LETTERS FROM THE TEAM

Aloha Edibles Readers, Ohana & Friends,

Our 49th Issue is our Health & Wellness issue, where I had the amazing, fortunate opportunity of interviewing the icon and legend Fran Drescher. It feels like a high point for us as we add another loud voice and platform to the cannabis industry with her Cancer Schmancer Movement non-profit organization. I’ll never forget watching her on TV as The Nanny, if I could go back in time and tell my child-self, “In 20 years you’re going to interview The Nanny about cannabis on the cover of your own magazine,” I don't think I'd believe it. If you would like to get a picture with Fran or have her autograph a copy of the

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 49

Greetings my friends,

10

I went to Tulsa, Oklahoma for The Green on Greenwood Expo, put on by The Oklahoma Cannabis Business Alliance. It was a very nice event and the very first of its kind in the state. I was born and raised in Tulsa so it was a lot of fun to return and take part in something so groundbreaking. It also gave me a chance to see some family and for them to see a bit of what I do. On my way back to LA, I paid a visit to the good folks at Pharm Aid Farms in Colorado. You can read a full write up about their super cool farm later in this issue. Fran Drescher was one of the very coolest and most knowledgeable

magazine, please purchase a VIP ticket to her October 23rd, 2018 Master Class Health Summit where you can learn how to detoxify your life and home (www. CancerSchmancer.org). If you’re not in Los Angeles or the west coast and are not able to make it, please donate to her cause. Cancer Schmancer not only helps educate people about health and alternative treatment options, they can assist with testing and early detection if you are lowincome or disadvantaged. We admire how open she is about anti-capitalism and how we’ve been lied to by corporations for so long. She says she’s turned her, “pain into purpose,” which is something I can directly relate to on many levels. We also want to take a moment to commend those who submitted their applications for licensing in their respective cities. If you are a company that is in fear of going out of business, please reach out to us, we want to hear your story and if we can, help.

Assembly Bill 2020 was just passed as we go to close out this issue, allowing the cities and venues to permit local cannabis consumption events as opposed to limiting these types of events to fairgrounds. Not to mention watching Elon Musk smoke a blunt on Joe Rogan’s podcast felt like a revolutionary moment in history. Last month, I had the pleasure of speaking about the Cannabis Business and Investing at KauaiCann, the first ever cannabis consumer event in Kauai. This month I'll be speaking at the UtahCann the first ever educational cannabis event in Utah, helping to dispel common misperceived stereotypes of stoners. Additionally, at the end of the month we will be conducting our second annual Edibles Magazine™ Panel at the LA Comic Con Please join us if you can! To many more firsts, memories and spreading the word, in this millenia and the next,

celebrities we’ve had the chance to talk to so having her on the cover of the Health issue is a real treat. Elon Musk went on The Joe Rogan Experience last month and it was a very entertaining episode. They sipped whiskey, talked about Teslas, tunnels, magnets and magnates, and later in the show they smoked a bit of a blunt together. Elon didn’t really hesitate to hit it, but didn’t quite look like he knew how to inhale. It seemed like the normal enough way to puff a cigar which makes a certain amount of sense and he also said marijuana didn’t affect him.

Our Hip Hop issue earlier in the Summer featured Ta Smallz on the cover, and he finally got his day in court facing his mother’s murderer. Sherill Smother was found guilty of First Degree Murder for killing Marsha Carter in the early 1980s. Justice finally caught up to him over 30 years later and he actually tried to flee rather than show up for sentencing. He was caught later in the day and is currently being detained by police at the hospital while he waits to go to prison. He’ll be receiving a sentence of 25 years to life at minimum. Justice wasn’t swift this time, but at least it finally came and Ta can finally put this chapter of his life to rest. Congratulations.

I’d like to see him do a dab and hold that hit in, then see how unaffected by THC he feels. That one little un-inhaled blunt puff caused quite a stir among the Tesla shareholders and drove the stock price down somewhat. So did some tweets and things but Joe Rogan had some weird things to say about it afterwards, taking credit for sinking stocks once he was chatting with other stoner comedians. Blunts meanwhile, are more popular than ever and we have all the info on the best hemp wraps and wood tips in our reviews section.

We begin to talk about how surgery should be the absolute last resort, she then goes on to the importance of clean medicine, and continues by emphasizing that cannabis should not be the last resort. Fran referenced that clean medicine was the pivotal point of

her talk at the recent Cannabis Science Conference in Portland, Oregon. “Stand at a precipice of a new dawn here with this industry can be very lucrative but also very effective, but where’s money there’s usually greed, and where there’s greed there’s compromise of physical practices, with concerns to the growing, manufacturing, you know. The need to raise awareness about the environment, the plant and the user,” Fran said. “That’s a big issue with me, because I’m very aware. I know a lot of people engaged in this industry, but as the Founder and President of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a big cornerstone of our mission is to educate people and share awareness to realizing that How you live = How you feel.” “And so, you know, the idea of this industry potentially being what dot.com was for the 90’s, may entice a lot of irresponsibility, from people that are just very short-sighted capitalists and not really thinking in terms of where we stand historically with this and the trajectory that we potentially can set in terms of responsible, sustainable, organic biodynamic farming that has the lowest impact on the environment, the plant and

It was a genuine pleasure to connect with Fran Drescher, and have the opportunity to be the first cannabis magazine to have her on our cover. You know her from her undeniably recognizable voice and her six seasons on The Nanny, a show she co-created with her exhusband, who eventually came out as gay, which inspired the show Happily Divorced. She’s written several books including Cancer Schmancer, and Here’s Whining. She’s appeared in numerous movies in the past few decades, some of our favorites she appeared in were Jack, Beautician and The Beast, Spinal Tap, UHF, The Hollywood Knights, Hotel Transylvania (Parts 1, 2, and 3) and Cadillac Man. Fran was so sweet and gracious, and quite frankly one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever interviewed. I grew up watching her show and movies and you can hear the excitement in my voice I tried to hold back in our podcast.

