LETTER FROM THE EDITOR thought that would happen.
Greetings my friends,
10
It’s exciting to be championing on to a new year and we couldn’t keep doing it without you all. Thanks for everything, enjoy the holidays and we’ll see you in 2019. As always, smile at your budtender, tip your delivery driver, and know your dose. “Truth is not obliged to stick to possibilities.”
On Veteran’s Day I was Inducted into The Hollywood American Legion Post 43. It was a very cool ceremony and I was really honored to be part of it. I’m excited about the possibility of working Patrick Ian Moore with The American Legion to do Editor-in-Chief

The High Holidaze are upon us and 2018 has come to an end. It’s been a strange, exciting and frustrating time of change and growth in the regulated cannabis industry. Business in California feels like it’s taken a bit of a momentary step backward as it adjusts to the new laws, licenses and challenges that come with mainstream compliancy. In other parts of the world, like Malaysia, the death sentence is being abolished thanks to a cannabis crime related case. South Korea just legalized medical cannabis and in the US, states like Oklahoma and Missouri have also legalized medical cannabis and some people living there never
Last month in Las Vegas we threw an epic MJ BIZ Con after party at the Palms Place with Emerald Magazine, and Supreme Organics, Space Food Sticks, JuJu Royal, The Original Jack Herer, Source CBD, CWCB Expo and PieceMaker all helped us to do it. There was a hot tub on the balcony, an open bar, a blunt rolling station with organic Jack Herer flower, edibles, Hawaiian Barbecue, a chocolate fountain, OG prerolls, and celebrities like John Salley, Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi from Bravo’s “Shahs of Sunset”and “Teen Mom’s” Farrah Abraham. Ta Smallz performed “The 420 Roll Up” and DJ Legend and DJ Fraggle Rock were there keeping the music going all night long.

Diamond CBD always makes a strong impression at every cannabis event they attend. They consistently have one of the very biggest, most colorful and eye catching displays you’ll see at any convention and we see them at almost every expo we go to. The line of products they manufacture is diverse and vast ranging from gummies, to pet treats, and everything in between including oil. CBD is the second most popular cannabinoid but it’s starting to close the gap between itself and THC for a lot of reasons. CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the two most popular cannabinoids affecting the endocannabinoid system when people consume cannabis. THC gets you high, CBD doesn’t because it’s non-psychoactive making it also safe for pets. It also means it’s mostly legal most places (more
about that later). Some CBD comes from specific strains of full flower cannabis and will often still have varying small amounts of THC present. CBD isolate manufactured from industrial hemp has 0% THC and that’s what’s being use to power Diamond’s products. This season, Diamond CBD has created the perfect Holiday gifts with a new line of CBD oils. These oils make great gifts that can also help start the New Year off right. Fullspectrum CBD oils infused with MCT, Olive Oil, Hemp Oil, and the tasty new Honey Oil. Friends and family will all appreciate this new line of CBD oils to help them ease into their day while gaining all of the wonderful natural benefits that CBD has to offer. available in strengths ranging from 25mg to 3500mg. CBD oil can be found in many forms and your CBD oil dosing can alter depending on the quality, strength, and form of CBD oil that you are using. Calculating the specific amount of CBD in each bottle, dropper, or drop of CBD oil is simple, however, it still requires some calculations to be made. Every 30ml bottle of CBD oil contains 30 full droppers or 600 droplets of CBD. To find out how much CBD is available in each full dropper or droplet is rather easy. For example, if you have a 1000mg bottle of CBD oil, that means that there are 1000mg of CBD in the entire bottle. Divide 1000 by 30 to find out how many milligrams of CBD that you’re getting in each full dropper. In this case, it’s about 33mg. To find out how many milligrams of CBD are in each drop of oil, divide the total amount of CBD in the bottle by 600. So a 1000mg bottle will have 600 1.7mg drops or droplets. High-quality CBD oil begins with the quality of the organic industrial hemp. While some may argue about where the best hemp comes from, the truth is that high-quality hemp is grown all around the globe. The key to great, high-quality hemp for CBD oil, however, exists within the soil in which it’s grown. Hemp is very sensitive to its soil conditions and makeup, so the soil quality can directly impact the quality of the CBD oil. It is important for companies to be transparent with their sourcing and

