PROGRAMME ADVISORY COUNCIL OF THE OSKAR VON MILLER FORUM

Hans Beer (since 2013) Regional manager of IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt Franken since 2007. Trained concrete technician, since 1986 full-time trade unionist in various capacities in Bavaria, 16 years of which as director. Deputy executive member of the board of Gemeinnützige Urlaubskasse des Bayerischen Baugewerbes e. V. and of the foundation Stiftung Bayerisches Baugewerbe. Alternating supervisory board chairman of Zusatzversorgungskasse der Steine- und Erden-Industrie Bayern (supplementary pension fund). Responsible for collective bargaining policiesin the Bavarian construction industry and stone and earth industry.

Prof. Dr. (Univ. Rom) Dr. h. c. Thomas Herzog (since 2010) Architect of the Oskar von Miller Forum and full professor at several universities. He established his own architectural firm in 1971, developing structural systems and pioneering buildings based on the use of environmental energy. He has won a number of prestigious prizes and awards. Member of national and international academies. Author and publisher of architectural and technological monographs. Emeritus of Excellence at the Technical University of Munich and visiting professor at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani (seit 2013) Architect and architectural historian, established his architecture firm in 1980. Editor of Casabella magazine, then publisher of Domus magazine in Milan and Director of the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt am Main. Headed the Chair of the History of Urban Design at the ETH Zurich from 1994 to 2016. Fellowship at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin in 2017/2018. Professorial posts at Harvard and other international universities, numerous architectural and urban development projects as well as academic publications, particularly on urban architecture in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard Müller (seit 2010) Civil engineer and full professor. On completing his doctorate and qualifying as university professor, he became a consulting engineer and chief executive at a major medium-sized engineering company; since 2004 he has headed the Chair of Structural Mechanics at the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Munich. Since 2014 he has been Senior Vice President for Academic and Teaching Affairs at the TU München.

Serving in honorary capacity, he is member of the Faculty Association and 4ING, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Bavarian Chamber of Civil Engineers, and guidance counselor at the Cusanuswerk scholarship body of the Catholic Church in Germany.

Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Wolff (since 2010) A structural engineer from the Technical University of Hanover, Dr.-Ing. Hans Joachim Wolff first worked at the Institute of Concrete Structures for five years, and then served the DIWYDAG construction company for 32 years, where he was construction manager, branch manager, and served on the board for twelve years – ten of which as chairman. He spent a good ten years as Vice President of the Bavarian Construction Industry Association. Member of various boards of trustees (including Deutsches Museum). From 2004 to 2014, he was Chairman of the Board of DGUV (German statutory accident insurance) in honorary capacity.

Former members

Hans Angerer (†) (2010–2012) Lawyer and former President of the District Government of Upper Franconia. His honorary posts included Director of the administrative management course of the Bavarian State Chancellery, member of the board of trustees of the Oberfrankenstiftung and Chairman of the Curatorship of the Maximilianeum Foundation.

Carsten Kuttnik (2010–2012) In his role as regional manager of IG BAU Bayern, Carsten Kuttnik coordinates the trade union’s activities in Bavaria, is in charge its collective bargaining policy and represents it visà-vis the Bavarian State Government.

Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Sophie Wolfrum (2010–2011) Professor at the TUM’s Chair for Urban Design and Regional Planning from 2003 to 2018. Due to her expertise in urbanism and urban planning, she has been appointed to serve as a scientific advisor on various expert commissions by federal and state governments, municipalities and foundations.

The Oskar von Miller Forum is an independent educational establishment sponsored by the Bavarian construction industry, including the Bayerischer Bauindustrieverband e.V. (Bavarian construction industry association), Verband baugewerblicher Unternehmer Bayerns e.V. (association of Bavarian building enterprises), Verband der Zimmerer- und Holzbauunternehmer in Bayern e.V. (association of carpenters and timber construction contractors in Bavaria), and the trade union IG Bauen-AgrarUmwelt.

As an international and interdisciplinary forum, the Oskar von Miller Forum supports the education of students in the fields of architecture, civil engineering and environmental engineering and students of Munich’s technical college for construction engineering (Städtische Fachschule für Bautechnik). Students can apply for accommodation and receive funding through a programme scholarship.
