IADS Clinical Exchange Programs (ICEPs) have always been an essential part of our International Organisation and one of the main activities offered by IADS to its members. Today we are proud to say that we have the highest number of members in the history of our association with the ICEP being one of the main attractions for new country members to join IADS. Thanks to the farsighted vision of those who believed in innovation and in making a difference, a unique tool was designed to systematise exchange activities all around the world - the IADS Exchange Portal.

This huge success makes me proud in leading the team for the 2017 term. Nothing would have been possible without their great effort in setting up, organising and making exchanges happen all over the world. Therefore I would like to thank all the Exchange Officers from the bottom of my heart. Finally, this has been an year for consolidating the efficiency of a system which is leading IADS members to see the best year they have ever experienced. Communication was enhanced, efficiency was improved and hopefully most of the Officers are now aware of the mission we are responsible of: making the difference in education of future dentists. My very last message goes to those who believed in me and supported my path in this amazing Organisation which represents the not ultra plus in dental students associations worldwide. IADS INTERNATIONAL CLINICAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

REGULATIONS & POLICIES

For more that half a century, the IADS International Clinical Exchange Program (ICEP) has given the opportunity to thousands upon thousands of dental students worldwide to wonder out of their comfort zone and experience dentistry in other countries than their own. Indeed, participants in the IADS International Clinical Exchange Program get to visit foreign countries and enroll in clinical clerkships. These internships have been one of the most important activities organized by our member organizations. The continued functioning of a decades long, studentrun, exchange program is proof that the structure of the IADS International Clinical Exchange Program has been well thought out from the start. Our IADS Leadership Alumni have, over the years, done a great job in ensurring the management know-how of such a program is properly passed down to the next generations of exchange officers. However, the handover of this know-how has always been mostly verbal and through documents (i.e previous issues of this exchange booklet) that hardly weather the test of time. This was one of the reasons that pushed the current IADS

Clinical Exchange Leadership to make sure the next generations of exchange officers have a sound structure to follow, which is anchored within the most important document of our association: the IADS Constitution. To be able to make such a change, the February 2016 IADS General Assembly in Bratislava, Slovakia, have approved a constitutional amendment that permitted bodies within the association to have their own Internal Regulations. This new amendment guarantees that each program organized by IADS can have its own “miniconstitution”, containing rules and policies, which must be followed by all parties involved in said program. Thus, the legislative ground was laid for the same General Assembly to adopt the first edition of the IADS International Clinical Exchange Program’s Regulations & Policies - a document that contains new rules to ensure the continuity and growth of our student exchange program. From here on out, the Internal Regulations of the IADS ICEP will serve as the guiding principles for all IADS exchange officers and potential exchange students. You may find the publication copy of these new internal regulations on our website (http://www.iads-web.org) and on our official social network pages.

IADS Clinical Exchange: To Infinity and Beyond

As technology around us is evolving and we start to live in a world that stresses immediacy, where everything we need is more often than not only a few keywords and a push of a button away, we have come to realize that in order to grow and evolve the IADS clinical exchange program to include even more hosting countries and a bigger number of exchanges each season, we need to embrace the technological advances that are available to us. This is why we have endeavored since the beginning of the 2015/2016 IADS term, to develop and prepare the IADS Exchange Portal. In brief, it is a website that would make an already functional and effective way of handling the IADS exchange applications, into a streamlined process which guides both students and our member countriesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; exchange officer into making sure the exchange experience is the best that can be, by limiting the hassles of paperwork, encouraging transparency and easing access to information about our membersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; exchange programs. We are hoping that starting this year, dental students from around the

world will be able to login to their IADS Exchange Portal account and easily look for clinical internships offered by our member countries. They will also have the opportunity to simply follow the guidelines towards applying to any clinical internship that interests them and track their application status. Eventually, the goal is to make the IADS Exchange Portal a central database where all of the different aspects of our exchange programs are handled: from contract signing between our member officials, to students applying, going into exchange and reporting back on their experience. Ultimately, our goal is to make it easier and more accessible for all dental students worldwide to experience the joy and thrill of visiting foreign countries and living dentistry as their hosting colleagues do. And we are betting on the Internet, as an instrument of growth, to reach our target.

Our local committees are distributed over almost all dental schools in Egypt, so we are expecting to receive exchange applications from IADS students to do clinical internships at university clinics of -an old city known as ‘Bride of the Mediterranean Sea’- Alexandria, or at university in -Land of Fayrouz- Sinai where the highest mountain peak in Egypt is existing (Mount Catherine) and for sure the unique marvelous beaches of Sharm Elsheikh. -About the University Founded on 5 June 1224 by the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Frederick II, The University of Naples Federico II is the oldest public and laic university of the world. It is one of the oldest academic institutions in continuous operation and it is the third University in Italy by number of students enrolled. Today the university consists of three semi-independent divisions responsible for the research and teaching of 13 schools and 82 different departments: the Division of Science and Technology, the Division of Life Sciences and the Division of Social and Human Sciences. Over the years the University of Naples has had several venues but today there are three major campuses, one in central Naples, one in the Fuorigrotta district in the west and one on the hill of Camaldoli in the north, hosting the School of Medicine. Today, it has 13 Departments and 2 Schools. There are two university campuses: Chieti, registered office of the university with the offices of the Rector and General Directorate and Pescara. The Department of Oral Science was born in the 1998 and actually takes the name of the Department of Medical Sciences, Oral and Biotechnology. The Department is composed about 100 teachers and researchers and it’s organized to perform a research in vivo and in vitro by a number of research laboratories. The Department is home to the Master Degree Course in Dentistry, the various courses of the Health Professions Study, PhD, of the Specialization Schools of Education and Higher Education courses. The new exchange project organized by AISO Chieti offers the opportunity to 4 foreign students to spend a week in Italy, in Chieti, at the University G. D’ Annunzio. This experience will allow them to attend different structures, such as dental clinic, research laboratories; attend lectures by prof. internationally renowned; all it accompanied by moments of leisure, free time, entertainment and major neighbouring cities visits.

The exchange student will be involved in the clerkship training with 5th grade dental student. As a clerk, students learn the clinical practice via observation. NDMC has its own hospital, Tri-Service General Hospital, where students can experience the integrated system of six different dental specialities. The advantage of the integrated system is that students can see any kind of clinical operation without following the clinical hours of different departments. In order to be eligible for clinical electives at our hospital, the following requirements must be met: 1. Applicant must be in good academic standing in their own school. 2. Proficient in English or Mandarin, particularly in speaking, listening and reading comprehension are required. 3. Applicant of 4 year course must finished second year to apply. 4.