Fran created her non-profit organization the Cancer Schmancer Movement (CancerSchmancer.org), which she calls a “pretty radical non-profit in the health space.” Their goal is to help educate the consumer about the toxins we consume around us every day. Her mission in learning from her own experience with cancer, is to make cancer

removing functioning organs. Her encounter with Uterine cancer began Fran’s path to discovering alternative health and wellness treatments. “This was 18 years ago. They said a radical hysterectomy would essentially cure me, then two weeks after the surgery they said that I could do breakia therapy on the vaginal cuff to just make sure that no floater cells got stuck there when they sewed me up. I opted out of that, after doing research and realizing that kind of radiation is not without permanent side effects. I already was given a 95% chance of non-recurrence. I thought that was good enough for me. I’m not going to ruin what’s left of me, in perfect or imperfect working order,” she said.

thought I had restless leg syndrome, even though I correlated it with the complaint that Gilda Radner had. I complained that my stool was changing, they said I was eating too much spinach. I complained that my breasts were too hard, they said I had the ‘tits of an 18 year old.’” “So there I was, with perky breasts, they said take gin and tonic to go to bed for the restless leg, stop eating so much spinach. So I did all that in an attempt to cure myself. All the while, I had Uterine Cancer.” Cancer Schmancer has “Fran Vans” that help get access to low-income people to get early testing done for early detection. When Fran came out of surgery for her hysterectomy she was notified they has taken her appendix as well. They told her it was standard hospital protocol, to which she replied, “You could have told me you were going to take a functioning organ of mine.” The appendix regulates the lymphatic system. Fran attributes a constant flux of inflammation in her body because of the removal of her functioning organ. Her Master Class Health Summit brings world-renowned Doctors and Dentists together to further educate on moving away from harmful Western medicine practices, like root canals and

Prior to that encounter with cancer, Fran and her husband at the time, experienced a horrific home invasion, where she and her girl friend who was over for dinner, were violently raped in 1985. In other interviews, Fran had mentioned experiencing Post Traumatic Stress, as well as Post Traumatic Growth (where you throw yourself into work after a traumatic experience in order to cope but experience tremendous growth in a short period of time, without actually dealing with the heart of the problem). When asked if she used cannabis for PTSD from that event she said, “It depends, I did smoke pot then. The night that it happened I had already quit cigarette smoking and I recall sitting there, with a joint in one hand and a cigarette in the other.” “I think that how people react to it is very personal and individual. If it’s going to make you paranoid, it [cannabis] may not be for you. I had to also come to terms with the fact that I might have used to pot sometimes to numb myself from my feelings. I had to deal with that. I had to come to terms with that and start facing my feelings, instead of numbing myself from them.” “Once I started doing that and getting in touch with it [my feelings] in psychotherapy, it automatically reduced my pot usage, I

COVER STORY think in a very healthy way. I got into the habit of feeling my feelings, expressing my feelings, and pot became more of an occasional social indulgence. Back then its medicinal qualities and aspects and cannabinoid support wasn’t being widely discussed.” When asked what her most memorable moments from her Nanny days were, she said, “Definitely having my own parking spot with my name on it in the lot, made me feel like I ‘made it.’ Being on the cover of TV Guide. Having guests like Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Midler Dan Aykroyd, Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg, Ray Charles, and Rosie O’Donnell were just some of the unbelievable guests over the years.” “Those were all incredible experiences and having so much to say and do about it, writing and starring in it, sometimes directing and executive producing, it was a quite a momentous experience that continues to be the gift that keeps on giving.” If you hope to see a reboot or spin-off of The Nanny, Fran said, “I’m not opposed to it. But no one’s called about it, and I think that for us a reboot would really be the characters 20 years later, there would be some similarities, but it couldn’t be the same show. And that in it of itself might be problematic. I don’t know. I’m working on a lot of other projects right now and people always ask about it. But nobody’s called.” In 2008, Fran announced that she was considering running for the Senate to succeed Hillary Clinton. When asked if she would consider running again she said, “I think I had got a series or something, I don’t really remember, all I know is that I’m always being urged to run.” “I kind of have decided that it’s such a polarizing congress that I can wield more influence as a celebrity, because now we have social media and I worry that because my adrenals don’t work so well, I have to keep my stress levels as low as possible. I don’t think that’s possible to do that in congress. Also, there are other platforms I am passionate about and that’s all I really want to focus on.” “I don’t want to spend half my life trying to raise money to campaign, or speaking to rotary

clubs about their concerns, which are legitimate to them, but not really legitimate to me. When you’re an elected official you have to serve all the people, I appreciate that completely. But I think that at this stage in my life and the way that congress is going I can accomplish more outside of that system.” At Fran Drescher’s annual Cabaret Cruise, guests sail away for an exclusive, all-VIP experience with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dinner with Fran and a night of New York's finest cabaret talent. “Every June in New York Harbor, I speak, everyone who comes gets to take a picture with me and then we sail around New York harbor for an intimate gourmet dinner and have live musical performances straight off of Broadway, all aboard the Hornblower Infinity. It’s a Fundraiser for Cancer Schmancer.” Oct 23rd is Fran’s Master Class Health Summit in Los Angeles, featuring topics like Cutting-Edge Research, New Treatments, Eastern & Western Medicine, Functional Medicine, GMOs, Mental Health, Medical Cannabis, Detoxing Your Home, Whole Body Wellness, and the Mind-Body Connection. “It promises to be a mind blowing game changing day for all who attend at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. It’s an all day thing, and everyone has their pad and pen. People can’t wait to come back year after year.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The portside city is renowned for its beauty and diverse culture. “Vancouver is Manhattan with mountains. It’s a liquid city, a tomorrow city, equal parts India, China, England, France and the Pacific Northwest. It’s the cool North American sibling,” reports The New York Times. The city, which has earned the nickname “Vansterdam,” is known for its Dutch-like cafes and its expanding cannabis market. According to TripAdvisor, “Because of ‘safe space’ laws, people can go bring their own [cannabis] to various ‘safe space’

EVENT RECAP

Cannabis Science Conference Coming to Baltimore, Maryland B. Le Grand

“We were honored to have welcomed Fran Drescher to her first Canna event and are looking forward to her Master Class Health Summit event October 23rd, 2018 in Los Angeles.” Josh said. “Fran Drescher is the perfect advocate for this industry. She talked about how her dad uses it for Parkinson’s. She is timeless and hasn’t skipped a beat. And a lot of it is because of the way she lives her life.” Josh reiterated the importance of using one’s platform to educate, “Influencers are very important to this industry, it really feels great to introduce Fran Drescher to this community. It is people like Fran who give us credibility by going public to share their stories and personal relationship with the plant. That is powerful to have that kind of influence.” Fran also eloquently educated with her Cancer Schmancer Movement platform, which is, “How you live = How you feel.” What you put in on and around your body has an effect on you, which is why we should strive for natural and organic products as

consumers. She also emphasized this should translate to demanding pesticide-free medicine and organic cannabis. Other notable speakers included John Easterling, Plant Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ethan Russo, Scientist at GW Pharma, Dr. Bonnie Goldstein, Pediatrician specializing in cannabis, Tracy Ryan, Founder of CannaKids and mother of Sophie who has a rare brain tumor and uses cannabis for it. Ed Rosenthal, The Master Grower, also dropped in as a surprise guest and spoke about cultivation and clean medicine. John Easterling is Olivia Newton John’s husband, and she ended up being a surprise attendee.

