EDITORA 6
Disseminating art, even today, is a complex task. The globalization tied to the contact with other cultures not always means exchange and knowledge. The people’s languages are multiple and call for the will of various sectors and new and larger scenarios to expand. For this reason, we celebrate the flourishment of plastic and audiovisual arts in Latin America and the growing flow of novel talents towards international scenes, especially to the United States and, more specifically, to Miami, a city that holds the Art Basel week– where we will be present with this editionand the circuit of exhibits organized around this important fair sets a new pace in artwork. We are privileged witnesses to the greater democratization of this trade in general. Thanks to the expansion of communications, creative works that until not long ago were entirely dependent on the museums and gallery advertisements for their dissemination, now have different venues where they can be seen and acquired not only by those who are knowledgeable, but also by a massive audience that now easily has access to artistic proposals that especially appeal to them. This is a heterogeneous and progressive group that is free to create works of art that impose a different view due to their singular traits. The artwork shown here in photographs, paintings, sculpture and drawings has varied sources, with the common root of their countries of origin. Latin America winks an eye beyond the trends, schools or techniques of the artists. Art, as love, has beauty as its companion and although it frequently seems out of reach and eluding us with its indirect ways, it ends up permeating all that surrounds us once the distances are overcome. Our purpose is to promote the discovery of plastic and audiovisual arts, the respect for its multiple forms, and the learning and practice of its universal language. That is the intention of this book.

ALESZI ALEJANDRO SZILÁGYI The sobriety of ALESZI’s artwork makes the materials speak and express with serenity their inner beauty, their natural blessing. It is not about changing their character, on the contrary, it is about revealing their personality so that it emerges with delicacy. “ALESZI’s work for me is disconcerting, unique and very original. Evidently there is a code he is handling very well. It is crucial for a piece of art to be disconcerting or produce some confusion. Congratulations, certainly very unique artwork.” Leopoldo Maler Visual artist, Director of Parson School of Design. ALESZI was born in Venezuela, lived and went to school in Spain and Germany, with further education in the USA. He currently lives in Colombia and works in Medellin, Caracas, Miami and Palma de Mallorca. Art is his expression of life, ranging from graphical to sculptural artwork.

ALEXANDRA CERUTTI
Alexandra Cerutti Carral was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1990. At 17 years old, she began studying audiovisual arts in Universidad Católica Andrés Bello located in her native country. She had been photographing since 2011, giving the artist the opportunity to appreciate the world. She looks at things differently and sees them how she never saw them before, finding the true beauty of something in everyday abstraction. Her background is in visual arts and through the years she has had the opportunity to exhibit in several galleries in Miami. Cerutti participated in two exhibitions in Venice, was part of a group exhibit in Spain, and exhibited in Bogotá, Colombia, in an International Collective during 2017. At the same year, she was selected by Photographer’s Forum Magazine to be part of the book “Best Photography 2017” with an honorable mention and exhibited in Budapest, Hungary at the beginning of 2018. Beyond the aesthetic beauty, the artist seeks to lead a thought, provoke a reaction, and transmit ‘something’, breaking the usual and exploring the world through her camera lens. Her intention is to create, through an artistic point, something that can become unrecognizable from its original state, but it works as a piece of art, changing the way people see, enhancing the things that she already found and giving its viewers the interpretive freedom to rebuilt the reality and feel the energy, flow and movement through her artwork.

ALEXANDRA POLEO
Born in Caracas, Alexandra Poleo is a Venezuelan-French painter living between South America and Paris. She was born into a family of artists, hailing from the same family as the XIX century artist Cristobal Rojas. Her father is the famous painter Hector Poleo and her mother, the ceramist Adela Poleo. She grew up in Paris in the sixties and seventies among artists, writers, musicians, and poets such as Vicente Gerbasi, Pablo Neruda, Miguel Angel Asturias, Alejo Carpentier, and other artists such as Jesus Soto and Carlos Cruz-Diez, the famous quinetic artists. Her family traveled to Italy, USA, Spain, and France, giving Poleo the love for museums and works of art. Having a natural talent for painting since childhood led Poleo to dedicate herself to art. She studied Art History and participated in her first group exhibition on 1977. Poleo also has a vocation for music, having studied music at the Conservatoire National SupĂŠrieur de Musique in Paris, and earning second place in classical singing in 1984. After a short career as an opera singer, Poleo had her first solo exhibition in Caracas. Now she paints full-time, and is critically recognized. She also designs jewelry and writes poetry. She has been published in anthologies in both Spanish and French. In France, she is an activist against dictatorship in Venezuela.

