The Preserve Golf Club Director of Operation Wins 2022 MTA Award
Stephen Miles, Director of Operations at The Preserve Golf Club was awarded the Outstanding Turf Professional Award for 2022 by the Mississippi Turfgrass Association (MTA.). Alan Sullivan, MTA President, presented the award to Stephen for his outstanding leadership in the industry. Miles and his Golf Course Superintendent, Jeremy Stephens, supported by the entire grounds staff at The Preserve Golf Club, ensure the course is always kept in immaculate condition. Stephen, a certified golf course superintendent, graduated from Mississippi State University’s Golf & Sports Turf Management Program in 1998. He served as President of the MTA in 2009, in addition to serving on the board and numerous committees of MTA. Miles has long been dedicated to the turf industry and MTA and was instrumental in establishing Best Management Practices in Mississippi. The Preserve Golf Club, located in Vancleave, Mississippi, eighteen holes of “pure golf” conceived by award winning golf course architect Jerry Pate. The incredible par-71 championship layout has been granted membership to the Audubon International Signature Program for its commitment to the environment. The golf course encompasses 245 acres which is surrounded by an additional 1800 acres of an undisturbed nature conservancy. The golf course design and management team has integrated the native surroundings which include pitcher plant bogs, cypress swamps, long leaf pine savannah, sweet-bay magnolias and native grass prairies.