“The event couldn’t have gone better.”

Next September 4-6, 2019 will be their fourth annual expo in Portland, Oregon, and have drawn such great interest that they are now doing an East Coast Cannabis Science Conference in Baltimore, Maryland April 9th-10th, 2019. Josh gave Edibles Magazine™ the exclusive first announcement, “Montel Williams will be there to speak which is another wonderful influencer for this industry.” The Baltimore sessions will include information about the new medical program at Johns Hopkins University that includes cannabis as well as speakers from the NIH (National Institute of Health) Maryland. Jim Belushi will be there to speak about his documentary called State of Oregon, which covers the Oregon cannabis industry and the process from how they went from medical to recreational, leaving medical patients suffering. The Cannabis Science Conference is one of the most respected industry conferences that exist. This past August 27-29th, over 3,000 people came out to learn about the Science of Cannabis. There were exhibitors, break-out sessions, abstracts, a pre-expo boot camp, and keynote speakers like Fran Drescher. It was a quality educational event where scientists, doctors and professionals in the medical industry came to further their cannabis knowledge. It was the first cannabis expo Fran Drescher chose to speak at, and when her camp reached out to me to ask about Josh Crossney, the organizer, I had only positive things to say about Josh and his mission to educate.

FARM FEATURE Patrick Ian Moore

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 49

I had the good fortune of staying a couple of days with Skylar Walker and Ivelis Acevedo of Pharm Aid Farms™ on their beautiful organic cannabis farm in Walsenburg, Colorado to find out what the secret is behind growing such delicious and potent organic flower outdoors. Pharm Aid has been producing incredible cannabis in Northern California for a while now and they have their eyes on Oklahoma next. After seeing the Colorado operation up close, I have no doubt they’ll continue to conquer with kindness wherever they go. The farm was isolated and peaceful and the plants were the best I’ve ever seen up close. Fragrant sticky buds growing in the sun with an average THC potency of 27%. I asked Skylar about the specifics of his set up and he was happy to share the details.

A Model for Organic, Sustainable, Clean, Large Scale Farming: Pharm Aide Pharms in CA. CO. & now OK.

Soil and Potting System

Watering System, Liquid Feeding & Irrigation

Skylar told me, "We tried for the first year to use native soil, but it wasn’t conducive to good growing habits because it used too much water and had some pests. So we went to a 100 gallon smart pot, which is a tan colored felt fabric pot. The tan color reflects a lot of the intensity of the sun, so it’s not a black pot absorbing all the heat. The particular soil we’re using is a Berger water holding blend. It’s a BM6, mainly a peat and *perlite blend, it holds a lot of water deep in the pot where the main root system of the plant is, and the top will evaporate lightly due to the dry environment in this climate. We use a water drip line so we’re able to soak the soil a lot more efficiently. The soil starts out inert and we charge it with Age Old ™ and Roots Organic ™ granular nutrients so the soil becomes charged (so to speak) for vegging as it flows into a phosphorus and blooming times (in July). Then we just keep liquid feeding all the way through. As we’re able to flush the plants over the last two weeks, which is the phase we’re in now, we’ll slowly pull out some of that green nitrogen color and yellow up the plants a little bit to have a sweeter end product to smoke." *Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass that has a relatively high water content, typically formed by the hydration of obsidian.

"The watering system we installed this season is really similar to any indoor grow or greenhouse grow with inline injection mixing. We use Mix Rite ™ as a company, we mix up our nutrients in a 50 gallon drum, and put a concentrate of liquid weather it be from Veg + Bloom ™, their base line of products or their Shine + Bloom Booster, or Age Old ™ has a line of liquid nutrients we’ll run at points. We’ll mix it up in the drum, then through a simple hose that goes back into the main plumbing system and to the garden itself, and there’s three different sections of one inch and a quarter spigots throughout a whole acre. Each section then comes off and goes into one inch polyline that breaks down for each row of twenty six plants, there’s a ¾ inch polyline with a valve that we’re able to irrigate weather it’s plain water, or like I was explaining with the fertilizer, and we’re able to irrigate the plants and feed them through liquid feed throughout the whole season and it cuts back a lot on the cost of employees being out here with a water wand hand watering. A quarter inch line that goes into the plant that has a drip line on it, and each one of these drippers puts out a half gallon an hour, and at the end of the season to flush we just open up the end and let a lot more water go through and flush any excess nitrogens out of the plant a lot more efficiently and a lot faster than

FARM FEATURE

Trellis Support System "Trellis netting was chosen to be used originally due to the bamboo not being cost efficient. we would have had to have put thousands of bamboos individually in front of these plants. We found that *trellis, same thing a lot of indoor guys and greenhouse growers use, stretched width wise and length ways throughout a stretch, we particularly use 6 plants that we make a run of so you can still access different alleys. It’s put down low, 30 inches off the ground and another 12 inches above that and we usually have a third layer through to catch all the tops as the plants become a lot heavier and bigger. In the high wind areas, the green screen actually blocks most of the wind but anything else, as the wind is blowing this plant and moving it around it can only fall and move within the square. So it helps hold the plant up, support more the canopy, and it’s a lot cheaper and we’re able to use steel wire just to pull it taut from side to side and pull it longways between two T-posts on each end and holds the plants up, trains them, and as they’re vegging we can pull them through and create more of a wider canopy so we get a benefit of being in the early stage of being able to train and we also have our product held up throughout the seasons out here. There is rain and hale so it helps hold and catch that in case there is a severe storm," Skylar explained.

