The 2022 South Florida PGA

tournament season has come to an end with two new Rolex Players of the Year being named in Tyler Collet, PGA and Heather Angell, PGA. Additionally, Mark Mielke, PGA secured the Senior Player of the Year title. After being edged out in 2021 by South Florida PGA Hall of Fame Member, Alan Morin, PGA, Collet, an Assistant Professional at John’s Island Golf Club accumulated 1,337 points over the 2022 tournament season, notching his first Rolex Player of the Year by nearly 400 points. This season, Collet finished in the top-10 in five of his nine starts, highlighted by his second place finish at the E-Z-GO South Florida Open at Miromar Lakes Golf Club. On a national level, Collet finished T11 at the National PGA Professional Championship, earning 394 points and catapulting him to the top of the points standings. In addition, Collet made his second consecutive PGA Championship start and his third PGA TOUR start of his career. As the 2022 Rolex Player of the Year, Collet was granted a berth into the 2023 Honda Classic and a spot in the National 2023 PGA Professional Championship. Angell, The Director of Instruction at Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club, managed a near perfect season, accumulating three first place finishes and one third place finish, none sweeter than winning the 2022 Women’s Section Championship at Imperial Golf Club. With 880 total points in only five events, Angell beat out Katie Dixon, PGA Assistant Professional at St. Andrews Golf Club by 170 points. Additionally, Angell secured a top5 finish at the Cadillac Invitational and a second place finish at the Yamaha Pro-Pro Championship. On the Senior level, Mark Mielke, PGA Teaching Professional at High Ridge Country Club accumulated 1,321 points to win his third Senior Player of the Year, narrowly edging out Morin who was the 2021 Senior Player of the Year. Throughout the 2022 season, Mielke managed one first place finish at the South Florida Senior Open and two second place finishes. On the national level, Mielke earned a second place finish at the Florida Senior Open and a T26 finish at the 2022 Senior PGA Professional Championship. Additionally, with a seventh place finish at the SFPGA Section Championship, Meilke earned a spot into the 2023 PGA Professional Championship, joining Collet and others. Finishing in a tie for the Super Senior Player of the Year, PGA Life Member, Pete Oakley, and Jerry Tucker, PGA of Jerry Tucker Golf, wrapped the season at exactly 237.50 total points. The South Florida PGA Player of the Year Awards are based off ROLEX Player of the Year points accumulated throughout the SFPGA Tournament season.
