MEET & GREET AND INTEGRATION ZUGSPITZE – MOUNTAIN OF SUPERLATIVES

The mountain called and the Oskar von Miller Forum came. Germany’s highest summit was the destination of the joint excursion of the scholarship holders, guest scientists and team members at the beginning of the winter semester. At 2,962 metres, the mountaintop offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view of Alpine peaks in four countries. Unfortunately, the view was partially obscured due to inclement weather conditions, but the first snowfall on the viewing platforms nevertheless made it a great experience for the scholarship holders from all over the world.

A further highlight was the ride on the new Zugspitzbahn, an aerial cable car that carries half a million passengers a year. Featuring the world’s tallest cable car steel support (127 metres) and an elevation gain of 1,945 metres, it also holds the record for the world’s longest free span (3,213 metres). A guided tour of the buildings on top of the Zugspitze provided the future civil engineers, architects and construction technicians with interesting background information about the construction of this impressive work of engineering.