*A trellis is an architectural structure, usually made from an open framework or lattice of interwoven or intersecting pieces, made to support and display climbing plants. Green Screen Wind Screens "The wind screens were developed through trial and error over the last four years that we’ve farming out here. We noticed that in the Spanish peak regions and Rocky Mountains the winds would blow with extreme force off the mountains and flow through the valley areas, but being out here in the high plains there’s really no trees or any vegetation to block that, so through some different trial and error of dif-

ferent fence methods we decided that the wind screen that could be taken on and off seasonally when it’s not in use and can be folded up and preserved and when it is in use being secured to this steel fencing, blocks the initial force of the blow while still allowing a lot of ventilation to flow through the plants and still have enough air circulation. They’re 70% block and still allow light to come through. It’s secured to a steel 14 gauge fence that goes down and wood columns to hold it through the wind. It protects the crop and provides greenhouse quality flower while still growing outdoors in a sustainable method without high electric costs and other high expenses that indoor grows and high tech greenhouses can incur.," Skylar said. Drying Racks "Drying racks were created at Pharm Aid Farms to maximize our space. We only have one barn for drying this year so we have to condense two acres of product into a 20 by 60 room traditional whole plant hanging wouldn’t have been an effective use of space, so we’re using machines to debug the product after harvest, we do hand deleafing and then all the flower is dried in these racks, which are screened and lumber construction, that are 8 feet wide, 32 inches long. Over a 5-7 day drying periods it’s in this room drying the whole room is full we come through and lightly toss and fluff an area of the product a little bit when it starts to break down as it’s drying, some of the cannabis can flatten, or become soft and flat as the weight of it pushes down, so it’s real important to come back everyday and toss that product and dry it on all it’s different sides. This season we’re using dehumidification if needed, but it’s a dry environment here in Colorado so we may not use much of it. Air circulation is good and eventually we’ll install our HVAC and other room temperature settings inside this area here. Each flat can hold roughly 16 to 18 pounds of drying flower. So all in all with the vertical system, currently we can do around seventeen hundred pounds at a time on the walls with these trays total in the room. We’re working on our prototype to figure out how to make carts on wheels sturdy enough to dry and similar to a scaffolding unit but still incorporates drying racks with lumber and screens you can pull out," he said. traditional hand watering or other water methods take. Out here in Colorado evaporation is key so we don’t use a full 360 degree mister, we do drip, so that way it’s always directly on the soil," he said.

Jamaica Legally Ships Cannabis Oil to Canada for the First Time Jack Paradise

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 49

The Jamaican company, Timeless Herbal Care (THC), has sent the very 1st shipment of medical cannabis from Jamaica to Canada for analytical testing. THC shipped cannabis oil extract to Synfine Research, an affiliate company of Toronto Research Chemicals in September. Courtney Betty, the Timeless Herbal Care Ceo told Marijuana Business Daily ™,

26

“This was the first test shipment to create a pathway from Jamaica to Canada… We think that, with the shortage of medical cannabis in Canada, Jamaica is going to be a great option… We’ve built our company on a model over the past five years in preparation for the Canadian opportunity.”

Cannabis was introduced into Jamaica throughout the 1850s and 1860s by indentured servants and slaves imported from India during the British rule over both India and Jamaica. Many of the terms used in Jamaican cannabis culture are based on Indian terms, including “ganja”. Cannabis was banned in Jamaica under the 1913 Ganja Law, supported by the white elites and the Council of Evangelical Churches in Jamaica. These harsh laws had even tighter restrictions during the time periods when the Jamaican authorities feared civil unrest in the lower classes. In February 2015, Jamaica's legislature voted to amend the nation's cannabis laws.

The Jamaican Cannabis Licensing Authority, which oversees the permitting process for the cultivation, processing, distribution, sale and transportation of medical cannabis, told Marijuana Business Daily ™ it had issued 22 licences as of the end of August. An additional 126 are at the “conditional approval” stage, according to the Authority. Synfine Research plans on combining its catalog of more than 800 cannabis compounds with all natural Jamaican cannabis strains to develop new medicinal products. The Government of Canada issued the import permit, and the Ministry of Health in Jamaica issued the Timeless Herbal Care was one export counterpart. of the first licensed producers in Jamaica. LAX Cannabis Rules: 28.5 grams (1 oz.) of Cannabis "Okay to Fly With" B. Le Grand The Los Angeles International Airport released their official policy on carrying cannabis while traveling through LAX January 1st, 2018. They say nothing has changed, just that someone finally noticed the website policy post. The official policy posted on their website says: "While federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana (inclusive of federal airspace,) California’s passage of proposition 64, effective January 1, 2018, allows for individuals 21 years of age or older to possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal consumption. In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Department will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. However, passengers should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel." Alicia Hernandez, a spokeswoman for the Airport Police told The LA Times in an interview, “We are California peace officers and we enforce California law, so if we come across individuals carrying substances that are legal under state law, there is nothing we will do.” I learned about this leniency in 2016, traveling through LAX to Oakland, with a ridiculous amount of medicinal edibles, flower and capsules. In the end the airport police are a division of the Los Angeles Police Department and required to enforce what is within their jurisdiction, the local city and state laws. I was let go after an hour of interrogation, which included the officers actually calling the 800 number to verify my doctor’s recommendation, followed by the officers tallying up about the total amount of milligrams in products I was carrying (less than 28,500 milligrams of THC). I was free to catch my flight, and with lack of anything to legitimately lecture me about, the officer told me to just keep my doctor’s recommendation in better condition, i.e. put it in a protective plastic sheet, because they didn’t like how old and torn up my note looked from being in my purse for nearly a year. The TSA states that its emphasis is protecting the public from terrorism and threats to the public safety. The agency noted that if a TSA officer discovers an item that may violate federal law during screenings, the officer will refer it to local police. It’s then up to that local law enforcement to decide what to do. In addition, the TSA notes: Marijuana remains an illegal substance under federal law. The passenger's originating and destination airports are not taken into account. Airport law enforcement will be notified if marijuana is discovered during screening of carry-on and checked baggage. Whether or not the passenger is allowed to travel with marijuana is up to local law enforcement's discretion.

28

Whatever you do, do not put lithium ion vape batteries or disposable vape pens in your checked luggage. They will confiscate them, as they are still not approved for travel underneath the plane. Issue 49 I Page 28

TOPICALS Topicals are cannabis-infused lotions, balms, and oils that are absorbed through the skin for localized relief of pain, soreness, and inflammation. Along with THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids, topical producers may also include essential oils for additional relief.

