READING TIPS…

Work and professions are always changing. Educators and parents constantly ask themselves what is the best way to guide children and young boys and girls towards the future. What is more important for them to learn? What do they have to learn? Among so many questions, one thing’s for sure: imagination and creativity are essential skills for any professional. Along with them, the ability to read, understand and write are also fundamental. That is why this book invites children to read, imagine, dream, and write about themselves and others near or far, in an exercise of self-reflection and discovery about themselves and the world around them.

1. Use all of the inspiration from reading this book to imagine what your job or your career would be like today, even as a child. On a piece of paper, write down the name of this job/career and make a drawing to illustrate it.

2. And what job or career do you see yourself having in the future? Again: use pencils, crayons, pens, and anything else you want to write and draw what you want to be when you grow up.

3. Gather your friends to put together a fun exhibit or a collage book!

4. Now that you’ve thought about you and your dreams, what about finding out what your parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and other adults who are important to you imagined they would become when they were children? Did they dream of having a job or a career that was very different than the ones they have nowadays?

5. You can also research about the jobs of others who are close to you and people we only hear about on the television or on the internet: everyone from your teacher to the authors of this book; from the YouTube actor to an award-winning scientist… What do you say?

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A KID WHO WANTED TO BE A DOCTOR. OR A FIREMAN. OR A MODEL. AN ENGINEER. A VETERINARIAN.

THOSE KIDS ARE STILL AROUND, BUT TODAY’S KIDS SOMETIMES WANT TO BE VERY DIFFERENT THINGS WHEN THEY GROW UP.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE LIKE THAT?
