Situación
San Pedro del Pinatar cuenta con una extensión de casi 22 km2, está ubicado en el Mar Menor, la mayor piscina natural del mundo y uno de los centros turísticos más apreciados del Mediterráneo, con 315 días de sol al año y una temperatura media anual de 17oC. A tan sólo 46 kilómetros de Murcia, es el límite con la provincia de Alicante.
Situation
San Pedro del Pinatar covers 22 km2, it is located on the Mar Menor, the biggest natural lake in the world and one of the most appreciated tourist resorts in the Mediterranean: 315 days of sun a year and an annual average temperature of 17oC. Only 46 kilometers from Murcia, it is on the borders of Alicante Province.
Historia
Ya los romanos pasaban aquí ratos de ocio. Desde entonces, la historia ha dejado trazos imborrables, y costumbres de solera que albergan al hombre desde antiguo.
El rey Alfonso XI alabó la caza de sus pinares. Su puerto fue en la Edad Media el de la capital del Reino de Murcia, por el que salían las ricas frutas y llegaba el trigo siciliano en época de escasez.
Hoy, San Pedro del Pinatar es un municipio apacible, de gentes amables y hospitalarias, donde pasar unos cálidos días de descanso en cualquier época del año.
History
The Romans spent their leisure time here. From that time on history has left indelible marks with the customs and traditions of men from ancient times.
King Alfonso XI praised the hunting in its pine groves. The port was the Capital of the Kingdom of Murcia in the middle ages. Rich fruits left this harbour and Sicilian wheat arrived in times of shortage.
Today, San Pedro del Pinatar is a nice place to be with kind and hospitable people, where one can spend warm days resting at any time of the year.
Parque Regional Salinas de San Pedro
El Parque Regional es un lugar muy frecuentado durante todo el año, constituye un incomparable entorno natural para el recreo y el esparcimiento, es idóneo para acercarse a la naturaleza o pasar un día de excursión.
Los Molinos de Quintín y de la Calcetera son elementos que dominan y adornan el extenso paraje del Parque Regional Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, junto con las montañas de sal que recortan el horizonte.
856 hectáreas de superficie entre mares, dedicadas a la explotación salinera desde los romanos, que conforman un paisaje de estanques, diques o motas, dunas y pinares. Escenario donde actúan a lo largo del año flamencos rosados, zampullines, gallinetas, gaviotas, garzas reales, lechuzas y el pequeño Fartet (pez endémico del litoral).
En el Centro de Visitantes “Las Salinas” se puede contemplar una maqueta del parque, diversas fotografías del ecosistema y unidades didácticas sobre su fauna y flora, ofrece una amplia perspectiva de los valores medioambientales y naturales de la zona.
Cómodas sendas preparadas para recorrer a pie en bicicleta, cruzan y rodean el Parque, dando oportunidad al visitante de apreciar uno de los ecosistemas más interesantes de la Región de Murcia.
No hay que dejar de divisar las “encañizadas”, denominadas así por el origen árabe empleado tradicionalmente en esta zona. Situadas junto al paraje conocido como Punta de Algas, constituyen uno de los puntos de intercambio de agua entre el Mar Menor y el Mediterráneo.
Regional Park “Salinas de San Pedro”
The Regional Park is a lovely setting for recreational and leisure activities, is a popular choice at any time of year, perfect for enjoying the great outdoors or spending a day out.
The Mills of Quintín and Calcetera are elements that dominate and decorate the extensive Regional Park “Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar”, together with the mountains of salt clipping the horizon.
Covering 856 hectares between seas, dedicated to the exploitation of salt from Roman times that has created landscape of pools, dikes or specks, dunes and pine groves. Sceneries where the pink flamingo, grebe, guinea fowl, gulls, royal herons, owls and the small Fartet (fish endemic to the coast) live throughout the year.
In the “Las Salinas” Visitors Center you can see a model of the park, photos of its varied ecosystem and learn about its flora and fauna, it offers a comprehensive overview of the area’s environmental and natural importance.
Comfortable paths ready for walking or cycling, cross and surround the Park, giving the visitor an opportunity to appreciate one of the most interesting ecosystems in the Region of Murcia.
A visit to the “encañizadas”, a traditional fishing method in this area formally used by the Arabs, is a must. Located near the spot known as Punta de Algas, it is one of the points of exchange of water between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea.