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 49

SUPPOSITORIES Suppositories exert systemic effects when they enter the rectal mucosa, spreading healing compounds quickly through nearby organs and into the bloodstream, and are an effective way of diminishing the psychoactive effects of THC.

4

EDIBLES Cannabis edibles are food items made with marijuana or infused with marijuana oils. The THC contained within an edible is metabolized by the liver, which converts it into 11-hydroxy-THC. This delivers a much healthier, smoke-free and more intense high.

TINCTURES Tincture of cannabis, sometimes known as green dragon, is an alcoholic extract of cannabis. Tincture is ordinarily consumed orally. Some preparations also extract some of the waterbased plant products such as chlorophyll, resulting in a dark green or brown liquid.

3

CAPSULES Coconut oil cannabis capsules offer a safe and effective oral delivery method that can be easily dosed and optimally metabolized, in an effective and efficient manner that’s free of unwanted calories, additives and unnecessary ingredients.

LOZENGES Cannabis lozenges have a sustained release sublingual delivery system that allows for more efficient absorption into the bloodstream and for rapid onset by bypassing the digestive tract. They also change the pH in the mouth to eliminate bacteria and are sugar-free with no calories.

1 TRANSDERMAL PATCHES Transdermal cannabis patches are a unique method of cannabis consumption. The medicine works by a simple patch being adhered to a venous area of the body, allowing the cannabinoids (like THC or CBD) to enter the bloodstream for an effective and long-lasting response.

Strawberry Fields Pre-rolls

CBD Lion - 500mg Tincture

Patrick Ian Moore

Richard Bell

While in Colorado recently, I had my first opportunity to visit a recreational dispensary in the state. I was touring the Pharm Aid Farm, and Skylar Walker took me to The Strawberry Fields shop. Strawberry Fields is the biggest chain of cannabis dispensaries in CO, I was told. We had a long drive from Pueblo to Walsenburg and I was going to be in the area for a couple of days so I picked up some Key Lime Pie pre-rolls. Being a full time California cannabis user, I hadn’t actually had much Colorado flower within the state of Colorado. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but they were having happy hour specials so I decided to go top shelf. I registered to win a ceramic dab rig before leaving and took a picture of a painting of Bruce Lee. Once we were back at the ranch and inside we fired up a KLP preroll and worked on a Star Wars jigsaw puzzle Skylar had laid out for a little while. The weed smelled and tasted good, and seemed to have a very nice terpene balance. We ended the night getting caught up on Better Call Saul and finishing the prerolls. They were tasty and burned smooth enough for house joints, especially at such a nice price - the top shelf were $8 and a full gram. When I’m back in Colorado I definitely will stop by Strawberry Fields again and get some more flower and prerolls, and I hope I win that dab rig. If you’re visiting CO and want to get some SBF products, check out strawberryfieldscannabis.com.

I used this tincture after smoking THC. I followed the instructions that suggested using one dropper-full of the CBD oil under my tongue. Ladies and gentlemen, the Entourage effect is real. At least for me, the combination of THC and CBD make a formidable weapon against pain, spasticity, and anxiety. I held The dropper full of CBD under my tongue for about a minute. That is long enough to allow for the CBD to enter your sublingual capillaries and deliver the health benefits directly to your bloodstream. CBD is actually an antidote to the psychoactive effects of THC. This is great for when I’m having a bad day. I tend to want to consume quite a bit of THC, but still have to continue to be productive. The CBD in this teacher allows me to stay focused on the tasks at hand, while alleviating distractions from my medical condition and the lethargy from being high on THC. The tincture comes in a bottle that will feel very familiar to those of you who use products like this. The bottle contains all of the instructions you need to use this product efficiently. I think the logo is absolutely phenomenal. It would be difficult to mistake CBD Lion from any other tincture bottle. This is definitely a high-quality product. I highly recommend it.

Piece Water Solution All Natural Bongwater Alternative/Additive Daisy Dahlia

Is traditional bongwater too much for you? Piece Water has developed a perfect solution. The Piece Water Solution is an All Natural Bongwater Alternative that has truly seemed necessary to the culture for a long time now. The grunge and grime that builds up in a bong can get so intense it never gets clean. I’ve has friends that threw their bongs away completely rather than try and clean them. Piece Water Solution's unique proprietary blend of safe and all - natural mineral, vegetable, and fruit extracts work together to prevent resin from forming on your bong. It’s 100% All Natural and Absolutely Non-Toxic.

Can You Spot The Pot?

Add Piece Water Solution to a clean bong and your bong will remain nice, clean and clear from dirty resin build up. Piece Water is a natural liquid filtration system. The ingredients in Piece Water work to create a natural trap of smoke particulate.

We used it in a silicone bong, a hand blown glass bong, and a repurposed ceramic vase bong. Piece Water was a welcomed change and made the smoke seem silky and easy to breathe. Room temperature was really really good, but chilled in the refrigerator or briefly in the freezer and it’s an all time game changer it will be hard to go back from, so you might want to prepare for a new long time habit. Have fun and smoke smooth. Order some Piece Water for yourself at piecewater.com. The Health Issue

As opposed to regular tap water, the Piece Water formula works by encouraging more numerous molecule-to-molecule interactions. This molecule-to-molecule bond makes the solution viscous which, in turn, entraps the smoke by-products and stops resin from forming. An all natural bong water alternative that not only stops resin from forming but also traps smoke particulate matter which makes for cleaner and much smoother, more effective hits. and eliminates the need to clean your bong with harsh chemicals. Just rinse your piece out with some plain tap water and your bong is completely clean.

Our favorite new reusable crutches are the Organitips ® Original Wood Rolling Tips. Perfect to use on joints, blunts, wraps, cannacigars, and any other rolling materials. We met these guys at The Big Show in Los Angeles and they were very cool. You can order the Original Organitips style filters in a 250 piece Jar for $110.00 with FREE shipping at organitips.com. They also come honey or grape flavored, but the ones we’ve been using to smoke were the original wood tips.

paper made from a tobacco leaf. I love them, you love them, Joe Rogan and Elon Musk love them, but technically they’re not exactly good for you. There’s still a bit of nicotine there in that paper, which is what’s so special about the Hemparillo wraps - they’re 100% nicotine free because they’re 100% hemp. Like the back of the Hemparillo Royal Blunts package says: “Hemp is a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products.”