EVENT RECAP TEXT HERE
PolitiCon LA Event Recap Siouxsie Q
The convention floor was lined with booths full of eager faces ready to tell every approaching attendee their elevator pitch for the politician, book, march, or platform they were representing. MSNBC had staked out a corner and set up an actual printing press where they were making cute little canvas tote bags that said “I Studied for the Midterms.” Character actors dressed as founding fathers such as Abraham Lincoln and Ben Franklin roamed the floor striking up conversations about the Gettysburg address and bifocals—I felt like I hadn’t seen people this engaged with politics since the election of Student Body President and Rally Commissioner during my senior year of high school. Comedian Kathy Griffin, who received much backlash after posting a staged photo of her holding Donald Trump’s decapitated head
spoke plainly alongside Stormy Daniels’ Attorney, Michael Avanetti, to a crowd of hundreds about how dire the situation in this country truly is when it comes to stifling speech and the corruption of the Trump administration. “I’m just a comedian,” Griffin said, “and they’ve made my life hell.” Avanetti, who is known for his no-nonsense approach and vehement pursuit of Donald Trump, confirmed that he would run for president if there was no viable candidate that could beat Trump in the 2020 election. The crowd boo-ed and cheered equally, and the room was tense. The following day news came that the Trump administration may be pursuing policies that would, as the New York Times put it, “define transgendered people out of existence.” Eddie Izzard a British gender fluid comedian who identifies as trans, spoke to a diverse audience about his views on sex, gender, religion, and politics, and spoke of his intention to run for a Parliamentary seat in the coming years. While the strict no heckling policy protected any interruptions for the first hour of the Izzard’s talk, the question and answer period quickly became volatile, as certain attendees truly did not support the fight for LGBTQ human rights, and had no problem letting the convention, and Mr. Izzard know it. I asked a question about sex worker rights near the end (Izzard responded with grace and positivity) and I was nearly spit on by a woman who saw me after the talk had wrapped. It was not uncommon to see grandstanding and harsh words thrown around during panels, as EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com
this convention brought moderates, conservatives, and liberals from all walks of life. Every topic discussed was controversial, and no one could be sure who’s side anyone was on, but in essence we were all there with the intention of forming a more perfect union. While there was certainly a bit of an irreverent rock and roll vibe to the whole event, there was a distinct lack of sex and drugs—two hot topics in the recent legislative cycle, so I was surprised not to see some sort of programming that spoke to these parts of the political conversation. Ten states now have legalized the recreational use of cannabis and 33 have given the okay to medical. Additionally, this year the United States saw sex work decriminalization proposed from sea to shining sea, and the sex worker rights movement has been kicking ass and taking names since the deceptively titled SESTA (the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act) passed in April. SESTA has since had devastating consequences for the communities most at risk of being trafficked, and the problem the bill was intended to address has only gotten worse. I was able to find one single booth that featured cannabis related content, but it was more of a lifestyle platform rather than a political action committee or an organization. Hopefully next year Politicon will allow a few more of us deviants at the table. I survived the weekend without getting into a scuffle with any conservative prohibitionists, but boy did my feet hurt by Sunday evening. Thank goodness for topicals and cannabis bath bombs—and democracy, I suppose.

I should have dosed myself properly for day of walking around the Los Angeles Convention center in patent leather Calvin Klein pumps, as rolling a joint on the patio during lunch break just did not seem like the proper thing to at Politicon, the fourth annual west coast convergence of politics and media. Still, I wasn’t going to let a little high heel pain get in the way of me soaking up as much as possible over the two day event. Often referred to as the ComicCon of politics, this convention is a nerdy and joyful gathering of voters, candidates, political pundits, celebrities, comedians, podcasters, and so much more. From Ann Coulter to Dennis Rodman, this was a lively meeting of the minds from all sides of the isle.