ALEXANDRA SALAZAR
Alexandra Salazar was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Studied Graphic Design at the Design Institute of Caracas, and studied for many years art courses in the Boca Raton Art school Museum. Work in Artwise Gallery in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “Few things should be disposable. She is in love with the concept of repurposing something old into something new. Even when she does not know the history of a particular object, she still identifies it with her own experiences and assigns a unique story to it. Her artwork is a mix of those daily objects, so simple and yet so profound, with discarded materials such as magazines, newspapers, pictures, art papers, fabrics and lots of color. Her art, like life herself, is a collage of assemblies that tell their own story. She is motivated by the idea that the spectator may identify or create his own story through her creation. At the end of the day, creation of a story or an object is the ultimate expression of liberty, and one that can never be taken away from us. Alexandra has participated in several exhibitions in the USA, including the Arts School Museum in Boca Raton, Florida. She has also won artistic merits in the Nathan D. Rosen Museum Galle.

ANIRAYS CAMINO
Camino’s art making process is almost as important for her as the resulting pieces. She combines her passion for aerial photography with installations to create imaginary worlds. Her high vantage point photographs provide the stage to the fantastical settings in her work. One of her signature elements is the incorporation of inanimate objects, such as figurines. These theatrical compositions dramatize Camino’s imagery while constructing visual comments on subjects inspired in human desires, quests, sense of identity and belonging. “My passion for vertical and aerial views enables me to create microworlds of the multitudes of individuals captured through my camera lens. The Little figures that I use to represent these lives may be going on the right direction to achieve their goal, and other times they are headed the wrong way ore even lost”. Her photographs highlight the journey and the importance of selfconstruction making the viewer aware of the importance of individual choices. “I want to give the sense that all of our actions are always taking us in some direction; all actions have reactions. The patterns in our live are controlled by repetitive behaviors that can be perpetuated through the consequence of being in a particular environment”. Camino cites Andreas Gursky, Vic Muniz and Christo amongst her biggest influences.

GINA CASTELO BRANCO Passionate about art since childhood, Gina Castelo Branco transmits in her canvases what is inside her, using painting as a way to free her spirit and show her feelings.
Currently she is dedicated to working with mixed media. Fascinated by the human subconscious, in her works she represents her vision of present reality, such as personal dreams, individual struggles, despair, love, feelings, remarkable places and expressions of nature. The acrylic paint that flows on the canvas mixes and reacts with each other creating visually different and visually organic motifs. Gina achieves these results by various means, such as casting, dripping, swirling, glazing, immersion and many other effects. Gina Castelo Branco’s paintings have been exhibited in Portugal, Romania, Norway, Bulgaria and France, where she has already received recognition. Reaching the audience is essential to touch their sensitivity and feelings, awakening in them the love for art. Gina dreams that many people learn to appreciate art and to see art as something financially accessible and that is part of their lives.

J. MARGULIS
J. Margulis was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed advanced photography and master courses at B & W laboratory. Margulis works predominantly in the medium of Geometric 3D Sculpture, Mixed media, and Photography. He came of age with the rise of Geometric abstractionism and Kinetic art, influenced early on by his encounters with the works of Venezuelan kinetic artist JesĂşs Soto and swiss born Constructivist master Naum Gabo. For Margulis, abstraction is the language in which he expects magic to happen, an argot that he masters with ease, where space and its possible construction with the minimum use of materials become one of the playful strategies of his artistic expression. His colorfully sculpted elements emerge as models for his photographic creations, and conversely, each medium coexisting individually, yet dialoguing with the other, creating a variety of discourses based on different perceptions, in an infinite loop in which one agent of expression nurtures and enriches the other. He has participated in several exhibitions and relevant International Art fairs and his art belongs in private collections in Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, PerĂş, Italy, Spain, Australia, China, Dubai and the United States.

KARELIS OLLARVES Karelis Ollarves started on a path with photography concentrating on reality as an object of experimentation with its vast possibilities of light and shadow, of colors and multiple dimensions. As a tireless traveler, her adventures have taken her from major cities and art centers such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Centre Pompidou, to the most remote places in the world, allowing her to elaborate a reflective discourse between what is presumed as observed reality and what is finally offered to the viewer. The exploration of the Amazon rainforest and the expeditions to the Gran Sabana in Venezuela, including Angel Falls, have undoubtedly been a source of inspiration for her as a contemporary artist. Karelis recognizes that in her photographic work different variables converge to determine the final result, both in terms of the use of technology and the artist’s mood. “Each image is a fantasy that is presented as reality. Karelis Ollarves continues to participate in a variety of exhibitions including galleries and art fairs in the United States and Latin America.