Everytime I roll a blunt or joint, I always try and put a filter on it. Originally that was to conserve weed. Wooden Organitips do that, and also enhance airflow, heat dissipation, and flavor. The wood tip won’t last forever, but is probably good for around 7-10 uses. We used them with the Hemparillo Hemp Wraps by Royal Blunts, another product we picked up at the LA Big Show. Hemparillos are all natural hemp wraps designed as a healthier alternative to using a tobacco leaf cigar paper when rolling blunts. Despite the known dangers of tobacco, many cannabis aficionados most love putting top shelf flower inside a store bought, split and emptied cigar

We rolled these sweet wrappers around some freshly ground Original Jack Herer ™ flower in both the Russian Cream and the Berries flavor. Unlike the old fashioned tobacco free hemp wraps of yester-year, which kind of stank to be honest and wouldn’t ever really close or hold together, these new Hemp wraps close very well and stay held together until the end. Less coughing, and zero tar in a smooth and slow burning smoke with no runners. Try the hemp wraps paired with the wooden tip filters and your favorite flower. You’ll be really glad you did and might even want to make it your main thing. Check out www.royalblunts. com/hemparillos for all the available flavors.

DEA Reschedules GW Pharmaceuticals' Epidiolex CBD Drug to a Schedule 5

Edibles Magazine™ Issue 49

B. Le Grand

Exactly 90 days after the FDA gave new drug approval to GW Pharmaceuticals’ Epidiolex, the DEA waited to the very last minute of their deadline to make a ruling on rescheduling the epilepsy drug.

DEA will restrict the actual distribution and access of medicine to the public by only allowing largely backed pharmaceutical and food/ beverage industry titans to make it onto pharmacy shelves.

Thursday, September 27, 2018 is when the DEA officially made their announcement. It states, “this order places FDAapproved drugs that contain CBD derived from cannabis and no more than 0.1 percent tetrahydrocannabinols in Schedule V.”

“What this does not do is legalize or change the status of CBD oil products,” DEA spokesperson Rusty Payne told NBC affiliate WTHR. “As of right now, any other CBD product other than Epidiolex remains a Schedule I controlled substance, so it’s still illegal under federal law.”

A Schedule V drug, consists of the following criteria: low potential for abuse, with an accepted medical use, abuse of the drug may lead to limited physical or psychological dependence. Other drugs in this category are Lyrica, pseudoephedrine and codeine.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed that hemp compliant with the US Farm Bill of 2014 is not to be treated as a controlled substance, as the Farm Bill preempts the Controlled Substances Act.

Rather than rescheduling CBD in general, it says that only drugs or products that have passed the FDA’s rigorous, expensive and time-consuming approval process, will be allowed to be given Schedule V drug status. Currently, in America, Epidiolex is the only CBD derived product that bears that title. This move by the

Congress is working to enact the 2018 version of the Farm Bill, despite recent news this week that those efforts may be delayed until after the November midterm elections. Some law firms expect hemp to be fully protected by the 2018 Farm Bill, if and when that’s passed. “We anticipated that Epidiolex will be the first of many potential FDAapproved medicines based

These are welcome alternatives,” NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said in a statement following the rescheduling news. “But these products should not be regulated in such a manner that patients no longer have ready access to herbal cannabis — a product that humans have used safely and effectively as a medicine for thousands of years and is approved today by statute in 31 states.” GW Pharmaceuticals said in a statement that the company is working hard to make Epidiolex available mid-November. Just in time for the Holidays. Epidiolex is anticipated to cost $32,500 per year, which GW Pharma stated they felt was cost comparable.

HAUNTED STORY

Haunted Freemason’s Lodge at 420 Main Street

Patrick Ian Moore

We started rolling some joints after we all had found some seats in the dark there in the main hall and Travis told us that before the grower’s association began meeting there, some of the locals were not comfortable with the idea of the building being used. “This

lady in town named Barb, Barb told me that there’s only one building in town she won’t set foot in, and that’s the one.” Greg continued, “Barb said, ‘You gotta get that place cleansed. You need to get the evil out and I don’t mean with a priest. A priest aint’ good enough. You need a Shaman, like a real medicine man.’ And I know the tribal guys around here so I found the Shaman and he said he’d need a meal and some tobacco, cause’ that’s the price for him, and that he’d do the ceremony.” Let me add that this was all being told by the light of a smartphone while we passed the jay around and that space was genuinely scary as all get out.

“He cleansed the place for sure. We had to do every level, upstairs, the basement. It was creepy, it’s still weird being here. One of the spirits, it hit my friend hard enough to knock him right over. We all felt it.” Travis continued, "He cleansed the place for sure. We had to do every level, upstairs, the basement. It was creepy, it’s still weird being here. One of the spirits, it hit my friend hard enough to knock him right over. We all felt it. We hit his peace pipe for protection and

to finish the ceremony but you could definitely feel those spirits. It was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. And because we’d been touched, the Shaman told us there’d been three of these evil demons there total, and then because we’d been touched by some bad mojo we had to go to a sweat lodge and get purified of it. Now all through that ceremony in the sweat lodge I could feel buffalo fur rubbing on me the whole time because that’s my spirit animal. Everyone else was jealous because the buffalo is the best, and that’s what was protecting me here during the exorcism. Now we use this space for our meetings and it’s fine, because everyone knows the ghosts are gone” We toured the rest of the building, which seemed like it had been abandoned in a hurry, and found a sword, a gavel, scrolls, a chess set, Mason’s robes and uniforms, a piano, candles, an alter and more old stuff like that. It was so surrealistic and eerie. So glad I went. Masons, and ghosts, and cannabis - oh my. I love it when trips take these side tracks.

If you’re ever in Walsenburg, Colorado and have a chance to visit 420 Main Street, I highly recommend it. Now that the demons have all been chased away of course. Happy Halloween! The CCGA website is ccgassociation. wixsite.com.

While in Walsenburg, Colorado, I was told by Skylar Walker from Pharm Aid Farms that the Colorado Cannabis Growers Association had started renting a building with the address, 420 Main Street. Even better, it was an old Freemasons lodge, and on top of that it was supposedly haunted. Sky also said, “There’s no power there right now, so it’s totally dark.” We were heading into town anyway so I asked if there was any chance we could drop by and see it? A haunted Masonic lodge with no power at night and with the address of 420 seemed too weird and cool an opportunity to pass up. We went to a local recreational dispensary called The Meduso Company where we watched a few minutes of The Emmys and loaded up on smoking supplies. We met Travis of the CCGA sitting in a rolling office chair on the sidewalk outside of the building. The historic Walsenburg courthouse was just across the street from the Freemason’s Lodge (built in 1910), and we made our way inside using our phones as flashlights.