WORLD NEWS
South Korea Legalizes
Medical Cannabis
Becoming the First Country in East Asia to Legalize Cannabis Al Wong
Edibles Magazine™ Issue 51
It’s official - South Korea just became the first country in East Asia to legalize medical cannabis. There are many restrictions but it’s still a giant step forward, especially considering North Korea is right next door with what still seems to be one of the most oppressive systems of government in the whole world. South Korea is also the second country in Asia after Sri Lanka to legalize medical cannabis, which still remains prohibited in all other Asian countries for both medicinal or recreational use.
24
South Korea's National Assembly voted on amendments to the Act on the Management of Narcotic Drugs that would allow non-hallucinogenic dosagesofmedicalcannabis.Patients will be required to apply to the Korea Orphan Drug Center, an organization that allows access to rare medicines. An orphan drug is a pharmaceutical agent that has been developed specifically to treat a rare medical condition, the condition itself being referred to as an orphan disease. The Korea Orphan Drug Center (KODC) is a non-profit organization established in accordance with Pharmacy Act 91 of the Republic of Korea. These approvals are provided on a caseby-case basis and necessitate a prescription. The recent vote follows a decision in July by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, which
IT WAS OFFICIALLY DECIDED THAT SOME “TREATMENT EFFECTS OF USING MEDICAL MARIJUANA HAVE BEEN PROVEN.” decided to allow cannabis based drugs Epidiolex, Cesamet, Sativex and Marinol for epilepsy, symptoms of HIV and/or AIDS as well cancerrelated treatments. Korea Orphan Drug Center was founded in 1999. The company's line of business includes providing noncommercial research. The South Korean National Assembly approved using cannabis for medical purposes through using a new amendment to the national Management of Narcotic Drugs Act (MNDA), as it was officially decided that some “treatment effects of using medical marijuana have been proven.” Non-hallucinogenic

doses of medical cannabis were approved for use under the new legislation, providing a legal basis for issuing licenses for manufacturing, distribution, and the retail sale or purchase of cannabis for medical purposes, according to the new description of the updated MNDA on the official website of the South Korean National Assembly. According to Bloomberg News, in September, Malaysia reportedly was seeking to become the first country in Asia to legalize medical cannabis. “Negotiations, however, have so far led nowhere, as Malaysia's Ministry of Health has been sceptical about the medical value of cannabis.” In the past, Malaysian anti drug legislation has stipulated capital punishment for drug related offences, as does legislation in most Asian countries. As we reported last month, capital punishment in Malaysia was just abolished due to a case for cannabis related crimes. South Korea has legalized medical cannabis. Malaysia has abolished the death penalty due to cannabis related crimes. There’s still a death sentence for marijuana in some Asian countries, but things are changing and the tide is turning. Medical cannabis culture began in ancient China so it makes sense that it’s finally being embraced in East Asia, even if so far it’s only by a little.

Narcos Mexico: It Started with Sinsemilla
“I'm going to tell you a story, but I'll be honest. It doesn't have a happy ending.” Jack Paradise - Narrator
Edibles Magazine™ Issue 51
[Spoiler Alert]! The newest and fourth season of Netflix’s original crime drama “Narcos” is actually a prequel to the 1st three seasons, set in the early 1980s and the action has shifted to Mexico. They also brought in some pretty well known talent for the primary antagonist vs protagonist. Diego Luna (the guy from Rogue One) is the bad guy Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, and Michael Pena (the guy from Ant-Man) is Kiki Camarena, the good guy. Kiki’s fate in real life is mentioned in detail in the third episode of Season one. He was abducted, tortured, and murdered by the Mexican drug cartel and the local corrupt police helped them do it. In the late 1980s through the early 90s DARE program, they used to guilt trip us by saying that if we smoked weed we were partially to blame for the death of Kiki Camarena.
26
Gallardo’s main man in the story is Rafael Caro-Quintero, known as “Rafa” and played by Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who proves his worth to the drug trafficking organization by pioneering a new form of seedless cannabis called “sinsemilla.” He didn’t actually come up with sinsemilla first, but he did take the new version of cannabis to a much higher level, so Rafa played a key role in the rise of sinsemilla within the Guadalajara Cartel, giving that drug trafficking organization an early and important boost. He’s basically the Manny Ribera to Luna’s Gallardo’s “Scarface”, which is semi ironic because the Cartel gangsters all start dressing more like Tony Montoya after watching the 1983 film. Steven Bauer, who played
Manny in Scarface went on to play Kiki Camarena in the 1990 NBC mini series “Drug Wars: The Camarena Story”, where Rafa was played by a young Benicio Del Toro. Bauer and Del Toro would work together again covering similar material but switching sides of the law in Steven Soderbergh's 2000 film "Traffic". Del Toro played Pablo Escobar in “Escobar: Paradise Lost” in 2014 and Bauer started playing Don Eladio Vuente in the “Breaking Bad/ Better Call Saul” television universe in 2011. Traffic was also a TV series in 2003, and featured Maori actor Cliff Curtis, who played Pablo Escobar in the 2001 movie “Blow” with Johnny Depp. So it seems like a lot of these same actors have been covering this material since 1983. Johnny Depp was undercover on 21 Jump Street busting kids for coke and weed less than 2 years after Camarena’s death, which happened less than a year after Miami Vice first aired on NBC. The relationship between drug cartels and the entertainment industry has been a symbiotic relationship since the beginning, sometimes going tragically wrong. Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location manager who was working for the Netflix series Narcos was killed while searching for places to film in Mexico for the fourth/current season. Rafa is still alive and currently on the run and in hiding with a twenty million dollar bounty being offered by the US Government for his capture after he was temporarily freed on a technicality in 2013 when he had served 28 years on a 40 year sentence for his involvement in the murder of Camarena. It was Rafa’s super seedless pot plantation that Kiki was responsible for destroying and ultimately it cost him his life despite