Extensas playas desde las que zambullirse. Playa de El Mojón, Torre Derribada, separadas por el rompeolas del puerto, las Playas de la Llana que la componen la Playa de las Salinas, Barraca Quemada y Punta de Algas todas ellas ubicadas en el Parque Regional Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, son abiertas y profundas, de dunas de arena fina y cálidas aguas, muy mediterráneas y solitarias, incluso en los meses de verano.

El lugar ideal para pasar unos inolvidables días de descanso tumbado sobre la arena o bañándose en sus aguas.

Seas
The Mediterranean Sea.
Long beaches ideal for a dip. El Mojón beach, Torre Derribada, separated by the breakwater of the port, the Beaches of La Llana composed by Las Salinas beach, Barraca Quemada and Punta de Algas, are located in the Regional Park “Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar”. They are open and deep, with dunes of thin sand and fresh waters, very Mediterranean and solitary, even in summer.
Mar Menor
The perfect place for a few days’ rest and relaxation, lying on the beach or swimming in their waters.

Paraíso Náutico
El Mar Menor es la plataforma ideal para la práctica de toda clase de deportes náuticos, sus aguas son tranquilas pero con rachas puntuales; la corta profundidad de sus fondos, una suave temperatura media anual y más de 70 kilómetros de costa que siempre dan abrigo, lo convierten en la mejor escuela para el aprendizaje y práctica de la vela y el piragüismo. Los amantes del windsurf encontrarán en la Playa de la Mota una pista de velocidad totalmente natural, en la que aprovechar los vientos de levante sin correr riesgos. Durante todo el año, a primera hora de la mañana, el Mar Menor es un espejo y recorrerlo en piragua es una divertida y segura aventura para todas las edades. El fondo del mar ofrece a los submarinistas el sorprendente encuentro con fondos atractivos y restos de navíos romanos hundidos. Los puertos deportivos, en el Mediterráneo y en el Mar Menor organizan actividades a lo largo del año.
La oferta del municipio se completa con una serie de centros deportivos privados y públicos dotados de piscinas, pistas de tenis, pádel, squash, balonmano, fútbol, gimnasios, etc...
Nautical Paradise
The Mar Menor is the ideal platform to practise all kinds of nautical sports, its waters are calm but with reliable gusts of wind; the shallow water, a gentle annual average temperature and more than 70 kilometers of coast that always protect the land, convert it into the best school to learn and practise sailing and canoeing.
Windsurf lovers will find in La Mota Beach a completely natural course for speed, taking advantage of the winds without running risks.
Throughout the year, early in the morning, Mar Menor is a mirror and canoeing is an amusing and safe adventure for any age.
The seabed offers divers a surprising encounter with attractive sights and the remains of Roman shipwrecks.
The Marinas, on the Mediterranean and on the Mar Menor organize activities throughout the year.
The offer in the town is completed with a series of private and public sport centers endowed with pools, tennis courts, paddle, squash, handball, football, gyms, etc...
Salud y Belleza
Famoso por curativo y embellecedor, la composición del lodo de las charcas, asegura las mayores virtudes para quien se cubre con él. Los lodos de Las Salinas, son fruto de siglos de acción del sol y de las aguas de elevada salinidad del Mar Menor, el resultado es un barro que aplicado sobre la piel tiene un gran valor terapéutico en todo tipo de afecciones: reumatismo, artritis, gota, patologías cutáneas, rehabilitación tras fracturas óseas...
El complemento ideal es un baño en las mineralizadas aguas del Mar Menor. Existen hoteles y centros que ofrecen tratamientos especializados.