Kauai, also known as the Garden Isle, was popularized by Elvis Presley’s love for the island, and his multiple films shot there. But Kauai was famous before Elvis ever arrived. At five million years old, Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian islands, and the last island to join the Kingdom of Hawaii. It is home to the 3,000 feet deep Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon, and over half of the island is inaccessible by road, touting the world’s most dangerous hiking trail. It’s where Captain James Cook landed in 1778, and named the archipelago the Sandwich Islands, after the fourth Earl of Sandwich. It’s also where Capt. Cook met his violent end. Kauai’s ruler in the 1700s was Kaumuali’i who resisted King Kamehameha I’s attempts to conquer the island for years on end. Surviving two attempted wars, Kaumuali’i decided to join the kingdom without bloodshed, and became Kamehameha I's vassal in 1810. Kamehameha I ceded Kauai to the Kingdom of Hawaii upon Kaumuali’i’s death in 1824.In 1893, the United States took over control the Hawaiian Islands. You may be thinking by now, Is this a history lesson or a conference recap? As someone who was born in Hawaii and brought up with Hawaiian customs and culture, I felt it’s imperative to understand why this was an event of historic significance. Hawaii, and within the islands itself especially Kauai, has experienced the hostile attempted takeover by outsiders for centuries. If you’re of Polynesian descent, the Aina (the land) holds a special place in your heart whether you were born there or not. Not only was KauaiCann put on by locals and native Hawaiians, it was the first business-to-consumer cannabis event on the island of Kauai. It was a one-day event with an amazing turnout that offered education, patient testimonies, and a CBD / ancillary marketplace where you could buy and learn about CBD and cannabis related items. There were CBD products that ranged from baked goods, to gummies, vapes, topicals, tinctures and more. There were local vendors and large name brand sponsors from the mainland. The organizers were restricted with cannabis advertising laws, and could not pay for any advertising, thus the promotion was all accomplished through social media and word of mouth (not to mention the banners they had on the highways). Pre-sale tickets were $10 and it was hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn, (which it was made abundantly clear that the Hilton was taking a big risk by allowing KauaiCann to take place there). No smoking or vaping was allowed on the property, however there was a county-approved “smoking tent” off hotel property but less than 1,000 feet away that attendees were able to enjoy, (with their respective state medical recommendations). The cops were indeed called, likely a complaint from a tourist witnessing the cannabis smoking off property. When the five police vehicles showed up, it was confirmed they had county approval since it was county land, and the cops left. Issue 49 I Page 54

Ask DR. MIKE

Q: WHAT IS AN ALLERGY? A: An allergy is an immune response from your body to a foreign substance. Your immune system creates antibodies to fight foreign invaders such as viruses. However, sometimes these antibodies will randomly stick to something oddly specific like pollen or cat dander. When this happens your body has an allergic reaction. Q: WHAT ARE SYMPTOMS OF CANNABIS ALLERGIES? A: There a ton of different symptoms for cannabis allergies. They can include nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, red eyes/pink eye, itchy nose, itchy eyes, itchy ears, hives, rashes, hay fever, asthma, swelling, difficulty breathing, difficulty talking. Q: WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF CANNABIS ALLERGIES? A: Pollen. Just like spring allergies when all of the plants are pollinating, you can have an allergic reaction to cannabis pollen. Especially if you are near an area where large amounts of cannabis is being grown or processed. Q: WHY ARE CANNABIS ALLERGIES BECOMING MORE COMMON? A: More people are becoming exposed to cannabis. As more states legalize cannabis both medically and recreationally the more new consumers are going to try cannabis. Unfortunately some of them will find out they are allergic to it. There is also a lot more cannabis being grown. This means there is more dust, pollen and other allergens being put into the air. People working in the cannabis industry, where

large quantities of plant material is being processed, are at the highest risk for developing cannabis allergies. Q: IS MOLDY CANNABIS GIVING ME ALLERGIES? A: First you should never smoke cannabis that has visible mold on it or smells rotten or acrid. Mold and fungus will not give you an allergic reaction...worse they will make you sick. Mold spores can survive harsh conditions such as being burned. So when you smoke moldy weed, the spores are making their way into your lungs where they can cause respiratory infections. In some cases you can catch pneumonia. Q: WHAT ARE SOME POTENTIAL HEALTH CONSEQUENCES FROM SMOKING MOLDY CANNABIS? A: Smoking moldy cannabis can give you a respiratory infection or pneumonia. Symptoms of smoking moldy cannabis can be headache, fatigue, weakness, light sensitivity, cough, chest pain, dizziness, mood swings and fever. Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I SMOKE CANNABIS WITH PESTICIDES? A: We still don’t know the full health implications of consuming pesticide laced cannabis. We know that certain pesticides are very bad when you smoke them. Myclobutanil for instance has been known to give people headache, rash, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nose bleed and eye irritation. Additionally, when burned myclobutanil is converted into hydrogen cyanide which is what secret agents take to commit suicide before they are captured. Q: SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT PESTICIDES IN MY CANNABIS? A: If you are buying from the black market then yes! However, if you live in a legal state that requires screening for pesticide contamination you are probably fine. Many of the states have set the limits for pesticides in cannabis several times lower than the produce you’d buy from the grocery store.