the fact that by the time they found it the Cartel and the government had shifted their energy and attention to the cocaine business. A show like Narcos can remind you pretty quickly how far fetched and unrealistic Breaking Bad sometimes gets, even though the amount of violence and death is pretty equal. It’s all in the details. It’s strange now to look back at the life and death stakes the American government was willing to devote towards fighting the drug war even when the drug war was mostly weed. Coke and crack came fast on the back of 1980s cannabis consumption as far as what was being busted, trafficked, and detailed in the media. It used to be normal for the Army in Mexico to kill people while they were burning their fields. Unfortunately, in some places all around the world people are still dying, killing, being tortured and serving life sentences for cannabis. Currently in Indonesia, the deadly police brutality combined with some of the world’s harshest cannabis laws paints a rather familiar and disturbing picture. When you’re privileged enough to be used to buying edibles, pre-rolls and shatter legally at dispensaries run by friendly people, it all seems pretty barbaric and ancient but it still happens and that’s a true tragedy. In the 5th episode of Narcos: Mexico, Wagner Moura returns as Pablo Escobar and says something prophetic, “Marijuana is a soft product. It doesn't hurt anyone. For now, it's illegal, but in the long run, it will be legalized.” He was totally right about that. Let’s all just hope it continues moving forward and stories like that of Kiki Camarena never happen again.

UK 2 Year Old Gets First Prescription for Medical Cannabis Paul Pot
In the United Kingdom a two-year old girl has become the first to receive medical cannabis by prescription for her rare form of epilepsy. Jorga Emerson suffers almost 30 seizures a day according to her father, Robin Emerson, a 33-year old entrepreneur from a small town in Northern Ireland. His daughter has such a rare form of epilepsy that is caused by a chromosome deletion that she is the only child with the condition in Northern Ireland and Ireland. Since this medical treatment can only prescribed by a specialist and not a GP (General Practitioner), decisions come on a case-by-case basis. Emerson said this made getting approval for his daughter's prescription very difficult. "I was feeling this day would never come", he was quoted as saying by itv.com news. "When medical cannabis was legalized by the Home Secretary our hopes were raised. But we were subsequently left devastated when the NHS guidelines were put out", he said. That guidance from NHS (National Health Service) says a decision to prescribe cannabis must only be used when all other treatments have failed. Simply put, the last resort. For two-year old Jorja it is "the difference between living and dying" according to her father. Many will remember the success Charlotte's web has had in the US with child epilepsy. She was given the medication at a private hospital in London on December 4th, making her the first by prescription. The cost of the treatment is expected to cost more than 12,000 pounds a year. Her father hopes it opens the door for more children to get access to this life-saving treatment. "The dam has broken open," he said. "I hope this day paves the way for many other clinicians to have the confidence to prescribe". Although other children are getting treatment with medical cannabis in the UK, this is the first time it has been prescribed by a doctor since it was rescheduled November 1st according to EndOurPain, a medical cannabis advocacy group in the UK. INFUSED RECIPES
Totally Dank Turducken Ingredients: 1 small chicken (3 1/2 to 4 pounds pre-boning), bones removed 2 pounds raw bulk sausage meat 1 duck (4 to 4 1/2 pounds pre-boning), bones removed 6-8 tablespoons of cannabis infused vegetable oil 4 tablespoons infused cannabis butter or olive oil 1 turkey (10 to 13 pounds), carcass removed, legs and wing bones left intact
While chicken is cooking, season the duck on all sides with salt and pepper. Place a 36- by 12-inch piece of plastic wrap on the cutting board. Lay duck flat, skin side down, on plastic wrap. Spread remaining sausage evenly over surface of meat. When chicken is cooked, remove from bag and plastic wrap and carefully pat dry with paper towels. Place hot chicken directly on top of duck, aligned along the center. Using the plastic wrap to aid you, carefully shape the duck around the chicken. Roll into a tight cylinder in several layers of plastic wrap. Alternatively, duck can be tightly trussed with butcher's twine. Place chicken/duck inside a vacuum sealer bag and seal. Place in a large stockpot and cover with warm water. Place over medium-high heat and heat until bubbles just begin to rise from the bottom. Reduce heat to lowest setting and cook until Duck feels firm to the touch, about 30 minutes. Remove duck from water. If you used a vacuum bag or plastic wrap, remove both, then tightly truss the duck with twine. Dry exterior thoroughly with paper towels. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over mediumhigh heat until shimmering. Add duck/chicken and cook, turning occasionally, until well browned and crisp on all sides, pouring off excess rendered fat as necessary (you can reserve this fat for another use),
about 15 minutes total. Adjust oven rack to lowest position and preheat oven to 425°F. Place turkey skin-side-down on a cutting board and season exposed surface with salt and pepper. Remove twine from duck/chicken and place in the center of the turkey, aligned along the center. If necessary, trim duck/chicken roll so that is is the same length as the turkey breasts. (You can serve the excess duck/turkey as well). Carefully lift one side of the turkey to cover the duck/chicken, then lift the other side, letting the skin overlap by at least 1 inch. Use metal or wooden skewers to secure the skin in 5 to 8 locations. Carefully transfer turkey to a V- or U-rack set in a roasting pan, seam-side down. With the turkey's legs facing you, place a long piece of butcher's twine behind the breasts, tucking it into the wing joints. Pull it around the breast along its base to the bottom of the breast, then allow the ends to cross over. Wrap each end around the end of the drumstick, and pull them tightly together. Loop the ends of the twine around both drumsticks a few times to secure, then tie a knot and trim the excess. Rub remaining cannabis infused oil all over turkey and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to oven and roast until golden brown, turkey breast meat registers at least 150°F on an instant read thermometer, and thighs registers at least 165°F, about 1 1/2 hours. Transfer to cutting board, carefully remove skewers, and allow to rest for 20 minutes. To carve, remove legs and wings. Split breast in half lengthwise down the center to create two boneless halves. Slice crosswise into serving slices. Drizzle remaining cannabis butter or olive oil over everything.

