ABOUT THE BOOK
A BOOK TO READ AND SAVOR…
This book was written for children who enjoy reading. Or, at the very least, for children who are learning to enjoy having a book in their hands and listening to the gentle voice of the adult reading aloud to them. “YUMMY” is an invitation for the child to read before, during, or after a tasty morning, lunch, or dinner snack. After all, recognizing mealtime as an important part of the routine and building habits related to eating are part of their development. Here, literature adds charm to the theme: Brazilian wildlife animals are eating, and they need encouragement to continue enjoying their meal with interjections and expressions that repeat throughout the text, resembling a delightful nursery rhyme.
And just like the animals, children eat in different ways: some are still nursing, while others are already eating on their own, maybe with their hands; some suck on their food, while others get their faces messy while eating; some are fed by their parents, while others love playing with their food. The same happens with human children: as they grow, they explore new possibilities for their own comfort and well-being. “YUMMY” is a book about self-discovery and nature, and of course, about the emotional connections that children and adults establish before, during, and after meals, nourishing both the body and imagination with affection and sensitivity.
NATURE INSIDE...
Getting to know Brazilian wildlife animals and recognizing them as unique living beings is a part of our environmental education, especially for children. After all, a love for nature can be nurtured from a very young age, fostering empathy for the environment and the preservation of fauna and flora. In this book, nature reaches the reader as an invitation to reflect on mealtime, a special moment of intimacy and interaction for all animals, especially when adults and offspring gather to eat together. The intention of the book is to reveal how different animals eat, highlighting the similarities between their eating habits and our own.
The illustrations, created from photographs, depict Brazilian wildlife babies and provide details about their appearance and diet,
NATURE INSIDE
allowing readers to become familiar with and appreciate their characteristics. Here, the color, size, and body shape of each little creature stand out. Additionally, the images show how each animal truly eats, following their natural habits. Both the foods (leaves, fruits, meats, and even adorable breast milk) and the contexts in which they are eating (using their hands, accompanied by parents, getting messy, sucking on food, being fed by adults, etc.) reveal details about their nature and routines. The narrative’s charm becomes even more intense when a crocodile appears with a bird walking across its mouth, helping to keep it free from food particles and other debris that come from eating – as if it were truly brushing its teeth and using dental floss!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
My name is ALOMA, and I’m a pedagogue specializing in child development. Besides being a writer, I’m an editor and dedicated to publishing books for babies and young children. My own children have grown up, but I still remember the time when meals were a learning experience full of challenges for them and for me as well. I quickly realized that eating is a cultural construction, as well as a natural necessity. I wrote this book to share the enchantment that mealtime can represent for children and their families, while also showcasing a bit of our wildlife, awakening curiosity and love for nature from an early age – something that is very important to me.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
My name is MATHIAS, and I’m an illustrator of children’s books. Like almost all children, I loved to draw. I loved it so much that I decided to keep drawing until I became an adult. I graduated in Industrial Design and now work on creating images and, sometimes, texts for children’s books, something I really enjoy. The illustrations for this book were created using a mix of techniques: digital painting, traditional drawing, and painting. I’m deeply connected to environmental issues and ecology, which is why I loved creating the illustrations – the book combines things I love: art, animals, and nature.