KATIA YACHMANN
Katia Yachmann born in Brazil. Art manifested itself in her life as medium that “heals the healer”. In a creative and curious attempt to decorate her home, she created her first art piece. MARIANELA HOLLY
Visual artist, photographer and graphic designer. Graduated in Bellas Artes, Cali-Colombia.
Marianela’s upbringing was amidst walls that were decorated with copies of Renaissance Period paintings. They awakened a curiosity, and she was very much intrigued by its perplexities. ¨Meninas,¨ is the result of Marianela’s search to combine traditional art with contemporary graphics. After working as an artist for over 20 years and falling in love with Pop Art, she decided to bring back those masterpieces with a modern edge. She deeply believes that art is directly associated with the visual communication. Her art holds unexpected messages. Color impressions, great textures, and acrylic paint blend to create dynamic pieces. She has created a series of contemporary artwork and industrial photography, which convey the way she perceives art, and the world.

PATRICIA LOPES
Contemporary abstractionism artist, Patricia Lopes was born in Brazil where she obtained the degree as Bachelor in Visual Communication, and later as Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, USA. In 2009, beginning of her studio in Londrina, Parana state, Brazil, where she lives. Patricia has participated in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and the United States. Her creative process starts with the photographic record after careful observation of the details that make up the world around her. She highlights these details of the images with which she identifies and interfere digitally, deconstructing them with cuts and enlargements in search of the essence of their first/abstract skin. Rework pictorially on these modified images, with overlapping layers of gestural textures, grids and the inclusion of geometric and organic figures. Throughout the compositional process, of this new world that she proposes, she uses as a base of structure, a constructive grid in search of a new order to the chaos that is manifested in lights and shadows. The recognized art critic, Enock Sacramento, had said: “Patricia creates her art based on some assumptions such as the dissolution of the narrative, fragmentation, transversality, hybridism, appropriation, interaction. Although she has worked with pure forms of art such as drawing and engraving, her artistic work in the last few years has been established above all in the field of mixed techniques which prevail in the sphere of the contemporary.

PATRICIA ORTEGA
She was born in Bogota Colombia Graduated as a lawyer from the Universidad Libre of Colombia. Carried out studies on plastic arts, techniques and expression at the Universidad El Bosque, in Bogota; Art and Visual Perception. Has a degree on Contemporary Art Theory from the Javeriana University of Colombia. Was an apprentice of the Master Armando Villegas in Bogota, Colombia. Has developed the design, production and assembly of Exhibitions in Museums, Art Galleries and Art Centers in Javeriana University. She is a cultural manager. Has developed workshops with the historian, researcher and art critic Álvaro Medina. “Patricia Ortega has found in the keyhole a world full of symbolism and mystery. Unlike the voyeur who gets excited watching the private world of a neighbor, in this visual artist is the curiosity to explore an unknown space that leads her to reflect on the intimacies of human beings; what is hidden beyond the surface of the people that surround her”. The writer Eduardo Marceles says: “Her compositions refer to mysterious rock formations, crossroads and labyrinths in ancestral caverns, whimsical spaces that the artist discovers when she crosses the threshold to an unknown universe. They are actually the testimony of a spiritual philosophy that seeks to recover for art the riches of Nature.”

RAFAEL MUCI
Rafael Muci, graduated with an architecture degree from Venezuela’s Central University (FAU-UCV) over 14 years ago. At the turn of the century, he found himself in New York, pursuing a Master’s Degree in New Media (digital) Arts, at the Interactive Telecommunications Program of New York University. As a child he was attracted to cartoons and silly images, American, Japanese, European comics made way to his hands and had an impact… The Beatles also made a mark, specially “The Yellow Submarine”, the graphics in the movie grew roots in his subconscious, only to appear in this stage of his life. Trying to find his way, he stumbled upon many things, until he fo-und a delta in Architecture… Art gave him an approach to design, and through design he does art. About his job he says, “looking past the obvious, in close observation and engagement of the subject, regardless of its form or shape, is my process. The challenge is to see beyond the distraction of the conspicuous to capture its unique self, finding the hidden patterns within. Some of my subjects are quite beautiful, others less so. My goal is to bathe the spectator in light, and, inspire those who see my work to look closer at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places, and light where darkness is prevalent.”

WILFREDO BRAZON
The artist Wilfredo Brazon was born in Cumana City, Sucre State, Venezuela. For forty years, Brazon has captured colors and is always changing and dabbling in new brushstrokes. His work has been exhibited in numerous fairs and galleries in Saudi Arabia, Canada, United States, Panama, Chile, and Argentina. Even as a child and growing up by the sea, his love for colors was influenced by his curious mind and shy personality. This took his soul to places that he had only seen in his dreams. The respect for the sea, the creatures, and its preservation are his inspiration. The sea and the sounds of birds also provide the best channel for inspiration to flow through his hands. “When I create my artwork, I feel free. Nothing else in the world gives me this feeling. When I have the feeling of freedom, I am another person. I use this feeling with my motivation and inspiration to bring me to the point of no limit. All that is in the moment is the colors that play with my brushes.