Shape 12 ounces of sausage into a log roughly 2 inches in diameter and place in the center of the chicken. Lift one side of chicken and wrap tightly around sausage. Lift the other side, allowing the skin from both sides to overlap and form a seal. The chicken should now be wrapped around the sausage. Quiver Sensual Pleasure Cannabis Oil
High Mountain Raw Honey Gummies
Siouxsie Q
Daisy Dahlia
Quiver’s approach to THC infused intimacy lube (or, excuse me, “sensual pleasure cannabis oil”) isn’t new, per se,—other formulas have added essential oils, such as tea tree, to a natural oil like safflower or coconut. But HerbaBuena’s product, Quiver, is unique in its flavor profile, infusing bold spices like cinnamon and clove to create a festive and cozy feeling inside one’s orifice. However, I caution users who may be attracted to this product, as those of us willing to put spicy, potentially psychoactive products on our genitals might also be using this product for some varsity level bedroom activities. Some of the more "extra erotic" sexual mainstays in my personal life, when combined with a product that contains 120 mg of THC and “a whisper of black pepper” have the potential to create a little too much stimulation, as spicy flavors can often feel like tearing or stinging if applied to tissue that is inflamed. So choose your intimate activities wisely when infusing with Quiver. I recommend softer, oral play so that both partners can enjoy the benefits and the taste of this festive and adventurous product.
High Mountain Raw Honey Gummies are an innovative new cannabis infused candy made from fresh, raw organic honey. This honey is harvested by a family of beekeepers high in the mountains of Colorado. The honey is then transported to San Diego where the infusion magic can happen. These gummies only have a few ingredients and they’re all organic: raw honey, vanilla, cane sugar, orange juice, grass-fed gelatin and cannabis. They do the infusion with either flower or concentrate, but the oil extraction is done with honey that gets re-infused into more honey so you’re basically just talking about a difference in dose. Each hexagon shaped honey gummy weighs 20 grams. The flower infused are 50mg of THC and the concentrate infused are 150mg. They taste deliciously unique as a candy and as long as you like honey and getting high, you’ll love these candies. They look and feel like a gummy but the taste is all new. Because they’re made from raw honey, you won’t want to carry one around for more than a day, but as long as you keep these in the refrigerator they’ll be fine. Most gummies you see have a lot of artificial colors, flavors, high fructose corn syrup and other These aren’t quite vegan but they’re totally organic and including the cannabis only have six ingredients. The cannabis used to infuse was a mix of Birthday Cake OG and Purple Punch. The effects produced are natural and relaxed feeling and lasted 4 and a half very steady hours.
The organic list of ingredients include: coconut oil, cannabis, a whisper of vanilla, black pepper, cinnamon, and clove. As with all other coconut or natural oil products, this lubricant is not latex safe so be very careful if you’re using condoms. Check out the website at herbabuena.com/ quiver for even more details.
Raw honey is antibacterial, anti-viral, improves digestion, cures toothaches, clears up acne, reduces muscle fatigue and so much more. Bees have been producing honey for over 150 million years so you can trust that they know what they’re doing. VETERAN'S CORNER
Veterans Walk and Talk Colin Wells
“Veterans Walk and Talk” has been highly active in cannabis activism lately. We have advocated and medicated at American Legion Post 397 in Monterey Park and Post 134 in Paramount, CA. We were able to medicate on sight during a Cannabis Open House at the Monterey Park American Legion Post 397 thrown by the 420 Support Group. The American Legion is known to have well stocked bars in every post where veterans can gather together. Gathering veterans is of course a great idea, however, the alcohol aspect is something that must be addressed during this suicide rampant time. A safe place to medicate is what these American Legion Posts are now gearing towards with the help of critical thinking leadership set on helping the veteran suicide epidemic. The Roseville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1487 has also recognized the work of cannabis advocates by honoring several of us with “Outstanding Community Service Recognition” given by the California State Legislatures 6th District Representative Assemblyman Kevin Kiley. Along with Veterans Walk and Talk the other honorees included Weed for Warriors and Operation EVAC. It was truly a great day for cannabis and veterans. It capped off an 8 day trip I took up to Northern California. I left the incredible Rancho Ecomar Farms and drove into a storm about 222 miles before
