what the experts are saying, not only about that particular industry but also in regards to what country you’re reading about and what the global effects might be. Investing in publicly traded cannabis companies is a pretty new idea to be putting into any kind of real time application on a large scale. If you plan on investing, always do your research and good luck making that money.

Place 2 halves on each plate and top with about 1/3 cup of ganja gravy. Enjoy at anytime of day.

Marijuana Madness Makes the history of Cannabis Prohibition Fun

ULTRASONICS for Cannabis

Alyssa Marquez

My name is Alyssa Marquez aka Miss Marquez and I am the Artistic Director and Co-producer of Marijuana Madness. Marijuana Madness is a Live Jazz and Burlesque show that tells the true Tale of Cannabis Prohibition and those Jazz Musicians who were targeted by it. With Recreational Cannabis being legalized here in California in 2018, I decided it was the perfect time to debut the show. Legalization not only made it easier to incorporate a Cannabis tasting experience, but also because I wanted to share the history of Cannabis Prohibition and I thought Burlesque would be the perfect platform.

I chose to partner with the high-end Cannabis event company GRASSFED for their unique and eloquent approach to 1:16 PM Cannabis events and Tastings. Together with my Co-Producers, GRASSFED, we are able to provide an elevated live performance experience unlike any other. GRASSFED specializes in a healthy and conscious approach to Cannabis similar to a wine tasting. I’m proud to say that we incorporate some of the best Cannabis Brands in the industry, including Flower by Flow kana, Artisan Edible Chocolates by To Whom It May and Organic Cannabis powder by Mondo just to name a few. After debuting Marijuana Madness in January at the beautiful Three Clubs in Hollywood, we finished out our 3-month residency with 3 sold out shows and are excited to announce that we will be taking the show to a larger venue at the oldest live music venue on the Westside, Harvelle’s Jazz Club. Marijuana Madness is a mix of burlesque performances, live jazz, and vaudeville inspired narrative theater. The show is truly an interactive experience. By utilizing Jazz music from the era and combining it with Burlesque, we bring the anti-marijuana propaganda campaigns from the late thirties and forties to life. Marijuana Madness parodies the ludicrous claims that Cannabis is going to affect one’s moral inhibitions and instantly make one into a crazy dope fiend who indulges in wild orgies and debauchery. I hope that when people experience Marijuana Madness they leave with a better understanding of the absurd reasons why Cannabis was made illegal in the first place, and see the parallels between then and where we are now. MBCO Edibles Cannabis Brownie 100mg

Edibles Magazine Issue 44

Hughie Stone Fish

The Mystery Baking Company Edibles Cannabis Brownie comes in a slick silver outer packaging, and when you break it open, a beautifully wrapped brownie awaits you. This brownie itself looks like it could have been taken out of your 5th grade lunchbox, which makes it the perfect brownie to put in your adult lunch box. The back of the silver outer package has a huge 100 MG sticker, so there is no doubt as to how much THC you’re holding. It’s a brownie that tastes like a brownie; a far cry from the homemade pot brownies of yesteryear, which tasted like you were eating a cannabis sandwich on cannabis bread dipped in cannabis sauce. Remember those? Oy. MBCO Edibles Cannabis

Brownie has no strong weed flavor, no frosting, and no shenanigans. With a light crunch on the outside and a soft middle, this chews like any classic confectionery treat. You are on your own to divvy up the 100 mg as you will of this amply sized edible, and I found that my guesstimate got me exactly where I needed: Relaxed and calm, while still engaged with my surroundings and carrying on conversations with friends. The high was both light and creative while I was wanting to be active, and able to transition to night time, when I wanted to watch Coach Snoop and eventually count some sheep. Your preferred dosage of an MBCO Edibles Cannabis Brownie paired with a cup of coffee is an excellent afternoon pick me up. If you’re into this sort of thing, take it before going to the gym and watch it boost you up while you’re working out, and then relax you while you’re in the sauna. I recommend this brownie to anyone looking for an edible treat that is comforting, cozy, tasty, and versatile.

Smokin' Mike Beef Jerky Aaron Tocchi

A refreshing protein packed break from the standard carbohydrate filled dessert edibles; Smokin Mike's Beef Jerky is a bold, unique, and seriously delicious way to medicate. At first I was a bit hesitant to try cannabis infused jerky, but after taking one bite I was completely sold. The texture and taste is that of a premium jerky you might find at a farmers market, with almost none of the weed taste that's usually typical with edibles, just pure salt and peppery jerked meat goodness.

Can You Spot The Pot?

