Joss and her friends live near the sea, in Ocean Town. Look! There is Joss. She goes to the beach every day. She likes to see the people on the beach. She likes to play with her friends, look at the sea and the birds. But today she’s thinking about her friend Leo.

Leo lives near Joss. They go to school together. They go to the beach together. They do lots of things together! Yes, they are very good friends! And it’s Leo's birthday on Sunday! Let's have a surprise party for him, Joss thinks.

Joss is thinking about Leo when she sees her friends Sue, Clayton, John, Muriel, and Mark. “Hey, Joss! Are you up for a game?” John asks. “Let’s play volleyball!” “I’m in!”
“Tomorrow is Leo’s birthday. I think that he is having a party,” says Muriel.