pulling over and sleeping in my truck. I awoke in the trees and knew I was on the right path. I arrived at Emerald Campgrounds in Trinidad, CA and setup my tent and established a dry area to sit in. It was raining hard and I smoked a piney OG to relax into the night. It rained hard and I spent some time fixing leaks until I was dialed in and dry. And in heaven. Sweet solitude overtook me and though I was alone I was never lonely. I woke to see the biggest and baddest trees I’ve ever seen and realized immediately why the best cannabis in the world is grown here. The air, soul, and sun are all vital but it’s the vibe that cannot be duplicated. The area truly deserves the creation of an appellation of origin. Which is based on the French term appellation d’origine contrôlee. This would give cannabis from the famed Mendocino and Humboldt Counties the certificates of tradition they need to keep what they’ve clearly earned with tireless hours and the constant threat of arrest for many years. Many of these farmers have saved lives with the medicine they grow and that cannabis is as special as the vibration off the redwoods. We can all acknowledge that cannabis is tripping over itself. Recreational is stepping on the medicinal side and vice versa and we who have had our lives saved by this plant are left in the middle. But the ones who have put in the time deserve to have what they have given protected and recognized. Cannabis is center stage in Northern California and not just in the traditional sense. It is a livelihood and a way back to our lives. It is our passion and
our hobby. Our medicine and our recreation. My time amongst the trees of NorCal taught me that there is more beauty and wonder in the world than I ever thought. I will not rest until every veteran and human in the country has the right to choose cannabis. Our mission here at @ veteranswalkandtalk continues to grow and consistently provides a safe place for veterans to share their experiences and learn about the benefits of holistic medicine. We have opened a High Desert, California Chapter, @veteranswalkandtalkHD. We are focused on getting veterans to understand cannabis and all it can do to help us get back doing what we love. For us we love the outdoors and we love serving our fellow humans. What we are doing is working for every veteran that steps off with us and it is imperative that our mission is taken seriously. To paraphrase the great JFK “we must not behave so petty when our cause is so great.” Cannabis and its power to heal and unify is at the forefront of our mission. Our work with @veteranscannacoalition will change the world and we will do it hand in hand one step at a time. Colin Wells is an Army Infantry Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and the founder of @veteranswalkandtalk, a group of veterans who hike, provide outreach, and advocate for the use of holistic remedies. Q: CAN SMOKING CANNABIS CAUSE CANCER? A: A 2017 report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines found that smoking cannabis does NOT increase the risk for cancers associated with tobacco use such as lung, neck and mouth cancer. This does not mean that smoking cannabis does not cause cancer at all. It just means doctors have not found a connection between smoking cannabis and cancer. Q: CAN VAPORIZING CONCENTRATES CAUSE CANCER? A: Compared to smoking herb these products are still in their infancy. So doctors really don’t know if these products will cause cancer or not. If you are concerned about your health stay away from any product that contains pesticide, solvent or is cut with any bullshit like propylene glycol or MCT oil. Make sure you trust who you are buying from. Q: CAN SMOKING CANNABIS CAUSE RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS? A: Yes, smoking cannabis regularly has been associated with chronic bronchitis, phlegm, and chronic cough. These issues are a problem for some daily users and often subside if / when cannabis smoking is cut back. Q: IS IT SAFER TO SMOKE OR VAPORIZE CANNABIS? A: Generally speaking vaporizing cannabis i s t h o u gh t to be a h ea l t h i er a lte r n a t i ve Issue 51 I Page 54