I would absolutely recommend Smokin' Mike's to people with active lifestyles, or that have restrictive diets that don't include sugary gluten packed desserts. Perfect to take on hikes and eat on the summit before a relaxing walk down, or a nice snack while you're playing a pick up game of basketball with your friends. It's the first place winner of Edible Magazines own Best Beef Jerky Award in 2016 and is industry recognized for high quality and effectiveness. Each pack is 100mg of THC that is easy to dole out individual doses, watch out though because just like normal jerky it's so satisfying you might eat the whole bag in one sitting! To my surprise it was quite fast acting too. Within 5 minutes of eating half a strip, about 5mg of THC, I could already feel a nice uplifting high coming on. I hadn't really eaten a full meal that day so I promptly finished off the rest of the bag, savoring the delicious THC and protein filled snack. Instead of the bloating heavy feel I get from eating most medicated baked goods, I found Smokin Mike's to be very light on my stomach and have a clean high. The high was so clean and uplifting in fact, I decided to walk to the store and grab groceries. The sun was out, the weather was great, and I felt amazing. With groceries in hand I returned home happy, high , and craving more jerky.

Vita Dreamz CBD Sleep Aid Aaron Tocchi

Vita Dreamz is a proprietary blend of vitamins and nutrients, combined with hempderived CBD oil that is restorative and formulated to help you sleep peacefully, and boy does it. It's a tasty little shot that within 30 minutes will have you naturally feeling drowsy and ready for bed. Each bottle contains 10mg of CBD and absolutely no THC, so you never have to worry about a surprise drug test if you just want some quality sleep. Like a lot of people for most of my life I've struggled with sleeping problems. It can be hard for me when I take sleep aids to find a good balance between a rested nights sleep and feeling like a zombie the entire next day. I've also tried Melatonin, but every time it feels like it doesn't do anything. With Vita Dreamz I didn't have that experience at all. 30

minutes before I wanted to go to sleep I pulled up an episode of Brooklyn 99, loaded up a small bowl, and drank a Vita Dreamz; by the end of the episode I was already nodding off and on my way to dreamland. I woke up the next morning feeling alert, present, and ready to start the day, so much so I almost skipped my morning coffee. Almost. The branding and design of the bottle is on point too, as it looks like 5-hour energy's chill older brother. The bottle it comes in is small, pocket sized, and easy to bring with you wherever. Vita Dreamz is sold on their website in packs of 3 and 7, and there are several cozy flavors to choose from such as Lucid Lime, Midnight Mango, and SlumberBerry. It's sugar-free, 0-calories, and all natural. Active ingredients are Melatonin, CBD, 5-HTP, GABA, Magnesium, Potassium, Choline, Vitamin B6 and other helpful vitamins and nutrients. Slactavis’s CBD Cannabis syrup is four fluid ounces of pure pain relief. This particular product is made with RSO, or Rick Simpson Oil, a type of concentrated cannabis oil known to have many health benefits. Those experiencing drug withdrawal or cancerrelated pain symptoms will definitely want to try this medication out, although I’d recommend it to anyone who needs some soothing. The texture of this product is very viscous, much like cough syrup but slightly thicker. Unlike other edible medications, this medication does not include a suggested dosing (it does, however, mention to avoid drinking the entire bottle unless you have a free day ahead of you). Personally, I tried this very potent medical hashish during some unpleasant menstrual cramps and found myself not only relaxed

after ingesting it, but also dramatically more comfortable pain-wise. For my dosing, I roughly split the bottle into quarters and made sure to have a chaser nearby because I found the aftertaste to be slightly unpalatable. The effects lasted about three hours and although it was very calming, I never got sleepy. There is no THC in this product, so I was fine using this at work (but please don’t operate heavy machinery while using). For my final dose, I paired it with a hybrid joint and a bath— the perfect combination for stress relief. My pain dissolved as well as any worry or concern. The entire bottle is only 120 calories with 12 grams of sugar and 30 milligrams of carbohydrates. This specific bottle I tried was dyed red and flavored with vanilla. The ingredients are simple, no weird chemicals or additives. Talk to your physician and budtender to make sure this potent medication is right for you. Landlord Sues City of San Bernardino Nicole B. Stephanie Smith, the owner of a business called Bubba Likes Tortillas, and claims to be California’s largest landlord of marijuana businesses sued the city of San Bernardino to overturn its cannabis regulation ordinance that could bar her from the industry.