Fiestas populares y certámenes culturales todo el año.
San Pedro del Pinatar reúne infinidad de ofertas lúdicas populares, donde el folklore de esta tierra queda patente dado su marcado carácter mediterráneo.
Todas ellas son capaces de cautivar desde el primer momento, puesto que su popularidad invita a participar y disfrutar de las mismas.
Dos fiestas declaradas de Interés Turístico Regional como son la Semana Santa de San Pedro del Pinatar en el Mar Menor y las Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen (16 de julio).
A lo largo del año, la oferta cultural está compuesta por un amplio programa de teatro, diversos encuentros musicales y exposiciones de gran interés.
Festivities
Popular parties and cultural events the whole year.
San Pedro del Pinatar gathers together an infinity of popular activities, where the folklore has a marked Mediterranean character. They all are able to captivate from the first moment, their popularity invites participation and enjoyment of all the events.
Two celebrations are declared of Regional Tourist Interest, which are the Holy Week of San Pedro del Pinatar in the Mar Menor and Virgen del Carmen (July 16th).
Cultural events offered are a wide theatre program, diverse musical encounters and exhibitions of great interest all the year round.

Gastronomía
La cocina es variada y sabrosa.
El plato más conocido es el caldero, arroz cocinado en un recipiente de hierro fundido, según la tradición de los hombres de mar. Y los salazones: delicias del mar, trabajadas por el hombre desde hace milenios. En San Pedro se unen tierra y mar en su gastronomía, de inmejorables productos de su propia huerta y del Mar Menor y el Mar Mediterráneo.
Atún de ijada, mojama, huevas, dorada, mújol, pardete, galupe, langostinos del Mar Menor, zarangollo, perdices de lechuga, habas tiernas, morcilla, morcón y longaniza seca entre otros.
Y para endulzar el paladar, melón, higos, pastel de Cierva, una ración de tocino de cielo y cordiales.
Gastronomy
The cuisine is varied and tasty.
The best known dish is “El Caldero”, rice cooked in a recipient of fused iron, following the tradition of men of the sea.
Also salted fish: sea delights, made by man for millennia. Earth and Sea are joined in the gastronomy of San Pedro del Pinatar, with fantastic products from the Mar Menor and Mediterranean seas.
Tuna fillet, salted tuna, fish roe, gilt head bream, mullet, royal mullet, galupe, Mar Menor prawns, zarangollo, lettuce hearts, tender beans, black pudding, blood sausages and dry sausage among others.
And for the sweet thooth, melon, figs, Cierva pie, a portion of tocino de cielo (egg cake) and cordial (almond biscuit).
Visitas
Retazos de historias recogidos en edificios históricos y museos.
Ubicada en la Finca de San Sebastián se encuentra la “Casa del Reloj” de estilo modernista, declarada Bien de Interés Cultural.
En el centro de la localidad se encuentra la Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol del s. XVIII.
El Palacio del Barón de Benifayó es un edificio de grandes dimensiones, línea palaciega y de estilo neomudéjar, fue construido a finales del siglo XIX, conocida también por «Casa de la Rusa», donde se pueden visitar distintas salas: arqueológica, etnográfica, colección de juguetes antiguos y colección de material cinematográfico antiguo.
En el yacimiento arqueológico de La Raya observaremos más de la cuarta parte escavada de una antigua villa romana.
La Colección Museo del Mar perteneciente a la Cofradía de Pescadores, cuenta con numerosas miniaturas de artes de pesca típicas del Mar Menor como las “encañizadas”, dentaduras de peces, nudos y mapas cartográficos, etc.
Visit
Pieces of history picked up in historic buildings and museums. Located in the Finca of San Sebastián, discover “La Casa del Reloj” of modernist style, declared as Property of Cultural Interest.
In the centre of the town, the Church of San Pedro Apostle of the XVIII century. The Palace Barón of Benifayó is a large building, palatine in form and neomudéjar style, it was built at the end of the XIX century, and is also known as «Casa de la Rusa» where you can visit different showrooms: archeological, ethnographic, antique toy collection and long-standing cinematographic material collection.
In the archeological site of La Raya we can observe more than a quarter of an ancient Roman villa.
In the Sea Exhitibion belonging to the Brotherhood of Fishermen there are numerous miniatures of typical fishing arts of the Mar Menor «encañizadas» (cane traps), Fish jaws, knots and cartographic maps, etc.
