It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Rally de Portugal, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

Coincidently, the golden jubilee of the Rally brings great novelties for the fans. Changes in the World Championship result in new WRC cars, more competitiveness, and spectacularity, ensuring the competition a renewed vitality.

The Vodafone Rally de Portugal promises therefore to be a modern rally held in a region of great beauty and with some novelties on the itinerary. The Exponor, in Matosinhos, will host, once again, the Service Park, as well as the majority of starts and finishes. The first day will remain unchanged, with the start in Guimarães and the SSS1, in Lousada.

Friday presents several innovations – Viana do Castelo has a new layout, while Caminha and Ponte Lima are run in the opposite way. At the end of the day, another show of singular beauty with the Braga Street Stage, a 1.9 km test in the historical city centre which will be run twice.

Saturday will now start with a revised Vieira do Minho test and welcomes the Cabeceiras de Basto stage. The day ends with Amarante, the Rally’s longest test.

Sunday will also feature some changes, with Fafe as the centre of all the action. The Luílhas and Montim stages are now in-between the mythical Fafe double passage (the second one as Power Stage and representing 5 extra points for the Top 5).

I would also like to thank the municipalities of Amarante, Braga, Cabeceiras de Basto, Caminha, Fafe, Guimarães, Lousada, Matosinhos, Paredes, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo and Vieira do Minho, as well as the Turismo do Porto e Norte and to the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Norte – CCDRN).

A special word is also due to a very relevant issue contributing to the success of the Rally de Portugal: the safety of the event and, particularly, the safety of spectators. The huge popular enthusiasm stirred by the Rally de Portugal should always be an added value to the tourism in the North of the country. The safety of the event is decisive, and only the commitment of all the WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal will be, yet again, an event crowned with success. The 50th Anniversary of the Rally deserves it.

O Rally de Portugal faz 50 anos!

Écom enorme prazer que lhe dou as boas vindas à edição do Rally de Portugal, que este ano celebra 50 anos.

Por coincidência, as bodas de ouro do Rally trazem grandes novidades para os adeptos. As alterações regulamentares do Campeonato do Mundo trazem os novos WRC, carros mais competitivos e espetaculares, que garantem uma vitalidade renovada à competição.

O WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal promete ser assim um rali moderno, disputado numa região de grande beleza e com algumas novidades no percurso.

A Exponor, em Matosinhos, volta a acolher o parque de assistência da prova, a generalidade das partidas e chegadas das etapas. Para o primeiro dia, mantem-se igualmente a partida de Guimarães e a SS de Lousada.

O dia de sexta-feira é marcado por novidades - Viana do Castelo com um percurso renovado, enquanto Caminha e Ponte de Lima passam a ser disputados em sentido inverso. Ao final do dia, mais um espetáculo de beleza ímpar com a realização do Braga Street Stage, duas passagens com 1.900 metros na zona histórica da cidade.

A etapa de sábado acolhe o troço agora reformulado de Vieira do Minho, e conta com a nova classificativa de Cabeceiras de Basto. O dia encerra com a classificativa de Amarante, a mais longa do Rally.

Domingo também sofre alterações, com Fafe a ganhar peso. Entre as duas passagens pela mítica classificativa (a segunda em formato Power Stage e este ano a representar pontos extra para os cinco primeiros), surgem agora os troços de Luílhas e Montim.

Para o sucesso da prova foi indispensável o apoio dos nossos patrocinadores Vodafone, BP, Hertz e Skoda. Bem como das câmaras municipais de Amarante, Braga, Cabeceiras de Basto, Caminha, Fafe, Guimarães, Lousada, Matosinhos, Mondim de Basto, Paredes, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo e Vieira do Minho, bem como ao Turismo Porto e Norte e à Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Norte (CCDRN).

Por último, um tema fundamental para o êxito do Rally de Portugal: a segurança e, em particular, a segurança do público. O enorme entusiasmo, que rodeia esta prova deve ser sempre uma mais valia para o turismo da região e do País. A segurança da prova é decisiva e só com o empenho de todos teremos novamente um WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal coroado de sucesso. Os 50 anos da competição merecem.