Smith said in the lawsuit filed in late March in San Bernardino County Superior Court that the city’s new law could create monopolies and also prevent her from renting property to growers and other marijuana operations. The dispute dates back to December when a building Smith owns was raided, cultivation operations her clients were operating were shut down and 35,000 marijuana plants were seized. Smith was not involved with growing and she was not arrested or charged, her attorney Ben Eilenberg said. After the raids, a judge invalidated a voter-approved measure to regulate marijuana operations and San Bernardino City Council passed its own measure to replace it. The new regulations stated that anyone — from a permit applicant or an employee of a cannabis business to the owner of a property — could be banned from commercial cannabis business in the city if they had violated local or state laws related to the industry or if they had failed to report income from it. “Any person who has ever had anything to do with cannabis is banned for life from entering the legal market under this ordinance,” said Smith. Smith’s concern is the new law applies to tenants, or even her tortilla company, because the businesses raided in December were in the process of being licensed, Eilenberg said. They received approval letters to operate a week after they were shut down, but the law suggests they are ineligible to get licenses. “This misguided ordinance is a backdoor ban that continues the city’s illogical campaign against a legal product,” Smith said in a statement. “Any person who has ever had anything to do with cannabis is banned for life from entering the legal market under this ordinance. It is not what the voters want and it makes no sense.” Eilenberg said it could also apply to businesses that operated in the murky days when medical marijuana was loosely regulated. Cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco have given priority to licensed businesses that operated under medical marijuana regulations to get into the broader retail market that opened the first of this year. “San Bernardino is taking the opposite tack and guaranteeing that anyone in the city who operated prior to this law has to remain in the black market,” Eilenberg said. The ordinance would allow 17 commercial marijuana businesses in the city, but there are 19 different types of licenses that could be issued — everything from growing cannabis, to transporting it, testing it and selling it. The lawsuit stated the ordinance would violate the constitutional right to due process by disqualifying tenants or Smith without ever granting them an administrative or criminal hearing. The lawsuit also claimed the city law could create monopolies of certain types of marijuana operating licenses. Issue 44 I Page 46

DID YOU KNOW?

7 Habits of Highly Successful Stoners B. Le Grand

1. Know Your Dose .

Successful stoners don’t usually drink or use other “drugs” or recreational medicines other than a healthy holistic way of life. Don’t overdose and use Sativa when possible. Try micro or mini dosing and remember not every day is a party.

2. Watch What You Eat.

Don’t let the munchies get the best of you. Maybe it means being Paleo, Pescatarian or Vegan, maybe not - but whatever you do just be aware of what you put in your body and how it affects you. Don’t be afraid to eat, just remember that what you indulge on doesn’t need to be bad. Some foods are delicious and also improve brain function and energy levels.

3. Get Some Exercise or Have a Hobby.

In order to keep your peace of mind, you need to do more than just work and smoke weed. Paint, play an instrument, work out, do yoga, take up knitting - find something to balance and relax you.

4. Learn What You Don’t Know, Read.

You only know what you don’t know. Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavericks NBA team, and fan favorite investor on ABC’s Shark Tank, testifies to reading and recommends if you want to be successful to read at least 3 hours a day. He says he never stops reading, and even if you learned just one thing from the book, it was worth the cost. Any book that can add a skill to your toolset is an investment...an investment in knowledge, and knowledge is power.

5. Work Hard, Respect the Task at Hand.

This one might seem obvious, but some people would have you believe there’s a shortcut to everything in life. Make no mistake, there is no substitution to putting feet to pavement and grinding the work ethic. Once the hard work is out of the way, you can switch gears to working smarter rather than harder. Respecting what you do and those that work with you are also critical to success. Keep in mind respect is something that is earned not given.

6. Be Consistent, Stay Consistent.

Ever notice that your one true best friend is the most consistent and reliable person you know? They’re always there for you, they are predictable and never let you down. It’s that kind of consistency that creates trust in all relationships, especially business. We live in an ever changing, extremely fast-paced world where there are no shortages of distractions or personal priorities. These days it’s harder than ever to find consistency in our relationships, once you figure out how to be consistent, STAY CONSISTENT. What’s the point in gaining one’s trust if you’re not going to follow through? This key point is almost more important than all the others mentioned here.

7.Be Persistent! Never Give Up!

