Antecâmara da principal categoria do Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis, o WRC2 em 2017 está a ser totalmente dominado por pilotos provenientes do Norte da Europa.

Sem espaço no WRC depois do fim da equipa Volkswagen, Andreas Mikkelsen encontrou refúgio na “irmã” checa, a Skoda. O norueguês mostrou que a experiência ao mais alto nível foi muito importante e ganhou logo no início da temporada. Entretanto já repetiu a vitória mas não comanda o campeonato. Tudo indica que vai ser promovido de novo ao WRC e Pontus Tidemand tem tudo para reinar sozinho.

O sueco, também da Skoda oficial, venceu três provas até à data e comanda a competição de forma isolada. O piloto continua as boas prestações evidenciadas em 2016 e isso reflecte-se na classificação do WRC2.

Há, de qualquer forma, a garantia que Mikkelsen e Tidemand se vão defrontar em Portugal. Será o primeiro confronto directo entre ambos. Tudo indica que será explosivo.

Nesta categoria antevê-se um embate extremamente renhido. Entre o lote de candidatos à vitória há vários nomes a considerar para além dos dois mais fortes do campeonato até ao momento. São os casos de Eric Camilli, Teemu Suninen ou Ole Christian Veiby. O francês também já andou de WRC e continua a ser muito apoiado pela M-Sport. Já o finlandês tem crescido enquanto piloto e recebido um apoio sustentado da Toyota. Veiby já mostrou credenciais em categorias mais baixas e está no WRC2 precisamente porque venceu um dos troféus de suporte do campeonato em 2016.

Nota, também, para a participação de Miguel Campos que volta à competição e está inscrito no WRC2.

Without a seat in the WRC after the departure of Volkswagen, Andreas Mikkelsen found his place on the “sister” Czech make, Skoda. Having shown that his experience at the highest level was very important, the Norge started the season winning. Since then he has already repeated the feat, although he is not leading the championship. Rumours say he is about to be promoted back to the WRC, which will leave Pontus Tidemand free to rein on his own.

The Swedish, also an official Skoda driver, has won three rounds so far and leads the chart. The driver has picked where he has left in 2016 with good performances.

However, one thing is certain: Mikkelsen and Tidemand will be competing in the Vodafone Rally de Portugal. It will be the first time they will be face to face and… this is expected to be explosive! Nevertheless, the fight in the category promises to be tight. Among the candidates to the victory there are several names to take into account besides the two major favourites.

Among them are Eric Camilli, Teemu Suninen or Ole Christian Velby. The French also has WRC experience and is very well supported by M-Sport. On the other hand, the Finn has grown as a driver and counts with a sustainable support from returned Toyota. As for Veiby, he has already shown his credentials in the lower category and is on the WRC2 precisely because he won one of the support trophies in 2016.

Defending the national colours, Miguel Campos has returned to the competition and will be racing on the WRC2.