to smoking. When you smoke pot you inhale hot smoke particles and over 2000 chemicals that are created from burning it. True vaporization heats up the cannabis oil just hot enough to turn the extract into a vapor that you inhale. Vaping should be much smoother on the lungs and contain a fraction of the number of chemicals compared to smoking.

HIGH MOVIE REVIEW (cont'd)
Crazy Rich Asians Continued from PG 55
relate to these scenarios directly, as my mother was an immigrant that came to America to escape a life of martial law and communism where she was from. My grandmother had stories of having to swim through dead bodies in a sea stained red by blood, to get to the boat, filled with more dead bodies, as a 5 year old with her family escaping to Taiwan from the Chinese war. My grandparents immigrated after their children did, so I was lucky enough to have the memories of making dumplings as a family together. My Chinese grandparents didn’t speak any English so I had to learn broken Chinese to communicate with them, and everytime I would speak Chinese they would tell me how American my accent sounded. But even in my own Chinese family, I am half-white, and even being Americanborn like my cousins, I’m still looked at as different. Not only does Crazy Rich Asians accurately tackle Chinese culture, and the guilt and judgment that takes place within their own families, it shatters any stereotype or mold that Hughiearen’t Stonefish Asians marketable in a Romantic Comedy. I actually can’t remember the last time I paid to see a rom-com in the theaters. I usually try to spare my boyfriend and we’ll stream on Amazon or Netflix some rom-com that had been released earlier this year, and we’ll save the movies like superhero films for the big screen. There was something very special about this film, and it was beyond a great cast, good acting, it really had a great storyline that expanded beyond just a boy meets girl, and happy ending. They say the best movies are based on books, and this one comes in a 3 part series. We hope that they will get greenlight for the next two studio releases, and we hope this sets a new precedent on casting with representation. They also say there are no bad actors, just bad casting. Henry Golding plays handsome and charming, so believably well in his first movie role. Constance Wu plays a perfect “banana,” a term used in the film to reference her as “yellow on the outside and white on the inside.” Awkwafina plays the comic relief so well, I feel like everyone has a friend like her in their group they can relate to. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but its funny, it’s moving, it’s believable and takes place in a modern day setting that feels real to the viewer. It is just one culture tackled, and hopefully so many more to come. It feels like a special time in history for films like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians to be made. In Crazy Rich Asians, you could replace Asians with black, Greeks, latino, white, etc. and it would still be relatable because the story is about identity, knowing who you are, tradition, approval from your family and following your heart. I read and heard other press interviews about the movie before I saw it, and the best way it’s been put but John Chu the director himself, by the end of the movie you don’t even notice you’re watching a film about Asians, you’re watching a great story. That’s why you should see it, it’s a great film, it’s making history, and you get to see the 1% of the 1% of the opulence in Asia. Issue 51 I Page 58

Sequoia Analytical Surrenders its Business License After Falsifying Nearly 800 Tests
ULTRASONICS for Cannabis
B. Le Grand
One of the main points of concern I brought up to the Bureau of Cannabis Control (before that was their finalized name as California’s regulatory agency tasked with licensing commercial cannabis businesses), was how did they plan to enforce testing regulations? We have even heard from certain labs, “you can just Photoshop your results,” or “how much do you want it to say?” - in terms of potency.