Being consistent and being persistent are two very different things. Persistence by definition means never giving up. It’s important to note never giving up on what you are passionate about. Successful stoners understand that there is an art to knowing when to give up, but pursuing a dream or taking the initiative to attain a goal requires working past the fight or flight instinct. You have to fight for what you believe in and what your goals are. If you have ever read about the law of attraction, the “when” is never critical or of absolute importance. The old adage, “Good things come to those who wait,” refers to those who are waiting to reap their rewards from the seeds they’ve sown -- not those who are sitting on their high asses waiting for a miracle to happen to them. Be the change you want to see! Issue No. 44 I Page 53

Q. HOW’D THE TERM COFFEESHOP END UP GETTING USED FOR CANNABIS?

54

A. It started in 1972, in Amsterdam, when the Mellow Yellow coffee shop and bakery decided to traffic cannabis making it the first dispensary. Drug dealers disguised as customers would sit at the bar and sell cannabis to the hip customers. At the time, the Netherlands had just decriminalized cannabis, and there

A. As a crop cannabis is 33 times more valuable per acre than tomatoes (tomatoes being the most valuable legal crop per acre for Big Ag). The high price of cannabis is solely the result of prohibition. However, once a state goes legal cannabis prices fall drastically. According to the Washington Post, cannabis prices have fallen over 67% three years after legalization in Washington with similar trends occuring in the other legal states. As more cannabis is transitioned from black market operations to legal farming the price of cannabis will continue to fall.

ASK DR. MIKE

A. There are currently 8 states where cannabis can be purchased without a medical note: California, Nevada, Massachusetts, and Maine, Alaska, DC, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. Q. DO PEOPLE REALLY USE CANNABIS ON THEIR PETS? A. Yes! Many of the same ailments treated with cannabis in humans can be treated with cannabis in dogs. This includes arthritis, epilepsy, chronic pain, anxiety, etc. CBD has been the most common cannabinoid used on animals because it has great therapeutic properties and is non-psychoactive. Most evidence is still anecdotal, however researchers like Dr. Stephanie McGrath at the University of Colorado have begun investigating CBD for treatment of arthritis and epilepsy in dogs under a medical setting. Q. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP AND CANNABIS? A. The biggest difference is the level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Technically, both plants come from the genus

Cannabis, and the species Cannabis Sativa. Hemp is more fibrous and contains less than 1% THC. U.S. laws define hemp as all parts of a Cannabis Sativa plant that does not contain psychoactive properties. Canada law states hemp is cannabis that contains .03% of THC or less. Q. CAN CANNABIS TREAT ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION (ED)? A. Yes and No. There is a lot of contradicting information out there regarding cannabis use and erections. Anxiety, or stage fright, is a common cause of ED. In small quantities, cannabis has shown to reduce anxiety, which can help some men relax and achieve an erection. Additionally, cannabis alters your senses which can make you more aroused. At higher doses cannabis can have a desensitizing effect, which means you can last longer in the sac. However, at high enough doses your johnson can become completely desensitized and go limp. Bottomline using cannabis for ED is completely case dependent. It really depends on the individual, the dosage, the partner, the setting... catch my drift. If you suffer from a limp noodle cannabis is worth a shot, and if that doesn’t work there’s always the little blue pill!

US NEWS

Dozens of CBD Raid Cases to be Dismissed by Indiana Police

B. Le Grand Indiana Governor, Eric Holcomb, recently signed Senate Bill 52 to legalize CBD oil. The new law officially goes into effect July 1st. It essentially ends the argument or ability to continue to crack down on stores that sell CBD oil.

As a result of the new law, dozens of grocery stores throughout Indiana will have their seized CBD products returned. The Indiana Tobacco and Alcohol Commission and its enforcement agency, the Indiana State Excise Police confirmed that they are dismissing dozens of cases involving CBD raids on stores across the state. Last summer, State Excise Police raided Fresh Thyme, a Greenwood, Indiana-based grocery store, for “possession of marijuana” even though hemp-derived CBD products produce no psychoactive effect, are defined separately from cannabis and are indeed legal. Thousands of dollars worth of CBD products were seized. “Indiana State Excise Police will be returning CBD products to respective retailers in a timely manner. Retailers that were cited last summer with regards to CBD oil will not be imposed to any fines,” Alcohol and Tobacco Commission spokeswoman Lindsay Devlin said. When confronted about the raids after the fact, Alcohol and Tobacco Commission chairman David Cook admitted he didn’t understand the legality of CBD. “It’s a complicated issue and we’re trying to work through it and figure out what the rules are,” Cook said. CBD retailers in Indiana will be subject to new strict labeling requirements after July 1st. The labeling requirements, ironically, will be enforced by the same State Excise Police team that raided the grocery stores to begin with. It’s another case law win for the cannabis hemp industry, as similar CBD raid charges have been dropped in Tennessee for Operation Candy Crush. Even though CBD raids may continue in tiny pockets throughout the United States, law enforcement is overall losing their futile war on CBD as a new precedent has been set. Issue 44 I Page 61
