FROM THE EDINA FAMILY CENTER COORDINATOR Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year which begins on September 1st, 2015 and ends June 3, 2016. Based on feedback from the community about our 2-5 year old preschool classes and the registration process, we have created our first Edina Family Center Preschool and Child Care catalog, to give families the ability to register for both preschool and child care together. Our one day Early Childhood Family Education catalog (ECFE) will come out in early April and will include more one day parent/child classes for you and your 2-5 year old children. We’re hoping that this change more closely aligns with how your family plans their school year! New for Two’s In an effort to offer more preschool options we are running two sections for two year olds with 14 hours of independent preschool and two hours of parent child programming a month. See page 5 for more details. Older twos can now attend an independent preschool experience for two and one half hours a week by enrolling in a class that is team taught with early childhood special education. See page 6 for more details. New for Three’s We are also offering a four morning a week, three year old preschool section, that offers parent/child connections on a monthly basis. See page 8 for more details. Thanks for letting us partner with you and your family. Best Wishes, Laurie Denn Edina Family Center Coordinator

Did you know? Early Childhood screening is required before entrance in Minnesota’s public schools. Complete this form today to schedule an appointment.
Join us at screening as soon as your child turns 3! Discover more about their development and learning, such as: • Thinking, language, and communication skills • Social and emotional development • Large and small muscle coordination • Height and weight • Vision and hearing • Immunization status
Screening Appointments The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a FREE and simple check of how your child is growing and developing offered through the Schools of Eastern Carver County. Between the ages of 3 and 4, screening can detect possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before they start school. Parents accompany their child through the approximate hourlong process. After the screening activities, the screener shares information on a child’s growth, development, and learning.
18 | Edina Family Center 2015-2016
Screening appointments are offered intermittently throughout the year on: • Thursdays from 1:00 pm – 6:30 pm • Fridays from 8:00 am – 3 pm • Saturdays from 8:00 am – 11:30 am Appointments are scheduled every 30 minutes on the half hour.
To Schedule a Screening Appointment for Your Child: • Please complete the form and submit electronically or print this form and mail/fax to us An e-mail message confirming your appointment will be sent to you within two school days.