N o w , t h e e p i to m e o f t h a t co n ce r n h a s materialized as Sequoia Analytical Labs surrendered its business license after a state inspection revealed the lab director allegedly falsified test results for nearly 800 tests. 1:16 PM Hundreds of products may have to be recalled and retested, but it is unclear how many products are still available on the shelves to be recalled. There are currently only 43 state licensed labs according to the BCC website. The loss of a popular operating lab could create a bottleneck for Sacramento based labs. In upcoming January 2019, additional testing requirements will go into effect for toxins such as heavy metals, potentially bottle necking even further the already dwindled chain of supply of cannabis products. Sequoia Analytical Labs acknowledge on their social media and direct interaction with clients, that the problem came to light during an inspection by the BCC on November 27th, 2018. During the inspection, officials found that 22 of 66 required pesticides were not being tested for correctly because of a “faulty instrument.” Sequoia Analytical stated, “It was further discovered that the Lab Director knew about Issue 51 I Page 60

this and was secretly falsifying the results in order to issue COAs (Certificates of Analysis) from July 1 to Nov. 27.” The company said it was “horrified to learn about this severe breach of a very important s a fe t y re g u l a t i o n . ” T h ey vo l u n ta r i ly surrendered their cannabis business license, “while we make the required corrections.”

Corrective action has been taken, as the lab director has been fired and a replacement has already been brought on. The company hopes its license will be reinstated by January 1st, 2019, but who knows how long it will take to execute this recall. Sequoia wrote in their public statement, “The BCC should be contacting distributors so that affected products may be retested.” The lab said they have already notified the 30-40 distributors it worked with near the time of recall. They are offering to retest products free of charge for any clients affected by the fraudulent results. It is not clear if their tests without a state license would even be useable. The free retesting also does not cover the hazard and liability that goes along with a consumer potentially suing for the consumption of pesticides, or the cost of the recall. Steven Dutra, Sequoia’s general manager, told Marijuana Business Daily that the BCC is not demanding that product be pulled in and destroyed. “The BCC wants product recalled and retested. Hopefully, they can just have a pesticide retest. We’re trying to determine that, because that’s a lot less expensive than a full panel retest,” Dutra said. Dutra said 700-800 certificates of analysis appear to have been falsified by the former lab director, and those products will now have to be recalled, if possible. “We’re probably looking, since July 1, at something in the neighborhood of 700-800 batches of [cannabis products] that didn’t have full and correct pesticide testing,” Dutra said. This is the largest product recall to date in California’s legal cannabis market. EdiblesList.com I EdiblesMagazine.com

INFUSED RECIPES
Gluten-Free Reefer Rhubarb Pot Pie
Directions Position one oven rack at the bottom level and the second rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Roll the pie dough into a 12" to 13" circle on a piece of plastic wrap, a silicone rolling mat, or in a pie bag that's been heavily sprinkled with gluten-free flour or flour blend. Invert the crust into a lightly-greased 9" pie pan, pressing it into the pan. Refrigerate it while you make the filling. To make the filling: Whisk together the sugar, tapioca, and salt. Toss the rhubarb and strawberries with the sugar mixture. Spoon the fruit into the pan, filling it about 3/4 full and mounding the filling a bit in the center. Place dabs of cannabis butter on top of the filling, then return the pie to the refrigerator. Roll the remaining crust into an 11" circle. Invert the crust atop the filling and, using your fingers or the tines of a fork, crimp and/or pinch the edge of the top crust with the edge of the bottom crust to seal. Bake the pie on the bottom oven rack for 20 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F, move the pie to the middle rack, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the crust nicely browned; it's helpful to have a pie shield or some foil at the ready in case the edge of the crust begins to brown too quickly. Remove the pie from the oven, and let it cool for an hour or so, to set. Add remaining dabs of cannabis butter to top of pie. The pie may be served warm, but it'll be a bit messy; it sets as it cools. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired. Yield: one 9" pie, 8 to 12 servings. PIE CRUST Ingredients: 1 1/4 cups Gluten-Free Multi-Purpose Flour or brown rice flour 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/8 cup (6 tablespoons) cold cannabis butter 1 large egg 2 teaspoons lemon juice or apple cider vinegar Directions Lightly grease a 9" pie pan. Whisk together the flour or flour blend, sugar, xanthan gum, and salt. Cut the cold butter into pats, then work the pats into the flour mixture until it's crumbly, with some larger, pea-sized chunks of butter remaining. Whisk the egg and vinegar or lemon juice together until very foamy. Mix into the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture holds together, adding 1 to 3 additional tablespoons cold water if necessary. Shape into a ball and chill for at least one hour. Allow dough to rest at room temperature for 15 minutes before rolling. Roll out on a piece of plastic wrap, on a silicone rolling mat, or in a pie bag that's been heavily sprinkled with gluten-free flour or flour blend. Invert the crust into the prepared pie pan.
