Once upon a time…

Emma is a happy girl. She lives with her mom and dad. s parents always help people. Her dad is a police officer, and he helps people in danger. Her mom is a chef. Sometimes, she makes a lot of food, and her restaurant doesn gives the food to poor people. Emma loves Emma goes to school and her parents work. They come home and play together. They They love her. Emma ’ officer, ’ t need it. She her family. have fun!

Sometimes, at home, Emma plays, and says, “I’ m a princess!” Sometimes, she plays and says, “I’m a doctor!” And sometimes, she plays and says, “I’m a teacher!”

Her parents play, too. They say, “ Always dream, Emma! ”

Emma is a good dancer and a good singer. One day, Emma sees a ballet school, and says, “ Mom, may I study ballet here? ”

Emma ’ s mom says, “ No, I ’ m sorry. Our family doesn ’ t have the money. ”

Emma is sad. At home, Emma sees ballet on TV, and dances.

Emma is seven years old, and now her mom is sick and in hospital. She says to Emma, “I love you, my sweet girl. You’ re intelligent and always nice.”

Emma says, “ I love you, too, Mom. Always. ”

Then, one sad day, Emma ’ s mom dies.

Emma is very sad, but she has a beautiful picture, and she can say, “ This is my mom. We can always remember her and love her. ”

Emma helps her dad. She cleans the house and she cooks food. They play and have fun. They ’ re happy.

One day, Emma ’ s dad meets a beautiful woman, Miss Molly. He loves her, marries her, and she is Emma ’ s new mom. Miss Molly has two daughters, and they are Emma ’ s new sisters.

Emma is ten years old now. Emma ’ s dad is working one night, and a bad man shoots him. They fly him to the hospital and the doctors work all day. But it ’ s too late. Emma ’ s dad dies.

Emma is very sad. She says, “I can always love and remember you, too, Dad.”

Emma goes home. She lives with her new mom and sisters now.

Miss Molly and her daughters are not nice or friendly to Emma. They say, “ We can ’ t cook or clean. Can you? ”

Emma is nice, and she says, “ Yes, I can. ”

Sometimes, Emma wants to play. Her new mom says, “ Don ’ t play. Make lunch! ”

Emma can make pasta, rice and beans, lasagna, apple pie, cookies, and cakes. Emma ’ s food is great.

After lunch, Miss Molly says, “ Now clean the dining room and wash the dishes, Emma! ”

Every night, Emma sings and dances in her bedroom. Her new sisters see her, and say, “Emma, you can’ t dance. You’re not beautiful, and you ’ re not smart. ”

But Emma is a good dancer. She is very beautiful and very smart! Her new sisters are jealous.

Her sisters say, “Mom, Emma is not nice to us!”

Miss Molly is angry. “Emma, help your sisters!” she says.

Emma says, “ OK. ”

Her sisters say, “ Emma, clean our bedroom and bathroom. Now! ” Emma is sad, but she cleans.

People at school are nice to Emma, and she loves school!

She has a great friend, Grace. Emma and Grace always study, play, and eat lunch together.

One day, Grace says, “ I love ballet! ”

Emma is happy! She loves ballet, too. Emma and Grace dance, and dance, and dance. Ballet together is their favorite thing! Emma is Grace ’ s ballet teacher and Grace is Emma ’ s ballet teacher. They study and teach together.

Emma says, “ Grace, you ’ re a great dancer! ”

And Grace says, “ Emma, you ’ re a great dancer, too! ”

One day, Grace says, “Come to my house! Let ’ s go play and dance! ”

Emma meets Grace ’ s mom. “ Hi, Emma, ”

“ My name ’ s Naomi and I ’ m Grace ’ s mom. I ’ m happy to meet you. I love my daughter ’ s friends.

Emma often goes to Grace ’ s house. She loves Grace and Naomi. She bakes them beautiful cakes and says, “ Thank you, Naomi and Grace. This cake is a gift for you. ” she says.

Emma is happy, and she says, “ Nice to meet you, too, Naomi. ”

It ’ s a special day at school. The children see a beautiful woman. Emma ’ s teacher says, “Everybody, this is Miss Laura. She is a ballerina.”

All the girls run fast to Miss Laura. They don ’ t say, “ Excuse me. ” They push their friends! They say, “ Miss Laura! Miss Laura! Miss Laura! ”

Emma sees the dangerous moment and says, “ Watch out! ” One girl falls, and Emma helps her.

Miss Laura sees Emma. Now, she likes Emma –she can see that Emma is nice.

Miss Laura says, “ Hi, kids! Who loves ballet? ”

Many children say, “ Me! Me! Me! ”

Miss Laura says, “I have a special ballet school and I want good dancers. Do you like ballet? Yes? Tomorrow, come dance ballet here. Dance well, and you can dance at my ballet school. Wear ballet clothes and ballet slippers.”

Then, Miss Laura sees Emma and says, “ Nice girl, do you like ballet? ”

Emma says, “ I love ballet! I practice hard. ”

Miss Laura says, “Great! Come dance tomorrow, OK?”

Emma goes home. Her sisters say, “ We love ballet! We can dance tomorrow and win! ” They practice ballet and Emma sees – they are not good dancers. Miss Molly buys new ballet clothes for her daughters. Emma doesn ’ t have ballet clothes and slippers.

In the morning, Emma ’ s sisters wear their new ballet clothes and say, “ Mom, Emma can ’ t dance. ”

They are jealous – Emma is a great dancer!

Miss Molly says, “ Emma, you don ’ t have ballet clothes. Don ’ t dance for Miss Laura. Come home and make dinner. ”

Emma is sad.

At school, Emma meets Grace and Naomi.

“Emma, where are your ballet clothes?” Naomi asks.

“ I don ’ t have ballet clothes, ” Emma says.

Naomi is sad. She runs to the store and buys new ballet clothes and slippers and gives them to Emma. The slippers are purple, Emma ’ s favorite color!

“ Emma, dance! ” says Naomi. Emma is happy and says, “ Thank you, Naomi! ”

It ’ s time! All the children are wearing ballet clothes. The room is crowded. Miss Laura says, “ Hi, everybody! Listen! Everybody can dance. Then, give me your name and your phone number. ”

Emma sees the other children dance. She sees her sisters, and they are bad dancers. Miss Laura doesn ’ t like them. Then, Emma sees Grace dance. Grace and her ballet clothes are beautiful. Grace dances well! Emma is happy. She really likes her friend!

Grace says, “ Emma, your turn! Go dance! ”

Miss Laura sees Emma and remembers that she helps other girls. She sees Emma ’ s slippers and thinks, “ Beautiful slippers! They ’ re purple – interesting! ” She thinks, “ Who ’ s this girl? She ’ s special! ”

Then, Emma dances. Her sisters don ’ t see her. Emma dances – turning and leaping like a real ballerina. Everybody claps and stands up. They love her dance!

Emma is very happy.

The Purple Slipper

Emma’s parents die, and she goes to live with Miss Molly. Emma loves ballet, and she wants to dance – but she must cook and clean for Miss Molly and her two horrible daughters. Then, one day, a ballet teacher visits their school, and Emma’s life changes.