HIGH MOVIE REVIEW (cont'd)

Crazy Rich Asians Continued from PG 55

relate to these scenarios directly, as my mother was an immigrant that came to America to escape a life of martial law and communism where she was from. My grandmother had stories of having to swim through dead bodies in a sea stained red by blood, to get to the boat, filled with more dead bodies, as a 5 year old with her family escaping to Taiwan from the Chinese war. My grandparents immigrated after their children did, so I was lucky enough to have the memories of making dumplings as a family together. My Chinese grandparents didn’t speak any English so I had to learn broken Chinese to communicate with them, and everytime I would speak Chinese they would tell me how American my accent sounded. But even in my own Chinese family, I am half-white, and even being Americanborn like my cousins, I’m still looked at as different. Not only does Crazy Rich Asians accurately tackle Chinese culture, and the guilt and judgment that takes place within their own families, it shatters any stereotype or mold that Hughiearen’t Stonefish Asians marketable in a Romantic Comedy. I actually can’t remember the last time I paid to see a rom-com in the theaters. I usually try to spare my boyfriend and we’ll stream on Amazon or Netflix some rom-com that had been released earlier this year, and we’ll save the movies like superhero films for the big screen. There was something very special about this film, and it was beyond a great cast, good acting, it really had a great storyline that expanded beyond just a boy meets girl, and happy ending. They say the best movies are based on books, and this one comes in a 3 part series. We hope that they will get greenlight for the next two studio releases, and we hope this sets a new precedent on casting with representation. They also say there are no bad actors, just bad casting. Henry Golding plays handsome and charming, so believably well in his first movie role. Constance Wu plays a perfect “banana,” a term used in the film to reference her as “yellow on the outside and white on the inside.” Awkwafina plays the comic relief so well, I feel like everyone has a friend like her in their group they can relate to. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but its funny, it’s moving, it’s believable and takes place in a modern day setting that feels real to the viewer. It is just one culture tackled, and hopefully so many more to come. It feels like a special time in history for films like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians to be made. In Crazy Rich Asians, you could replace Asians with black, Greeks, latino, white, etc. and it would still be relatable because the story is about identity, knowing who you are, tradition, approval from your family and following your heart. I read and heard other press interviews about the movie before I saw it, and the best way it’s been put but John Chu the director himself, by the end of the movie you don’t even notice you’re watching a film about Asians, you’re watching a great story. That’s why you should see it, it’s a great film, it’s making history, and you get to see the 1% of the 1% of the opulence in Asia. Issue 49 I Page 58

ULTRASONICS for Cannabis

The 2018 Election: Why It’s Important for Cannabis Jonathan Landis, Esq. Attorney with Bird Law Group in Costa Mesa, CA Note: This article is intended to be non-partisan and does not endorse or oppose any specific candidates or positions. It is intended to inform readers of the issues at stake in the upcoming election and to encourage anyone concerned with cannabis access and legalization to vote, get involved, and make sure the voices of cannabis advocates are heard in this election.

Election Day is rapidly approaching on November 6, 2018. Traditionally, turnout is significantly lower in nonpresidential elections. For example, only 36.4% of eligible voters voted in 2014, the last non-presidential national election cycle. While the Presidency is not on the ballot this year, many other important offices and ballot initiatives are. This election will decide among other things, the majority parties in the House and Senate, governorships and control of state legislatures in many states, statewide proposition ballots related to cannabis and CBD legality and access, and innumerable important local races that may directly affect whether a local community prohibits or allows cannabis businesses to operate legally in their jurisdiction. This article will outline briefly some of the most important issues 1:16 PM at stake in the upcoming elections and provide a summary of key statewide ballot measures. It is not intended as a voter guide, but rather as a general summary and reference and to encourage all readers of this magazine and anyone concerned with cannabis legality and safe access to vote, donate, volunteer, and make sure their voices are heard in this important election. NATIONWIDE LANDSCAPE: Cannabis remains federally prohibited under Schedule 1, despite being legal for adult-use currently in nine states plus Washington DC, legal for medical use in thirty-one states, and having some limited legality for CBD or lowTHC cannabis in 15 other states. This federal prohibition has important consequences even in states such as California and Colorado where cannabis is legal. These challenges include difficulties in obtaining safe and regulated banking, inability to transport cannabis and cannabis products across state lines, and local and state restrictions and limits on cannabis and CBD access due to concerns about the federal legality status. There are numerous bills, many with at least some bipartisan support, in both the House and Senate that would move forward with changing this status. Some of these bills would fully remove the federal prohibition and legalize cannabis nationally. Most are more limited in scope and would range from leaving cannabis legality up to the states, decriminalization, or more restrictive allowances for CBD legality, research, and medicinal cannabis access for veterans. The results of the upcoming election will directly impact whether any of these bills will make it out of Senate or House committees and successfully pass through both houses of Congress. Issue 49 I Page 60

US NEWS

State by State Local Elections Update STATE AND LOCAL ELECTIONS: While ending the federal prohibition remains an important goal, in many ways state and local government regulations have more direct impact on the ability of cannabis businesses to operate and for safe access to legal cannabis and CBD for individual patients and users. It is extremely important to be informed and vote on statewide and downballot local races as well as nationwide elections. For example, in California, while cannabis is legal on the state level, currently city and county governments have final approval on whether cannabis businesses will be allowed in that municipal jurisdiction. It is very helpful to know your local officials’ positions on cannabis and to work to educate candidates and officials on these issues. Many candidates and officeholders are open to meeting with voters and constituents to discuss cannabis policy and often benefit from learning more about cannabis, especially with regards to its medical benefits, its positive impact on groups such as veterans and the elderly, and correcting stereotypes and misconceptions. It is important that those in the industry, as well as citizens concerned with cannabis rights, vote for and support through donations and volunteering pro-cannabis local and statewide candidates for office. STATEWIDE AND LOCAL BALLOT MEASURES: Lastly, ballot measures and voter referendums have been important tools for moving forward with state and local legality for cannabis. This is a brief summary of some important statewide ballot measures this year. In states where cannabis is legal, be sure to look for any local initiatives related to cannabis in your communities. COLORADO – Amendment X: Would change definition of Industrial Hemp to that used by federal government. Designed to allow industrial hemp industry to adapt to changes in federal policy. MICHIGAN – Proposal 1: Would legalize Adult-Use “Recreational” Cannabis for persons 21 and over. MISSOURI – Amendments 2 and 3 and Proposition 3: all would legalize medical cannabis. These different measures would allow for variant tax rates (2, 15, and 4 percent respectively). NORTH DAKOTA – Measure 3: Would legalize Adult-Use cannabis for persons 21 and over and allow automatic expungement process for cannabis-related prior convictions. OKLAHOMA – Question 788: Would legalize medical cultivation, use, and possession of cannabis. UTAH – Proposition 2: Would legalize medical cultivation and use of cannabis for certain conditions. CONCLUSION: The voices and votes of citizens who support cannabis legalization and access is essential to achieving further progress on the federal, state, and local levels towards safe and legal access to medicinal and adult-use cannabis and CBD. Hopefully, cannabis advocates, industry professionals, and members of our community will make sure they vote and continue to be active, engaged citizens in the electoral process.
