LEADERSHIP SEMINARS FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
In leadership seminars specially tailored to the needs of the future architects, civil engineers and construction technicians, an experienced business coach prepares the scholarship holders for their role as future leaders in the construction industry.
The seminar held in November 2019 was entirely about “Working in a team – conflict and culture.” Aspects included dealing with conflicting interests and reaching consensus, or handling difficult situations and conflicts in different cultures, or how to work together in multinational teams. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to practice conflict resolution strategies.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, the leadership seminar “Leading myself in the working world” was implemented as a 2-day Zoom event in May. This training helps the scholarship holders to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, improve their motivation and prepare for job interviews. All participants had the opportunity to take part in a trial job interview and received specific feedback on their performance.
Both efficient teamwork and conflict solving represent essential skills for successful professional and personal development. Participation in this seminar gave us the opportunity to analyse our previous experiences and build the strategy for our further work.

Two three-hour online learning nuggets were moreover offered in May and June 2020. The first nugget dealt with “Personal goals and career.” The scholarship holders learned about methods for identifying their goals and milestones. The second nugget, “Emotional intelligence,” helped the participants improve their interaction abilities with others and become more aware of their own patterns of behaviour.
In addition, individual career coaching was offered for the first time. These meet and greet interviews were carried out by an external career coach via telephone or Zoom. The scholarship holders were able to participate on a voluntary basis through advance booking. This offer found an excellent response and a total of 35 interviews was conducted.
» That’s what makes opportunities like leadership seminars so valuable, as we got the chance to train ourselves for the matters often disregarded in educational system – employee communication and teamwork.

I think that they are a great opportunity to learn about relevant topics that I’m sure are going to be useful later in my career (some of them are of great use already). Furthermore, it is a great opportunity to learn and reflect about myself. They have given me chance to identify my strengths and my weaknesses and how to work on them in order to grow at a professional and person level.
